Nude hose - In or Out?

Angie's comment on Diana's thread a few days ago stuck with me:

"Nude hose make the outfit."

Mr. O once said if you stick to what you like eventually your thing will come back in fashion. I never considered giving up on them simply because in some cases/outfits they are the only way to keep warm.

So, what is the verdict now - are they [finally (back)] In??

I need to get some -- I think it looks fine, and I agree, it's the only way to keep warm yet look bare-legged.

I don't really like wearing nude hose, but agree there are some moments when you cannot do without. Then, I'm super fussy about my nude hose, like to be invisible, so use quite a low denier(10-15DEN) which is very delicate:-( so of a short live. Sometimes I like better a pair of very very subtle grey instead. Depends on the outfit.

I'm wearing them this weekend at my MIL's. It's still too chilly to go bare legged and I have a feeling she wouldn't be crazy about my nude fishnets.

We had nylon stockings when I was a little girl, but tights weren't born until sometime in the 1950's. I like how they make me feel polished and neat. They've come a long way since the 50's. In/out, whatever, this old woman likes them

Well, I've always worn them. The thing is that a lot of outfits look best with bare legs (no colors or textures), and when it's this cold out, hose and tights are essential.

In that outfit, I was actually wearing nude opaque tights (I think they are actually dance tights) because it was too cold for sheer hose. They are surprisingly useful.

ETA: My #1 choice is always bare legs. So much more comfy. But nude hose/tights are a good cold weather alternative!

I say "in"! As long as you can match them very close to your own skin tone, I think it's a very refined look. (I think Angie is wearing them in this week's outfit post, and she also wore them to the wedding in Japan last year - two super looks, if you ask me;-)

I hope they are in as I would love to start wearing them once I'm out of thick winter tights. I think they make your legs look beautiful and smooth.

I agree with Inge. The trick is finding some close to your skin tone. Not always easy. But I wear them and wore them in England last week one day (the warmest day). I actually had a pair that were slightly textured, but not fishnet (with the holes) and they were quite a lot of fun!

Definitely back in as long as they don't look obvious - as others have said, matching your skin tone is key IMO.

I agree that nude hose are never really out. Some times a bare leg is simply inappropriate, and when a woman has to go to work lookin put together a nice sheer hose is part of the outfit.

Match your skin tone as close as possible and you are good to go. I'm loving my nude micro fishnets right now!

I love them, but here in So Cal they definitely read "old lady," and I am close enough in age to being an actual old lady that I forego them. I substitute nude fishnets when I feel like I just can't do bare legs. But I need sheer nude hose to be much more mainstream before I will feel comfortable wearing them regularly.

Oooh, I can't wait Angie! I'll be on the road around the time blog posts are normally published and you can be sure that I will log in asap at my destination. Goodness me, to even think that by one strike of your pen, or click of your keyboard, I may be trendy is beyond me.

Or even ahead of the game, if Mr. O is to be listened to. This way someone is always ahead of the game

I look forward to Angie's post as I am usually late to any trend lol. I'm with Mary K here in SoCal. I rarely wear hose, other than socks, and when I do it is obvious by colour or texture or opacity, not one that attempts to look like my skin.

Im only a fan of the nude hose on certain occasions....but I adore a sheer hose anytime. I always have a good pair of navy and blue sheer hose. But hey, if you love the nude hose and it makes you comfortable rock it out!

I remember when Princess Diana failed to wear hose to an event in Washington, DC. It was considered scandalous, unthinkable. Her press agent had to release a statement about it. Enterprising reporters told us that in Europe women didn't always wear hose when dressing up. I always thought of that as the beginning of the no hose look here. How funny that her son's wife is pioneering wearing hose.

I never got the feeling they were "out" in Australia, and I still wear them. Sometimes my feet can't cope with wearing shoes on bare feet, and at work they are great with A/C. I'd be happy to wear nude patterned hose (other than fishnets) but don't see in around much here and ran a hole in the last pair I did have.

I have to confess I don't really get "nude hose make the outfit". I don't want my nude hose to be conspicuous!

I never understood them being "out" either -- if they are truly nude for you, and not a funky "suntan" color, then they should be more or less unnoticeable!

Maybe I'm old-fashioned for my age but I don't really feel comfortable in bare legs in a business context. It just seems a bit under-dressed, although I would probably never notice if someone else was bare-legged.
