I drove my mother-in-law to Dana Farber in Boston today for a second opinion on her course of treatment for her breast cancer. It's a long drive (3 hrs. each way), and I knew it would be an extremely long day, so last night I made a list of my outfit requirements:
1. Nothing fussy
2. Shoes, not sandals, as hospitals tend to be cold
3. It should look good with/without a jacket
So I reverted back to an old tried and true outfit formula - black pants, white top, denim jacket, leopard or other print somewhere. I didn't care for the ankle pants without heels, so I cuffed up the pants and I thought that looked better. I wore my leopard print flats, a brown and black beaded shell statement necklace, white short sleeved blouse to deal with the hot outside weather, and denim jacket for indoor a/c.
The original inspiration for this outfit came from blogger Jessica Quirk (photo 3). I have worn variations of this outfit (different print scarf, gray Chuck Taylor's on my feet, black Levi's 505 jeans, black maxi skirt) on work days, running errands, and even on long plane rides, and I've always been comfy and fuss-free.
The denim jacket is from American Eagle, it was one of Angie's picks a while back and it has been an absolute favorite of mine - I love the fit (extra long sleeves!) and quality of the denim.
Do you have a tried and true outfit formula?
