Not really a casual skirt but ….

My comment about not owning a single skirtwas not entirely accurate . I bought this matte “ satin “ skirt at our version of Target the other day on a whim - because about every 5 years or so I get motivated to see if I can fit into a skirt . I refuse to spend any money on something like this until I’m sure I can wear it . I hadn’t even tried it on until this morning ….Angie’s blog post made me think I might try it for work with the cashmere sweater I was already wearing ( instead of the pants I had planned ) . I actually don’t mind it , and I also don’t mind these new boots with it . They have a high enough shaft that they sit under the skirt hem nicely . Of course I forgot all about static electricity from my coat lining and by the time I arrived at work the skirt was plastered to my legs . Oops .

Anyhow , for $29 , I think I can find some occasions to wear this piece .

If I were going somewhere other than to work , I’d wear more/ different jewellery , but I’m already pushing the envelope with the skirt so I’m going pretty minimal here .

Suggestions for styling welcome !

Well, this definitely is a skirt! It is a fun all-black outfit, and the fit is very good, you can certainly wear skirts. For non-work occasions, I would add your McQ skull scarf.

This is a great silhouette for you. You could also try the skirt with burgundy or grey.

I’ll definitely add the scarf when I’m wearing this “ out” somewhere . I haven’t looked at it on myself closely enough to determine if there is any visible belly pooching going on , but if not , I might go for the leather jacket / tshirt combo next . Note to self to pick up some control top tights soon .

Is the ‘satin’ like a slip dress/slip skirt? I’m looking for something like that myself! I LOVE this whole outfit. The boots are fun/fabulous. Are they all day/walking type footwear?

You can use the skirt as a base for holiday outfits, and wear the heck out of it before you tire of it. On the other hand it could become a dressy capsule piece that crosses over to work occasions. Very useful item!

I like this Lisa and think this is a good way to trial a skirt.

I always like a low contrast top and bottom, it makes proportions easy. You could trial with sneakers or boots of a different colour for outside work.

I do not tuck so this looks fab to me. Very current/modern. I’d wear this in a heartbeat, partly because I would feel most comfortable in the dark colors…I would be more hesitant in lighter colors because I would feel self-conscious, unless there was a third piece. But that’s me.

Love! You can absolutely wear a skirt as well as anyone. I like the idea of dressing my similar skirt down with a graphic tee and lug sole boots — I need to try that out.

Lots of love here for this skirt trial! I’m assuming it’s a bias cut, so that’s a perfect style for you ( does me no favours). Such a great versatile piece....paired with white sneakers, combat boots or Birkenstock’s and a crossbody bag and good to go.

If you feel bold enough to branch out into more skirts... Joe Fresh has a knife pleat midi skirt in olive. I chased it down because it reminds me of my navy one from Uniqlo, which is a real workhorse. But they don't have it in black, just dark olive. So I immediately thought of you.

The Pinterest outfits I've pinned pair pleated midis with belted fine-gauge sweaters and heels. I of course am more likely to wear a long or chunky sweater and clunkyish footwear. Like your look.

It looks great. I think I know what you mean by matte satin. I guess you could dress it up or down easily as a more chunky jumper (or sweatshirt) would make it more casual and a slinky tank would make it more dressy. I sometimes do the tucked shirt and jacket look and you could definitely pull it off. The other day was so hot though, that I got an oversized tank and twisted the bottom and made a knot with an elastic that couldn't be seen so it looked asymmetrical and more fitted but not tucked.
I think this is a good way to trial a style. I had no skirts in my cupboard apart from a knit tube skirt. Now I'm converted. I would say play around with it as others suggested.

L’Abielle - I did see that olive pleated skirt , but that’s too far outside my comfort zone . Pleats on me are not good- like really bad .

Iozz oz -yes , it’s a bias cut which fortunately does work for me . Forgot how much I love a good bias cut anything It keeps the silhouette slim and slightly curvy which is how I imagine I look - hahaha. One can dream

Carla - YES - a nice thick matte satin weave poly . Nice drape and lovely hand . The price can’t be beat . And yes , too , to the boots being all- day walkable . They are a funny shaft height though . Not a full tall boot , but more like a 7/8 height if that makes sense . I have to admit they were a complete impulse buy but they worked so well under the jeans I was wearing when I tried them on that I decided to go for it . They are somewhat a throwback style for me and not my usual , but I’m trying to be realistic about my lifestyle needs . My BFF who is the Olukai rep is also the rep for Taos , so I was happy to support both her and the retailer . My husband did cast a side eye to them the other day but I ignored him . He’s acting up lately .

Suz - yes! Your blue ones ? I’m still surprised at myself for buying them , and the only reason I gave them a second glance at the store was because of the mid shaft height . They slide underneath slim pants and jeans without adding extra bulk and are just high enough to work with a dress or now , this skirt . I took a 38 which is a size down from what I usually wear in Euro sizes . They are so nicely roomy in the toe box which is much better for foot health . Worth the $$ .

Well, I have never been able to wear a bias cut skirt. And here you are rocking the hardest cut to wear. So no more of this “I can’t wear skirts”!

Perfection! I love these kind of skirts but can only wear them when it’s warm enough for bare legs. How do you wear tights underneath and not get static cling? Please share. Love these boots on you—I had them and returned as the ones I had squeaked like you wouldn’t believe. Wear this often!! YLF!

This is possibly one of my fave outfits that you've posted . The silhouette is fantastic on you. I have several skirts but none are quite the right length and get hooked up on the tops of my boots. I need to go longer. Enjoy your skirt and go buy it in another color !
