One of the inspirations, with much better proportions, has shown up my size and for $295 - an affordable price for me. Not *cheap,* but affordable. I'd have to return a little something and probably sell a little something... but affordable.

I will keep my thoughts to myself for the moment.

Thought a little Billy Idol might set you straight. I love this! I've worn the Burberry 6 days in a row. Today was too cold, but that was unusual. I think mine would be too heavy for you - this looks much lighter. What's the filling?

It doesn't say what the filling is, and I can't seem to find another listing for this exact jacket. Based on other similar ones, I think it's probably poly.

Urgh. On the fence really, and it's not comfortable sitting here (too sharp and pointy).
Do you really need this? Do you have other jackets in your closet of similar weight and insulation properties. You do have a Zella jacket which probably has similar insulating properties.

Anna, those were pretty much exactly my reservations. This is probably warmer than the Zella, but it's still a black quilted jacket.

I think I slept on the fence... pointy and uncomfortable, indeed.

Cons:
I already have a black jacket
$$
Can't wear at work

Pros:
Now this I've had on the brain for years... zip off + Burberry + quilting
The non-classic styles are more rare and more rarely pop up in my price range
Great quality, would be able to wear a long time, resale value if needed

Any more opinions?

I like the peplum a lot. I do have poison eye for quilted jackets. So often when people put them on, they look pretty but prosaic.

This has been niggling the back of my brain all day and, even though Una voted to get it, I am going to pass based on what she said!

Before knowing this is actually a Burberry, the vote was to "save up for the real thing." And you know... thinking back on the Burberry trench threads and all the deliberation and careful thought that went into the purchase, I think all that is PART of having the Real Thing.

I may be able to nab this jacket at a great price, but even if it fits perfectly, there is no guarantee it will flatter or work with my wardrobe without trying it on. If I think that part of what I'm saving for is the privilege of choosing the perfect fit, selecting the perfect color, road testing the item in my own home, and having the option to return, then I can hold out and save up for the Real Thing. Or at least the Real Thing Outlet.

Smart decision, Rae - I think Burberry is one of those companies that has reinvented itself yet stayed true to its image, and you will always have options. It's paying for them that can be an issue...
