Try DUOBOOTS.COM. They worked for me. Looking at size 7.5 (EU 38) and ~ 12 inch calves. Ended up getting a 32cm boot which is working out great (Navia in black for those interested )

I'm officially joining this group... I always thought I had average calves, as I didn't know about fit issues and my widest part measures 14". However, now that I know better, it's SO hard to find a sleek boot. It seems most places measure the boot opening, not the widest part. This leaves me searching the 13" offerings -- good luck finding a 13" calf with a 4" heel that's actually made of leather for under $200!

After reading so many of the issues here, I've decided I have to give up on something if I'm ever going to find my perfect sleek, brown boots. I'm thinking I'll give up on the color, take whatever fit I can find, and dye to my ideal dark chocolate brown.

I have an old (2003!) pair of brown 3" heeled MIA boots that are 14" at the opening. Might be worth looking into some of their current offerings . . .

I posted on another thread a few months ago, but I found some flat boots that work for my 12" calves by adjusting the straps. These are actually aimed at wide calves, and I'd have missed them completely if a helpful salesperson hadn't pointed them out as her own choice for small calves. She added three holes per strap. I can loosen them easily for wearing with tucked in jeans. I got these in black leather at Dillards:

edit: These were available this morning but the first link is no longer working. they are Ecco Hobarts with three sets of straps and buckles.

I missed this thread the first time around. What fun! I'm so glad we have a support group.

I want to say that you should just save up your money and get Duo boots (unless you're Taylor, sorry). I tried probably 20 different pair of boots that were supposedly narrow calf and every single one of them had a calf measurement different from what was stated online. Except for the Duo boots - they were actually to spec.

If you happen to really like shopping and endlessly hunting for something that actually fits, then go for it. Personally this drove me insane and forking over the money for the Duos was a fantastic decision.

I love any thread that has anything to do with footwear!

I guess I'm in the narrow calves club too -- 13", with 7" ankles (huh, I never thought to measure my ankles before). But I don't have trouble finding boots to fit my calves because I'm also short with small feet, so the boot shaft width is usually about the right size. What I do have trouble with is shaft height -- often I think the boots are meant for someone who's about 5'4". Sometimes I so wish I had those extra three inches....so many things that would be so much easier....ah well.

Too funny! In the late 60's my mother bought my sister and I both black boots for Christmas. The shaft was some kind of squishy soft stuff that was supposed to hug our calves and look adorable. Instead, the tops of the boots sagged down our ankles like too big knee socis. Hey, maybe we invented the slouchy boot!

Count me in...13.5 calve, 8.5 ankle, and a 9.5 C foot flapping around at the end of it all.

I thought it might be helpful to summarize all the advice I've picked up from the various narrow-boot threads I've been reading:

Recommended Brands:
La Canadienne
Stuart Weitzman
Duo
MIA
Miz Mooz
Spanish/Italian/European brands
Vaneli
Aquatalia
Sudini
Via Spiga
Cole Haan

Recommended Work-arounds:
Laces
Functioning buckles (add holes w/leather punch if needed)
Stretch panels/gussets/shaft
Tailoring by cobbler (approx $40-$60, must have full zipper)
Ebay (tell seller exactly where you want them to measure)

I'm joining also, about 13.5". I've found that some Franco Sarto boots are small in calf circumference. Unfortunately they're usually too high of a heel for me.

Joy, if I recall correctly Debora has the Ecco boots in your second link. Nordstrom added extra holes in the straps and they look fabulous on her.

I think you are right, Beth. They are very comfortable boots and well made.

Count me in too im a size 9.5 with 12inch calves and ive given up on finding knee high boots for my slim calves, Out of all the styles ive seen in the past 12 months none are right on me i dont want that gumboot look.

I never thought I had narrow calves. *measures* ... 13"

13.5" calves and 9" ankles for me.

please add me to the list! I have super narrow calves which don't go with the rest of my athletic body ... I also have fairly big feet (9.5 US). I CANNOT wear the original hunter wellies - they look CRAZY on me. But we are lucky ladies .... we can wear all kinds of skinny jeans and pants!!

Funny to read this resurrected thread! I've rarely tried on a boot that felt wide in the calf to me, and in fact, sometimes I've struggled to zip up some styles on my left leg in particular. I just had to measure now, out of curiosity, and my calf measures 13.75" on my right and 14" on my left. I suppose this is a fairly average size, but it does make me realize how precise sizes can be, and how frustrating it must be when fab items aren't available in a proper width.

My mom wore a very narrow shoe. You never see shoes available anymore in AA widths, and that was so frustrating for her! When she was very young, she needed a AAA width. I remember that whenever I struggle to find a shoe that doesn't slide off my heel because it's too narrow in a regular width. To look at my shoe collection, its obvious that even with a slightly-narrow foot, there are still plenty of shoes out there that I can wear.

I always thought my calves were chunky, but I guess not. I'm at 14" (and this is me, 10 pounds over my usual weight), and 6" ankles. (Seriously, I have small ankles?!?? This makes me almost deliriously happy-- I'm terrified of cankles!). I usually wear an 8.

I may start another thread, but most boots shafts seem to fit me fine-- neither very much "extra", and never too tight. BUT, I have been looking for a pair of knee-high flat brown boots and stumbled across a pair at DSW. These have been the ONLY boots to come even remotely close to what I'm looking for that weren't over $150 (yes, I'm cheap when it comes to shoes-- I'd rather have an incredible variety of awesome cheap shoes than only two pair of nice ones that last forever. Weird, I know).

Anyway, those boots (which I can't return now, anyway) are the ones that made me think maybe my calves are a bit narrow. =( They're pull-on boots, and I ADORE the style, but now I'm at a loss because I feel like they're clunky around my calves and I don't know what to do. Maybe I should just give up caring because I like them so much and wear them anyway. =(

All that to say . . . I wish I didn't have to part of this support group, but at least I feel like I'm in good company.

I never thought of myself as having small calves, but I'm realizing I do. 13.5" at the widest point and slightly under 8" ankles. I'm a runner, too, so my calves are even smaller during the winter months when I don't run as much.

Sigh. It's really hard. I so much want to wear tall Fryes. Rae, thanks so much for that helpful list of brands and solutions.

14.5 inch calves are regular width territory. My clients who have 14.5 to 15.5 inch calves have NO problem finding boots unless they are short in height. Boots do not come in petite. Thank goodness for slouchy styles.

16 inches and upwards becomes as much of a challenge as 13 inches.

Hi Everybody- Just joined the group to tell you about a pair of boots I narrowed myself with my old sewing machine.
The "Maryn" boot (Steven by Steve Madden) is a fold over knee high boot that completely unfolds allowing you to sew all along the boot on the outside of it, cut the excess and then fold it back over.
This is how huge they were:http://bit.ly/pRNeH3
I made them fit my 13" calves!

omg...this thread just won't die!

calf width is such a strongly-felt and hot topic!

That's because there are so many of us who have trouble finding boots ect.
I must add myself to the roster. 13" calf and 7.5" ankles. I have no boots...

I have chicken legs, though my calves don't sound that small -- 14"; however, I wear a size 11. The bigger the shoe, the bigger the calf. I haven't measured my ankles, but they are super skinny. Size 11 boots typically come with a 16 or 17" circumference as shoe makers assume that women with large feet have large calves. It's so annoying. I used to be able to wear Sudini, but Sudini started cutting its sizes larger about 5 years ago. I have had many pairs of Duo boots, but they are of really poor quality and wear out after one season. Plus with the exchange rate and customs, they can cost well over $300. I really need some new boots this year, but I can't bear the thought of paying so much for such crappy quality boots. I would pay $600 for boots that wouldn't wear out and that would fit.

You are my people!! I have barely 12" calves and have never had luck finding boots that fit. I've tried on literally hundreds of pairs of boots that look like they might work, but don't. I had a pair of Kenneth Cole boots once that were stretchy fake-leather that worked, but have tried Kenneth Cole again to no avail. Have not been able to dish out the $$ for Stuart Weitzman or Duoboots. Have found Chinese Laundry boots that look pretty good with jeggings but still a gap. I'll keep looking . . . and post if I find the perfect pair. Thanks for all the great advice. May try the cobbler route if still no success this winter.

12.5" inches on my bigger side (after weight training), and 5'9" tall and a size 9 shoe.

My male cousin called me bird legs for the first time when I was maybe 6 years old. Unfortunately I never grew out of it.

Bought some Duos last year and I love them. They are an over the knee style (think they were called Primrose then). I actually had to send the 32" ones back for 34"; couldn't get used to the tightness around my calf, and I don't want to make my legs look even skinnier anyway. The return shipping was $20 and it took what seemed like forever to get them back from the UK.

I also have found most sites to be off on the circumference measurements. Always try to verify on at least two shoe sites; you would not believe the differences listed! That sometimes fails, too. The only thing I've found to be reliable is detailed reviews that say "I have narrow calves", and specify HOW narrow they really are. Really appreciate those reviews ladies!

Zappos seems to be the most accurate with their measurements (will often say "circumference based on a size 8 or 8.5"), probably because they have free returns and they want to avoid this if possible. They have given outstanding customer service to me in the past, as well. Nordstrom has been pretty good, but the last pair I ordered from them seemed way bigger than advertised and had to go back.

Just found this thread and I would be remiss if I didn't join the support group! I'm signing in with scant 12" calves and a size 8 shoe. My ankles must be small too because I've been known to wear an arm bracelet as an ankle bracelet....back in the day, of course.

Thanks for the narrow shaft boot summary, Rae!

Hi,
I never thought I would find boots to fit my slim calfs but I just did. Take a look at these two:
1.Blondo Women's Providence Boot at Endless.com that ships worldwide - they are taller than knee-high but not quite thigh-high. It may have a 14.5" boot opening but the calf area is definitely smaller and would have to be to fit me (12.5" calf size). Soft waterproof suede and very comfortable. Got them in the black leather too.
2. Blondo Women's Pasadena Knee-High Boots also from Endless.com. I liked the suede better than the leather but won't be keeping them as the calf is between 13.5"-14"
3. Also try DUO in the UK http://www.duoboots.com/?deliv_country=US where you can order boots according to your calf size and they ship worldwide.

Hope the above helps.

measuring calves.....mine seem to be 14" at 5' 6 1/2" with 32 inseam. Guess my calves are inbetween. Teamed some new knee high black riding boots at Christmas with a scoopneck three quarter black dress in jersey and dark tights and really felt stylish but I cannot for the life of me get pants to "tuck" nicely. I know I should probably try skinnies or jegging/leggings but my thighs are round and it makes me insecure.

i have normal sized calves (14") but only an 8 inch ankle circumference!

Just posting my stats to find others in the same 'boat'. 5'5", size 7.5 shoe, 12" calves, 6.5" ankles. yikey! My goal is to share tips and get advice for all price ranges of boots. Don't mind having a couple of pricier pairs, but prefer not to break the bank with every purchase that will fit my measurements. Let's band together!
