Only 30 cardigans? I refuse to count mine, but there are certainly more than 30! Cardigans and I have a long-standing relationship further enabled by my best friend with amazing thrifting skills.
I like your idea of a monthly goal -- I already had some things on my mind so they can be my October goals.
1. Spend some time thinking about what the gaps are in my closet. I know I need pants, but don't know where to find ones I like. I've been avoiding this problem all Spring and Summer by living in skirts, but Winter is coming! I also have some orphan items that lack the right top or bottom -- they're getting overlooked right now. I need to figure out what would make them work and put it on a list. Or remove these items from my closet because it is kind of crowded in there.
2. Think about how to break out of the daily "uniform" rut. For me, that's a full skirt and cardigan with camisole underneath. Easy to wear, easy to buy because these items are not hard to fit for my body type. It's a good look for me (possibly the best, even) but I should try to find more than one look for myself.
Shoes are the one thing I *don't* need -- I've recently revamped my shoe collection because my feet have grown a size. Silly that it took me a while to figure out why shoes had become so miserable when I used to love them so! But now that I know my true size I've been busy rekindling the love affair ... Anyhow, that may be another place to find inspiration: take all these nice new shoes and think about building outfits around them.
So anyhow, I need to do some thinking before I shop ... not my usual M.O., but then that's how I got to this point!
MuseumGal, good luck with your dissertation-writing. I'm sure it's stressful, but what a milestone to be able to claim!
