The Strand Theatre, in Marietta, GA, is a historic theatre, that recently turned 86, and , in the tradition of both theatre spaces, and lovely antique buildings, it’s a money sink. Several times a year (with time off during the pandemic), we do a fundraiser called “The Strand Ol’ Op’ry” to help raise funds. It’s a musical review of bluegrass and country.
This show, we did the songs from the film “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” I sang “In The Jailhouse Now”, and when I got the song, I knew I wanted an outfit reminiscent of the Great Depression. But I didn’t want to spend a bunch of money, especially for a volunteer gig.
I used Ralph Lauren for inspiration. I thrifted a pair of Free People A-line Overalls, a vintage Tommy Hillfiger blouse, and an oversized Benetton blazer. I wore it with a hat I bought at a Rennaissance festival several years ago. I wore character shoes for the show.
It was a fun and goofy outfit, for a fun and goofy show! My original plan was to list the overalls on Poshmark, but they were so much fun to wear, I’m keeping them for (fingers crossed!) future country & bluegrass gigs!
