New haircut...weird highlights. Not happy.

I tried someone new for my hair cut and highlights yesterday because my usual stylist was busy. Bad idea. I just didn't connect with the lady at all in terms of how to do my hair. It turned out like a bad mom bob and waaaay shorter than I intended. I've been trying to grow my hair how since last summer and bam 5 months of growth gone in one snip. I've fussed and fussed with it, to try to "de-frump" it. It's "ok" now, I think, but still too "cutesy" for my taste. I'm thinking about going back in and getting my regular stylist to edge it up a bit, but I hate to remove more length.
She did an awful job on my high lights too. I have there blonde streaks in the back, see picture 2 and very little highlighting in the front. Plus...she didn't put extra color around my face to cover my grayest patches. What do you guys think? Should I have them do something with the highlights too?
I'm sorry to be such a downer. I feel awful...got the flu and my 1 year has the flu too. I know that has a lot to do with it, but I'm so disappointed.

Hi Cilleena --

First, if this is how you look with the flu/taking care of a sick child something must be right with the color in the front!

Sorry you are dealing with nasty bugs + a bad experience.

I wouldn't hesitate to call the salon and tell them you are unhappy and want to come in for a fix; maybe even send a better photo of the back because it does look like something is up with the color there.

Cuts are such a personal thing; I don't think this looks bad on you at all but if it isn't doing what you want in a few days then it's better to go a little shorter than live with something you dislike!

Hopefully your regular stylist can touch it up a little more to your liking. Honestly you are lucky that your pretty face will outshine any suboptimal haircut.

I don't think it looks bad at all. You have the loveliest face and this shows off your features well. However, if you're unhappy, you should definitely let the salon know and they should make it right.

Hope the little ones are better soon.

chiming in to agree w/ what chewyspaghetti said about using a flat iron. Using a flat iron can definitely add more "edge" to a bob... the downside is that it adds a bit of time to your usual styling routine

Maybe you could call your salon and ask to speak to your reg. stylist and explain that you would like to come in and get it fixed by her??

Is it me or are the highlights a little uneven?

Could someone please tell me what "Mom" hair is? I want to make sure I don't have it! (even tho I AM a Mom ;p)

I'd call the hair salon.. just as suggested. I also wanted some change and went to a hair stylist yesterday, for a hair color and a hair cut. The color looks great (just dark overall, but the cut is way shorter than I had in mind, she snipped about 4-5 inches, and I fussed but it was too late :(. The only consolation I have is that it grows fast and by the time summer gets here, it'll probably be the length I wanted in the first place.
As a sick mom, dealing with a baby with flu, you look beautiful! I have a 2 year old and after her having a cold for the last week, I look and feel like a mess, hence the need for that make-over...

Oh, Cilleena, you look so pretty here but it must be awful for you being ill, caring for a sick child, and then not enjoying your haircut or the result. Do call your regular stylist, I agree that it will be better to be a bit shorter than be unhappy. Not sure about retreating the coloured hair, I don't know if it's possible to do that so soon after colouring? Maybe Taylor will chime in. Good luck!

I'm not good with hair stuff, so I'll leave analysis of the cut to Taylor, who's the expert. My haircut and highlights usually settle down after a week or so. For what it's worth, I think you look great - the cut really brings focus to your eyes (which are beautiful.)

I am sorry Cilleena, but I totally see what you are seeing.
I am not crazy about the color either...but that can be fixed...I would also have your stylist edge up the cut for you.

I would contact YOUR stylist and let her reshape and correct the color. She can texturize and cut some chunky/and wispy edges in without removing much length...this can be done to the interior and not affect the length...The very best of luck my friend:)

I think this can be a really cute length on you when you get some texture cut into it. I also see what you mean about the color.... I hope you can get into your regular stylist soon and be a happy camper again. nothing worse than a haircut that you are unhappy with.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! I'm hoping my little one will pull through this soon. It took my older kids a week to get over it and they looked pretty bad at times. Not a good thing to witness on a baby. Our biggest concern is that he doesn't want to nurse or drink anything. We've been offering him fluids in every form we can think of. He's taking a little, but I'll be much happier when he starts nursing again.
Thanks for the suggestions to flat iron, but would you believe, I've flat ironed it to death to get it to lie down in this photo. When she styled it, it was curled under at the sides and very poofy. I think my daughter had this same cut when she was 3. Imagine the old fashioned "pageboy" cuts and you've got the look she gave me. This woman was supposedly a teacher at the beauty school too. It was something like the picture attached with less bangs...
I'll definitely go back to get them to cut in some layers and fix the color.
