...'cause you'll see the item you fell in love with weeks ago now marked down.

I went into Danier Leather about 3 weeks ago to pick up a bottle of their leather conditioning lotion and of course, wandered around a bit. I saw this gorgeous bordeaux shorter fitted jacket with some front detailing I really liked. Stupid me tried it on and fell in love! This jacket fit even better than my black one (which is coming out to play this week now that it's cool enough) - other than the sleeves needing shortening as usual.

Now I see it's marked down, For real leather jackets, I have the mauve one my hubby bought me last year for my birthday, the black blazer I bought with my fun money and the taupe "drapey" one from Gap. I also have cognac and ink blue faux leather jackets. I am slowly working towards having real leather instead of faux because I find the leather more comfortable.

My questions to my wise YLFers are:

1. Is another leather jacket just a duplication at this stage?
2. Is the colour and style different enough from what I have to warrent the purchase?
3. Because I have limited luck in finding leather jackets that fit my short torso properly, should I BBQ with this one?
4. Would this colour be dated in a year or two, or is colour itself not dated if fit is good?

Shannon, I can't remember if you were trying to be done with fall/winter shopping. For some reason I remember you saying that at some point - not SYC but just taking a break?

I don't see a huge need for this jacket, but if you adore it and are in shopping mode, why not? I'm not in love with it myself - the detailing actually bothers my eye - but I can see you wearing it and looking fab.

Oh wise Una - yes, I did say I was done shopping for fall/winter and that I do not need anything more and for something to come into my closet now, something had to leave (one in, one out rule).

Which for anyone watching what I buy, I did do with the faux fur vest. It came into my closet, and one of my lesser worn blazers went off to charity.

Actually I have to say, I'm just chuffed about my wardrobe this fall/winter. I like all of it too....hmm......good question...what would go out......???

I really like it, but what Una said.... I thought you were done. Would they be able to shorten the sleeves with all that detail at the cuffs?

Ohhhh I have to enable this purchase. I love the colour and think it will work well with your wardrobe. Since it is difficult to find a good fit, it might be wise to jump on it. But....would you purge the faux one in its place? Would you get enough opportunities to wear it since it will be fall/winter due to colour?

Brenda - yes, they'd be able to shorten the sleeves. They managed to shorten my mauve sleeves and they had a great deal of detail. They remove that bottom portion with the detail, shorten the sleeve above that and then reattach the other part.

But you're right - I said I was done. And I've just decided my new question for purchasing an item will be:

"What will my wardrobe/style achieve by adding this item?" And in this instance, nothing.

So there you have. Issue resolved. No leather jacket purchase. Thanks Una and Brenda. I obviously just needed a friendly but firm reminder.

Fall/winter is our dominant season so a jacket such as this can be worn from September through to April. It can be worn as an outdoor jacket and then when too cold for that, as a blazer indoors. As for what to purge, I don't know. All my other jackets get worn and serve a purpose with my wardrobe so I think it would have to be a different item. Hmmm...

Sounds like you've already made your decision but just wanted to say that jacket is gorgeous and I am very envious that it fit you. I tried it on when I was there but it was too long for my torso.

Oh no...now I'm waffling...Sylvie, it IS gorgeous isn't it? I'm surprised it fit me in torso length and not you. That's almost always my problem with Danier - I love the quality and their service but really wish they would entertain a Petite line.

you MUST get this jacket. i can see it on you and you look fabUlous. get rid of the purple leather if you must purge 1 to get 1 into your closet.

you will regret this if you do not purchase. a well fitting leather jacket is a tough thing to find...this is exceptional. look at the ruching, the waist definition, the COLOR.

bj111 - definitely can NOT purge the purple leather jacket - that was a gift from my hubby for my birthday and I absolutely love it. It would need to be one of my faux leather jackets I think or another jacket of some kind.

Shannon, I'm of the opinion that you can never have enough leather jackets if you love them so much as you do (and I do too;-).
And: yes to all your questions except the last one. If a colour looks good on you and you love it, I think you'll be happy to wear it long after it's maybe not on trend anymore (which doesn't mean that it has gone out of style, flattering colours & statement shades are always stylish in my book).

I vote get that fab jacket:-) (it's a good price too)

Hmm the jacket is gorgeous. But am having a hard time enabling you because your black leather jacket is so incredible. There's no question you could rock this baby...but a girl can only wear so many jackets - and you would have to choose not to wear one of the fab pieces you already own.
Another point to consider - the sleeves have pin-tucking detail at the edge. You may lose this if they are shortened.

This is why a second look is always worthwhile...went to Danier about an hour ago and tried on the jacket again and you know what? It didn't fit at all like I remembered. In fact, I didn't like it on me one bit. Good thing I didn't buy it on impulse - I really do my best shopping when I stop and really think about something. Clearly I was looking in the "magic mirror" last time!

honestly, i live in a 4 season climate and i just can't imagine owning that many leather jackets. i think it is duplicating.

Haven't read all of the responses but I will say this: when you we hunting for the perfect something we never find it (my case with a leather jacket right now). Yet, when we fall upon something that we don't need, but it's perfect, we don't buy it. Then we think about it. Sometimes we act, and it becomes that lovely thing we reach for all the time. Sometimes we just forget about it. All this means (it's 2:16 am and I worked a 10 hour shift on my feet as always yet I'm buzzed from Diet Pepsi) -- give it a day or two, if you're still thinking about it, go back and get it.

A perfectly fitting leather jacket in flattering style and color are so hard to find. Burgundy is around every season I think, it's just particularly popular this year. Just like we see forest green, cobalt, navy and grey every fall. We even see brown and earth shades every year, even when they aren't popular like right now.

(PS -- I remember the mauve jacket from DH. I love that jacket and the outfit you posted with it!)

Your thought process has resulted in my desire to go to Danier. Suz posted about a red leather jacket the other day and I had been in the store and seen at least three that were tempting. Alas the one you posted wasn't one of them but is also worthy.

What did you do? I love the jacket and have had as many as 4 or 5 leather jackets at times. They rarely seem to go out of style, are easy to care for, add warmth and have the versatility to be indoor or outdoor jackets in our long and very cold winters.

Still thinking about it so came back to edit.

If you wear a jacket 4 of the 5 weekdays, that would be 16-18 jacket wearing days per month not including casual outings (which the leather is perfect for). That is a lot of opportunities to wear the two you have and one more if it is fab.
