It's lovely to have the resident photographer home to snap an outdoor pic on Canada Day!

I spent a few weeks in Italy with a dear friend whose style is polar opposite to mine. DF is all about softness, femininity and subtle sensuality. I am more crisp, androgynous, and hard edged. DF's body type is far more lush than mine, and it was fascinating to see how the same garment could look completely different on both of us.

I came away from that trip with a desire to incorporate some softness into my style and maybe pull back a wee bit from the pronouced androgyneity that marks my style.

So today I am debuting a pleated polka dot skirt that I purchased in Milan. This skirt is indeed as comfortable as wearing shorts, and I think it may get a lot of wear. Does it work? Would greatly appreciate any styling tips in terms of tops and footwear!

What a great skirt! I love how you styled it here. I think long, close-fitting black top would be great with it as well. I'd try it with a black sandal with a heel.

Oh, I love that skirt, and I love it on you! You have styled it well, and I really love those shoes with it. I think what I might try next is more softness up above. A fluid tee might be too soft for you, but how about a woven silk tee?

Anyway I think the skirt is brilliant, (planning a trip to Milan.... :-; )

Beautiful skirt and it looks gorgeous on!

I like it with the top you are wearing.

A little later (when it cools down) it will look lovely with the right welted knit top.

It might also pair well with a moto type jacket or a boxy, angular jacket like the one Angie got from Zara.

I might try it with a sleeveless turtleneck, if you have such a thing. (Strangely enough, I do).

You can also top with a cropped denim jacket.

I'd love to see it with colour also. Cobalt, cranberry, berry....citron, if that works for you? You do wear it, I know....

I have a bit of fascination with the hard/soft dichotomy in terms of fashion and body type, as well as how those variables intersect or impact style choices. Sometimes what I gravitate to isn't in full harmony with my body type. That can be a refreshing juxtaposition or a nuisance, depending... It is also where YLFers often use their fashion skills, creativity and talent to maximum advantage. Apologies for the barely formulated ramblings. Like Suz's additional styling ideas.

Great suggestion Zibbets - I've tried it with a black cami, and I like the effect. Alas, no black sandals, but perhaps that's a wardrobe hole needing filling

Brilliant suggestions Suz! The tops I have in citron and cobalt do not work well (to my eye), but I'm thinking that just might mean another shopping opportunity, and heaven knows we could all use more of those :-). Despite the rather flimsy material of the skirt, I think it could transition to fall, so will definitely use your jacket ideas.
