Need your opinions on a spring trench

April

I already have a black satin, full-length trench from Boden, as well as a short trench in the dreaded soul-sucking Trench Beige. I'm looking to replace that one.

I have been looking at these and would love some input:

My favorite is the plum. I think the clover is a bit more casual as is the white one and the third in fatigue is the most classic to my eye. I like them all but think the plum is the cutest. I think my second choice would be the one in clover.

They are all very nice so it depends whether you want classic or something a bit different.

My vote is for #1 (plum) or #4 (white). The color of the first is nice and bright and would be a good change from the black and beige you already have. Plus, its length is good. The white jacket is also very pretty....and a useful neutral. Maybe it's the Angie influence but I'm developing a fondness for white and cream! Maybe you are, too.

Maybe you can buy both?

Hi April --

I actually ordered the plum (and the sand version of it) when they hit as I'm so sick of being in my black one day after day!

FWIW (can't remember what colors you wear) -- I found the plum to be MUCH brighter (not deeper/darker, brighter) than the photo, and the sand to be much lighter. The plum is a gorgeous shade, but at least in my location's lighting it's not muted enough for me. [The sheen from the sateen intensifies the color, too.]

However, the sand is more of a bone/very light cool beige/platinum-y driftwood color. I've been getting a fair amount of compliments in it, and the color gets mentioned a lot as it's definitely not a standard "boring beige."

Normally I wouldn't mention the sand since it since it sounds like you have a deeper beige, but since you're looking at white thought I'd throw it out there. Especially if you want something to wear *with* white....

I love the plum coat, not just for the color but for the details as well. The white comes in a close second but has a more casual feel.

I just ordered the Ellen Tracy trench in fern, so I'll let you know how I like it when it's delivered! I agree with the others that that one in white and the first one in plum are my favorites - but the Ellen Tracy trench seems more versatile to me while the first one seems more dressy to my eye.

I agree with the ladies! The color of no. 3 can be very unflattering also.. I look terrible in that kind of green.

Coincidentally, I have a cart full of trenches at Nordstrom waiting for me to decide !

I really like them all - the white is beautiful. I have one in off-white ( eggshell) and I wash it more often than i wear it. Yet I understand the desire for something besides black.....so go ahead and try the Plum. It is a great color and such a cheerful alternative !

I strongly prefer #1. The tailored feminine shape is so pretty! I actually like the sand color quite a bit...hopeless neutral lover I suppose. The plum is pretty too.

If you get the first one in plum, we'll be trench twins. I love that one, I also really like the second one, but it is more casual and slightly less versatile, I think. Let us know what you decide?

I'm with Heather on loving #2, but I think that's because it's more *my* style--not necessarily yours :). I really like the silhouette of #1--it's a slight variation on the usual belted trench style. Do you love pink? The plum looks more like bright carnation pink to me, at least on my monitor. MaryK rocks her pink trench, but it is a bold statement, vs. taupe, black, or white (or even a true deep plum color).

I vote for the plum, of course. I am getting an amazing amount of wear out of the bright pink trench Lisa sent me -- if you're a colorful kind of gal, I think bright pink is a great neutral!

I love no.1, in all the colours available! No.4 is lovely too. I like the silhouette of no.3 but not so sure about the colour.

It's incredibly helpful to know that the "plum" color is pretty bright. That is not really my thing -- especially if it's more pink than purple. But a cool platinum/driftwood shade? Definite possibilities! Thanks, Vix.

And modgrl -- the aqua trench went back. It was in danger of being too old-ladyish, given my middle-agedness and generally non-edgy style.

Yes, Maya -- the aqua coat would have been fabulous on you, but on me it was questionable. It was one of those things like geek-chic eyeglasses: they look great if you have the edgy style to show that you're wearing them in a hip manner. If you're a bit older and have a less trendy style, the balance tips toward dowdy. Sigh.

Beth, thanks for pointing out that Macy's carries the coat -- their site shows the color rather differently than what it looks like on the Nordstrom site. Would you say this is truer to the real color: http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....%26spc%3D2 ?

Oh it's a shame the plum is so much brighter. I think it would still look lovely on you but I get that bright isn't your thing.

I vote for the platinum color and a plum scarf instead.

Geek chic only works if you're not a geek, so I am afraid I have to pass on that :p

Definitely plum! I like both the cut and color. #2 (the clover one) is an interesting silhouette, but I don't like any of the colors (too dark for spring! Especially since you already have a black trench...).

Now I'm very eager to get my coat;-) since the colour differs so much on both sites. Truth be told, I still wouldn't say the colour is "bright", actually, it definitely is a deeper shade, but I think it will still look beautiful on you, April.
