New Inspirations Using YLF's Outfit Generator!

Recently I posted about wanting to get more wear out of my current wardrobe, so I thought maybe I should find some different ways to combine wearing my clothes. Since I had inputted some of my clothing items into the YLF "Finds", I thought it would be fun to see what kind of combinations the "Outfit Generator" would come up with using my own wardrobe.

There were of course some odd results due to the way the system works but there were also plenty of good combinations for me to try as well. Here are a few of the options it gave me:

Photo 1-2: Pink/Navy Option:
Photo 1: The outfit generator's suggestion and photo 2 is me wearing it. Its a nice casual dressy option. I do like pink and navy together but for some reason I usually just wore this polka-dot top with my white jeans.

Photo 3-4: Jeans/Sneaker Option
This is a practical everyday option for grocery shopping etc... Again, I always just wore this slightly oversized striped shirt in summer, usually opened over a tee, it never crossed over seasons.

Photo 5-6: White/Faded Denim Option:
I don't think I'd have put this all together myself, even though it seems an obvious combo now. I do like its casual urban vibe. And that's my urban casual pose too, lol.

Photo 7- 8: Denim/Swoosh Skirt Option
When this option popped up I knew I had to try it. The denim jacket, geometric print top and skirt I think go really well together. I can just change out the footwear for cooler weather.

Photo 9- 10: Ditsy/Black Bootcuts Option
This is definitely something I'm comfortable wearing, totally my persona. I always enjoy a printed base layer to add some interest to an outfit.

Photo: 11-12 Cobalt/Charcoal Coat Option
I wasn't sure how I wanted to wear this newer charcoal cloth coat but I like the pop of cobalt with it and decided to cuffed the jeans just to update the look.

Photo 13- 14: Skirt/ Stompy Boots Option
Well there's no way I would have thought of this but its kinda cute and a bit edgy too but I'm not sure if I'd actually ever wear it IRL but never say never.

I knew I had a fairly cohesive mix and match wardrobe but somehow I had fallen into a habit of wearing my clothes often in the same similar manner and for some reason I lost my creative mojo to see other possibities. It was a fun experiment and I'm actually quite happy to add most of these new combos into my rotation. It got me excited about my own clothes again and since this is my actual wardrobe, it does feel authentic to me.

Do you get stuck wearing your clothes in the same old way? Have you ever tried the outfit generator?

Impressive! I especially like 6, 8 and 14 - maybe because they are a tiny bit unexpected. Great experiment and excellent results!

The fact the Random Outfit Generator works for you reveals how much of a mix-and-match wardrobe you have!

ROG was originally an Angie April Fools post - https://youlookfab.com/2015/04.....generator/ but after Joy used it to create some cool outfits, I decided to give it a whirl! Even now, 8 years later, I’ll use ROG from time to time to shake things up - much the way you did!

Dee, this is brilliant! And wow, you made some fantastic outfits with the generator. I especially love 7/8 but they're all great and how terrific that they are combos you might not otherwise have tried.

As Carla says, Joy had some great fun wth this a while back.

It's a fun feature! I haven't used it much lately but i should give it a try again!

This is a really fun exercise. As you say, it proves how cohesive your wardrobe is. I think mixing and matching is the best part of fashion.

The hot pink and navy selection is really good on you. I like all except maybe the last one.
I al looking for a light crossbody and all yours look interesting, and not too large. May I ask what brands?

Runcarla - Haha, I had no idea the outfit generator was originally an April Fools post, that’s hilarious. I mean you do get some pretty wild suggestions but the fact that I could jig it a bit (I put cardigans in the jacket category to get them to be toppers) and get some new wearable combos proves it worth to me.
Irina - I do like #14 actually, but it just feels a bit too young styled this way, maybe its too cutesy harajuku for myself, I doubt I’d comfortable wearing it out in my suburban environment..
Suz - You should give it a try too, you have a great mix and match wardrobe

Star- I agree it is like playing paper dolls with your clothes, a fun option to shop my own closet.

#8 is KILLER and steals the show! Elegant, pretty, and fashionably classic. YOU need to wear fun skirts more often

#2 and #4 are more standouts. You wear that cool mid-tone blue very well! Love you in wide pants and jeans!

(To answer your questions: Yes. I've tried the generator since we invented it So far, I don't get stuck with wearing my clothes a certain way. I have lots of options, mix and match, and milk it! I also enjoy repeating outfits).

Fun! I love 1/2 3/4 and 7/8 but I think they all work.

It is good to try new combinations. I haven’t tried the ROG for a while - I might have to play around.

The Outfit Generator is a wonderful way of making new clothing combinations. It is about time to use it again for fall inspiration. I discovered navy and pink this way and now own two navy and pink summer blouses that allow me to wear navy in the summer. It is with a try and is very creative. Some of my navy and pink outfits featured pink slippers! I just subbed in a similar style of pink loafers. Pink is not a good color on me.

Joy- I had heard that you found some great combos to try using the ROG. I love pink and navy together.

And actually all these look really great-isn't it-but I understand the hesitation for the last one-and now curious about your own version instead-so how do you style that skirt true to yourself?

Lyn67- I really only wear this skirt in summer with a cute top like this red one, beige sandals and matching crossbody.

Thanks for all your positive feedback on this fun experiment. Looks like #8 is the favourite, I love it too.

Zaeobi - I prefer wearing flat sandals with the #14 skirt due to its length and the lightness of the denim fabric. See my response to lyn67 for a typical combo for this skirt.

DonnaF - see link Zaeobi provided I was able to access ROG using the “Finds” feature on my ipad. You may have to change the settings to access on a phone.

So many pretty outfits! I particularly like #8 and #14. I like you in a skirt. When I decided to try the Outfit Generator time ago, to make things fast I picked from Everybody's Finds some clothes that are similar to mine (instead of loading my own clothes - too fussy for me ) and "played" a few times. The results have been sometimes seasonally confused but interesting. Now you make me want to try again.

What a fun way to play with your closet! I do get stuck with certain combos, especially for work when I just need to get something picked out and move on. I don't have enough of my clothes entered here to use the generator but it looks like fun.

Sisi - I inputted mostly my current stuff into it, not my entire wardrobe, but it certainly does produce some seasonally confused options. It took a number of generates to get some wearable combos, and as I had mentioned, I had to label my cardigans under jackets for some more topper options to mix my items with.
