I am OBSESSED with sneakers. I am only just discovering HOW cool yet comfortable they are with skirts and dresses.

I am a late adopter of trends and bought my first pair of slip on sneakers earlier this year. When I found out I could pair them with almost anything and that they suit my personality plus lifestyle more than any other kind of footwear, I quickly bought a few more pairs.

I really LOVE how comfortable they are. I've been having foot problems since 2015 and sneakers ensure I can enjoy my day without any aches & pains. Plus I have been looking for inspiration to style them with my classic wardrobe, and I simply love these ideas.

I'd love any other ideas/images you have. Thanks!

So glad you have found a footwear option that really works! I love how these look.

I tend to wear my sneakers with shorts or jeans rather than skirts, simply because I wear mostly midi skirts and I think on someone with my rather short legs they look better with a shorter skirt (as in the examples). I don't have any inspirational images, I'm afraid.

What type of sneaker capsule did you buy? (e.g. colours etc.)

I am with you! I first got a pair of leather white tennis shoes and found I almost exclusively wore them for the whole summer, and that it made me wear more skirts and dresses too!

Then I got a silver pair to wear into the Fall, and also used them quite extensively.

Both buys completely justified their price, as they have had such a high CPW ratio.

Suz, I also have short legs! I encourage you to try higher end makes of flat tennis shoes, something in their vamp or opening (lower? Curvier shape?) makes them flattering nevertheless, and they are so comfortable.

As if I weren't obsessed with Pinterest enough, now you've got me on Trini G. - also her website and Insta feed. I'm way past mini-skirt age and interest, but I really like sneakers with the right knee length or longer skirt or dress. I have a good selection of leather sneaks, and would like add some in a colour in a more traditional sneaker style (like a NB or Nike) for fashion wear. Best look ever !

Suz - speaking of midi-skirts and sneakers, this Trini G young woman rocks it!

I agree with Krishni. I'm short too, Suz. I'm just 5'3"; but I do agree that sneakers look better with shorter hemlines.

I think low-top sneakers work best. Slip on sneakers are perfect too.

I have:
1) black canvas slip ons
2) leopard print slip ons
3) olive green slip ons
4) denim finish canvas sneakers
5) black leather low top sneakers

These are just the casuals but I do have other chunkier sneakers too. And Sketchers.

Now I really want a pair of Snakeprint slip-on sneakers.

I've seen a lot of bloggers wear midis and sneakers. I can't say I LOVE all of the looks, but #1&2 inspire me. I may wear black leather sneakers with #1 though.

Lisa - I think your gear-inspired summer dresses beg to be paired with sneakers!

I guess I'm a really late adopter. I just bought two pairs of lace-up sneakers for the first time ever as far as I can recall. (Not counting running shoes) The grey canvas ones have not arrived yet although I ordered and returned them in tan earlier so I know how they look and fit. Today I found some white leather ones at a pretty low price point and grabbed them. Will stick to these two until I see how it goes but I'm loving the look of the slip on ones too.

Another who does not wear sneakers much with skirts or dresses because I will not wear hems above my knees anymore and sneakers are just not as good with knee scrapers. I also tend to wear skirts with slim silhouettes because a wider skirt makes my legs look too thin. I've not tried slip on sneakers though. That might work.

I HIGHLY recommend slip-on sneaker, Joy. I know you don't wear heels much. I find slip on sneakers easier to pair with fitted skirts....definitely worth a try?

Chris - better late than never! Now that I wear sneakers with everything, I KNOW WHAT I HAVE BEEN MISSING.

I'll follow this post. I love sneaks with skirts and dresses too. It was my go to style in the '90s and I'm embracing it now. It's so easy with MOTG outfits and I change into dressier shoes when I'm at the office.

I hear you, Maneera. There are so many fun sneakers these days, and so many great looks with sneakers. Glad to hear they are helping with the foot problems too!
I've been collecting "sneaker outfits" on Pinterest, there are several with skirts and dresses too;-)

So am ! I bought my first pair of slip on sneakers yesterday! That's how new I am to the trend. I hope it continues because I find them so comfortable.

I bought them as an alternative to flip flops (or jandals as we call them) and don't think running shoes look good with clothes other than gear. I was admiring a friend wearing them with her mini dress. I have some converse but they are nowhere near as comfortable as those slip on sneakers.

I wore them for about 5 hours walking around today all over the place and they were so comfortable....I think I need to buy some more...pity its winter over here soon. I need winter ideas for sneakers. I'm always late to catch on to a new look. Here's my sneakers with the ponte pants I got today.

I have got quite long legs but I'm nearly 45 so I'm not going to wear a mini dress. Do you think you could wear them with tights in winter?

Me too!!!!! I've taken to wearing them with skirts (knee length) and I think I look great. My friends, who do not know what a YLF is, are appalled. I've tuned a deaf ear.

Oh, thanks for those visuals, Maneera! I like your sneaker capsule a lot. I have trouble keeping slip-ons on my feet, alas, but after you wouldn't believe how much searching and trying on, I *did* finally find a leopard pair that stay on me last year. (I had to size down.) I really enjoy them!

And I like some of your examples of midis with sneakers. I realize that in fact I do wear sneakers with midis, and more crazily -- high tops!! But my high tops have a wee wedge which makes all the difference (in my imagination, at least, LOL) and also in comfort for my particular feet. Most flat sneakers don't provide enough for me.

But...I think Krish is onto something! I also have a nice silver summer pair of sneakers -- even they are a bit low on the support side, so not really all day shoes for me -- yet overall very comfy, and easier to wear with skirts. Joy has the same ones I believe.

And this has inspired me to go out and search for a few more pair. I like the idea of white and silver lace ups like Krish's.

I would love to wear lace-up sneakers with skirts for a sporty-casual vibe, but I always feel like it skews dowdy on me, rather than fashion-forward? Maybe because I don't look good in short skirts and it's trickier with midi lengths. Skirts are hard for me anyway, so maybe adding "sensible" footwear is just making an already problematic item even more challenging.

Sally, for fall/winter maybe consider dark leather ones. That's what I was thinking although I don't want to get ahead of myself; spring has just barely arrived here. I have some black Clark "walking shoes" that are really leather sneakers with black soles. They are a little more of a sporty style (like a hiking shoe "lite") and I only wear them when I'm on a trip somewhere where I'll be doing a lot of walking and want to bring only one or two pairs of shoes.

There seem to be a huge number of sneaker options out there in lots of colors and styles!

Me too! And great inspiration pics! Sneakers with a skirt or dress is great since I am not really into heels at all, and it "de-bombshells" a shorter hemline nicely. Right now I've got a silver pair of slip-ons from last summer, a pair of yellow vans, and charcoal Sperries (not boat shoes)...I really want a pair of white sneakers for summer. I'm on the look out!

Sneakers and sandals are the only way to go in the warmer months, but sneakers go all year around. There are so many kinds and styles you can easily a few pairs in your wardrobe will take you everywhere, and they are fun.

I have white Cons, black leather high top Cons, and olive green Jack Purcells. I don't have any slip ons. Do Toms count?

I was wearing my Jack Purcells are the library walk up window and a 20 something guy complimented me on my shoes. I was pretty sure that had never happened before!

I feel a bit like Janet - I do wear slip on sneakers and my hiking sneakers are required gear for me, but I've not had the best luck finding more traditional lace up sneakers that don't feel dowdy to me. I recently tried a navy pair of NB and they were just awful (to me). I think it's partly because I dress so casually that I feel I need slightly more stylish shoes to stay looking pulled together. And I don't wear skirts and dresses but do wear shorts quite a lot.

I got Michael Kors Olivia sneakers last year in white, a purchase 100% due to YLF, thanks, you all. I did have to add in my "dress shoe" arch supports, but they work REALLY well for me, and I've gotten a lot of use out of them.

Chris987, that shirt, alas, is an older Zara item from several summers ago. But you never know...you might find it on ebay or something. Or they might make something similar this year.

And thank you for the lovely compliments! It has been a very useful item on very hot days as it is extremely loose and boxy.

@ Sally - you look great! I have a very similar striped top and black sneakers that I wear in a very similar way too. Of course I think you look fab! I have worn slip on sneakers in winters with a skirt and thick tights (the kinds that have socks attached) and it looked real good. If you want inspiration on how to wear leggings and sneakers, I suggest you take a look at forum member Ginger's WIWs. She wears leggings with sneakers with panache!

@ Sterling - I so agree with you! I'm sure YLF pairing sneakers with your skirts. You go girl!

@ Suz - I remember those outfits you wore last summer. In fact, your leopard print sneakers kinda stuck in my head and I bought myself a pair too this year Glad you like some of those looks...your high top wedge sneakers look AMAZING!

@Janet - I know just what you mean. I'm curvy too... And short....but I'm definitely going to experiment around with pieces in my wardrobe to see if I can make the look work. Infact, I'm still DROOLING over your new Nike sneakers. I really want those babies!

@ Ledonna - sneakers do go with EVERYTHING! In fact, the first time I wore sneakers with a skirt that looked traditionally better with heels, I felt kinda 'badass'. I was more comfortable but I felt insanely 'cooler'.

My favorites from this season are Photo #1, the Ecco Chase II Tie, in the "Moon Rock" color.

My favorites from last sneaker season are Photo #2. Those look more like wingtips but they're sneaker sole and Nike technology.
