Hi there,

I saw an article online this morning about 'normcore', which I had never heard of until today (I then scanned a number of other articles to get more of the idea of it). Basically in this article, it talks about the shift from trying to 'stand out' to trying to be more 'part of the group', I guess in reaction to how individualistic society is (caveat: this post should in no way be construed as critical to those who use fashion as a form of self-expression of individuality - express on if it's you!).

The article notes that in some circles it's become code for dressing 90's retro, since there is nothing normal (these days) about wearing bright white sneaks and mom jeans as a fashion statement. But the core of the idea - just embracing normal-ness - intrigues me.

It makes me think about my own style, which tends toward the very understated, as well as many comments and themes on this forum lately that speak to the same feeling - e.g. Angie's audience post, and comments around dressing to fit in with the season, with the environment, dressing with appropriateness in mind, etc. I admit I enjoy the affirmation that maybe trying to blend in might be an expression of confidence for a certain type of person, rather than the reverse.

I find it very thought-provoking and wonder what anyone thinks about this 'trend' (anti-trend?) Love to hear your thoughts and comments!
