NYE outfit - I'm sure I can do better

Hi there
So, this is what I wore out to New Years, and I think the jacket & boots would be a good start for an outfit, but I definitely need some help filling out the rest.

Anyone willing to offer some advice/suggestions on how to turn a couple of nice pieces into an awesome outfit?

Hi KW. I agree that the black jacket and boots could be the basis of a great outfit. The key is to find a bottom that is either slim enough to tuck into the boots and maintain the sleek look or wide enough to wear over the boots. I would lean towards wide enough to wear over but I am into the wider legs these days and am assuming outside whether isn't a a factor. I like bit of a dark subtle metallic with an all black outfit so perhaps a lightweight knit is a bronze or pewter metallic would work.

Well, in this case my black jeans were *just* slim enough to fit the boots over (and I do mean just).
Weather.. isn't likely to be a huge factor since if it's cool enough for me to wear the jacket then any long pants/top should be fine, but by the same token it would need to be freezing for it to be too cold for a skirt for me.

I had been half thinking of a black top and coloured skirt (or vice-versa), I must admit that bronze or metallic hadn't even entered my mind.
When you say 'lightweight knit', can you give me an idea of what you mean? I'm.. rather clueless at most fashion terminology

Welcome, Kittenwolf! I agree with Dianthus that skinnier-legged pants would work well tucked into these boots. A skirt would also work well. I think a ruched pencil skirt would look great with the boots and the long jacket. (Ruching is just horizontal gathering--i.e., the garment is gathered along vertical seams rather than across a horizontal seam, as in a gathered-waist skirt.) Something like the one I'm showing below, perhaps. And a silky blouse or tee would pair nicely with the leather jacket too.

I tend to prefer leggings or tights with my tall boots because I feel more streamlined. I will do jeans, but feel less put together when they bag out at the knees.

A solid top or sweater would up the dressiness compared to a graphic tee. Anything with a little sparkle or shine to it is great at the holidays, and your coat would keep it from looking too over the top, if that's a concern. Then again, most of my social group is super casual so the minions would fit right in.

I hadn't thought of adding a shiny top to it, I can see that breaking up the solid black quite awesomely!

Maybe I should finally get some shiny leggings from Living Dead clothing.

Any thoughts on accessories/jewelry?

I really like the choker or necklace you're wearing. And the small stud earrings, too. What I like about these pieces is that they complement the boots and jacket very nicely and subtly. Depending on the other changes you make to the outfit, you might not feel the need to wear anything bolder, fancier, or whatever.

I'd like to see a metallic tee on top for the holidays. Other ideas would be a sheer black top over a black tank or a black lace shirt. If you don't want so much black, how about navy?
