New top. Hmm

I wore this top for the first time today , though I bought it last (Australian) summer.
Wasn't feeling sure about the baring of skin though I thought OK when wearing.
On seeing the photos I think it might be downright unflattering, emphasing my small bust/comparatively wide ribcage combo.
The shorts are mid rise, and maybe the tops would look better on my high rise jeans.(I don't own and couldn't find high rise shorts)
I wore the cardi because of supermarket air-conditioning
Thoughts and suggestions welcome

I like the top best with the cardinals in #2. It emphasizes your small waist.

I tend to agree, Joy, although in an Australian context, the cardi will be too hot a lot of times, so it's rather limiting.

I like it with the buttoned cardigan, but the length + the underbust seam bugs me. It gives it sort of a 50/50 ratio.

I agree with Suntiger. I would like it better if it were longer, not a fan of the 50/50 ratio either. FWIW it looks nice on you. I had some tops similar although longer and gosh they were unflattering on me. I looked pregnant, not such a good look at 56 :). You, OTOH, look slim.

Actually the blousy bust and nipped underbust are very flattering, might be even better with higher rise pants or a skirt.

It’s a cute top! I think it would look best with higher waisted and looser / bf style shorts so there is no little “ skin sandwich “ between the hem of the top and the waistband of the shorts

I think this top looks good on you. It’s a bit short but as others suggested, will work best with high waisted bottoms.

I think it's just the nature of the style, after all it flares out a bit from under the gathered seam rather than being fitted. It does read very casual to me, to be thrown on for a hot day, rather than something I would style with a cardi (edit, sorry I see now that the cardi was a practical choice, not necessarily a styling). Maybe with a long, loose, equally summery skirt, if you have one?

I think you look great in it. You have toned arms and shoulders and are in great shape. The top is adorable. It would look good with high-waisted, wide-legged pants.

It’s a cute too but does look short on you. I think I prefer it as a layering piece, but I seem to be in the minority.

I love it without the cardi. I thin it works reasonably well with the cardi open too, just not quite as good with the buttoned cardi. Also, I feel like it could be a winner with a skirt too. I wonder if a slightly longer cardi may work too? Or even a light denim jacket. Not sure but could be worth a try.

I think ideally the top would be either a tiny bit longer or come up slightly higher at the top (your figure is beautiful and can easily carry it off, I just mean purely in terms of the shape/proportions of the garment) , however in our Australian beach/summer culture I think you can absolutely get away with it being a “teeny top”.

It’s a cute top on you but to me it seems a smidge short, or perhaps a higher waist on the short is needed to close the gap. The cardigan open looks better than buttoned up. You might also try a short-sleeved button down blouse left open over it too.

I think most of you are on the same page as me thinking that the proportions are a little out and would be better with a higher waisted bottom. Which in my case means wearing with jeans as, perhaps due to my long torso, it's really hard to find high waisted shorts that fit me (also, because of my fuller thighs, I don't go for either baggy looks (they bunch between my legs) or short ones.

I do have some longer tops I can wear with these denim shorts so it's all good,

I'm with Jussie and JenniNZ, you have a great figure and look lovely in this top - which is cool and breezy for a hot summer's day. With our weather and casual beachy lifestyle, it is totally appropriate to show a bit of skin in the summer.

Maybe create shorts by shortening a high waisted pair of pants?

Thanks Jenni, I did think it looked good when I was wearing it! But on seeing the photo I was drawn to the horizontal lines on the rib cage. I do wonder if the angle my daughter took the photo might have affected it too.

Barbara Diane, the thought of shortening pants occurred to me too. I am not sure I really need another pair of shorts, but if I do come across some ultra high waist pants cheaply I might consider it (I need ultra high for my long torso to have a true waist high)
