NAS DVF Dress K/R: Which Size?

Hi Everyone!

I posted yesterday about receiving my NAS DVF wrap dress and expecting the color to be "ivory" when in fact, it's "blush." But the print and color have REALLY grown on me after trying on both sizes (I'm sure makeup and hair help). Now I really love it! Per Angie, I am not removing the collar! I even think I like the sleeves long rather than 3/4 length. So I might not even need to have it altered at all. It's a miracle!

I'm definitely keeping the dress, but I could use help deciding which size. Photos 1-4 are size 8, Photos 5-8 are size 10, and the last one is for color/up close reference. I'd like to be able to wear the dress without a cami (for daily wear/less formal occasions). The size 8 would need fashion tape to keep the wrap part closed properly with movement (the photos are without it). If it fits better everywhere else, I could tape it and it wouldn't be a problem.

As far as feel when it's on, there isn't that much difference, except maybe there's a bit more "ease" in the 10, which keeps it closed in the front without tape, and the front flap closes further over on the side of my thigh, if that makes sense (the 8 closes in the middle of my thigh).

I think you look really good in both. Given that, I might recommend the 10 because the extra ease will make a wrap style more comfortable--psychologically comfortable because it will stay closed better.

There is not a lot of difference between the 8 and the 10 but overall I like the 8.

I'm voting for the 10 and mostly because I'm personally happier with a bit of ease - like I see in the back of the 10. (It'll be interesting if that's the exact thing someone points toward indicating 10 is too big. . .)

I also prefer that extra inch of length, and the higher crossover you get at the bust. I don't like if my clothes are depending on fashion tape for modesty. If you do go with the 8, I'd recommend alterations putting in a snap or other more secure device. No need to distract fellow employees

Oh, this is tough. I don't know which to choose. I like the fit in the front of the 10 better (it drapes better, I think, plus the extra coverage at the wrap is good for psychological comfort) but I prefer the 8 from the back (there seems to be excess material at the waist of the 10). ETA: FWIW, I think that is a length issue with the excess material so tying it tighter wouldn't fix it.

I umm, actually can't tell the difference between the fit of them on you.

So, I can tell you that to the layperson, either dress will look fantastic!

That's so pretty on you, Ana! They are really similar, but I have a slight preference for the size 8. The 10 looks a bit big in the back.

I am gasping in delight looking at your pics! This is a beautiful dress on you - I am so glad that you decided it was a keeper! I looks lovely on you. I prefer the smaller size - I think that there is too much bunching in the back of the larger size - and I think that the draping of the smaller one looks much more flattering where it is tied over your thigh, rather further back on your side. Also - the elongated neckline of the smaller one is more vertically pleasing than the larger one. Its a great dress - and I think I'm headed over to Nordies site to check them out!

Ana, it is just gorgeous!! I think the blush makes it even more special, and it looks very flattering on you. I prefer the 10, and absolutely agree that it is perfect as is (with collar and long sleeves:-)

Both fit, but, to my eye, the extra ease in the 10 looks more elegant, especially in the back. On the other hand, the 8 fits more closely so it has a bit more of a ladylike bombshell vibe. I think it comes down to what image best fits your style preference.

I vote for the 8 -- the 10 has some extra room in the back and the fit in the front looks similar enough between the two. (Besides, I can't help but think that if I needed an 8, surely you don't need larger than that because you look slimmer than me!)

I recommend having a small stitch put in the neckline where you want the wrap to overlap. I had that done with mine and now I don't even need to wear a cami with it. It holds the neckline in the right spot, and I can still easily slip the dress over my head.

You look gorgeous in both dresses, but I vote with those that prefer the 10. It is a close call, but the 10 makes you look a little more relaxed and at ease. Also the extra length is more flattering.

The 8 and 10 are really close, boy. But I can see the difference in neckline, so I'll say 10 too.

I can't quite tell the difference, except in the side-view, and in the side-view, I like the 8 just a smidge better.

Oh, I just looked at the extra fabric at the waist in rear-view. Yes, liking the 8 better. But both sizes look great on you, so I say go with the one that makes you happiest

Ana, this is absolutely gorgeous on you - and how cute is your hair?? Count me among those who can't decide. The only hesitation I have about the 10 is the little bit of excess fabric in the back - but to me that doesn't make it scream "I don't fit". I don't think you can go wrong with either, so I'd probably go with comfort.

Thank you so much everyone! I really appreciate the feedback and I'm really excited you all think the dress looks okay on me in general. This is so helpful. It seems like there's a mix of opinion on the board too. Lyn* thank you so much for the sweet compliment!

I'm kind of like Diana, I think I like the 10 better from the front, but the 8 better from the back, lol. I also maybe like the way the 8 fits around the arms better (a bit tighter). I tried them both on again, and when I tie the 8 really tightly around my waist, it stays in place on its own when I move around a lot, but it's not very comfortable. The 10 is definitely overall more comfortable, so I think I might go with that one. Maybe I can take it to the tailor and have them put a couple of darts in the back to take out some of the extra fabric in the waist.

Anyway, I'm still open to opinions. I have a couple of other returns to make to Nordstrom but I wasn't planning to go until tomorrow afternoon or Friday.

Pil, we posted at the same time! Thank you so much for the compliment about my hair! I'm growing it out a little bit and it's in that awkward stage. Good to know it still looks good, not too crazy.
