Ok...we have everything from 10 to 14 inches here...what is considered an average calf circumference?

taylor, I think it's 15''.

No wonder the average boot has a 5 inch gape on me, My legs look like pencils wobbling around
I have been buying boots as per Angie's recommendation ...with some scrunch. Honestly the 2 pr. over the knee scrunch boots are AMAZING and fit well...completely bypass my 10 inch calves and focus more above the knee and they slouch a bit so they don't have to fit snug...I am really happy:)

If I can find boots anyone can find boots.

Reporting in at 12.5 inches. And I am very short as well so that most knee-highs end, say, 1/4 of the way up my knee. A very strange place indeed. It's not easy, folks. I have found boots, but it requires limitless optimism and persistence.

12 1/2" calves - 7" ankles. I'm in. And I already feel better to hear that I'm not alone in my never ending search for boots that fit my ankles and calves!
Taylor - did I miss it where you said that you found the OTK boots?

Yes , Marley you must have missed my posts .
I bought a pr. of Guess heeled OTK black slouchy boots at NAS, and broke my SYC ban with a pr. of Marc Fischer Oyster colored OTK heeled boot.
Last spring I bought below the knee slouchy heeled boots as per Angie's recommendation to accommodate my small calves...works like a charm. I posted photo's of all...:)

Miz Mooz seems to make a lot of narrow calf boots, if you're in the 13 inch area. Maybe even 12. Some of them have buckles which can be adjusted to be narrower.

I have a feeling one of these will be ending up in my closet before winter...

15" is probably average, but it seems like everyone I know is either smaller or larger than that.

Thanks Maya! If only infinity had free returns... none of the miz mooz boots on endless (which does have free returns) are less than 14" around, but I've already wasted a lot of money on return shipping this year, so I'll just keep hoping some of those boots show up on other websites.

These boots have a 12'' shaft! That would actually be too small for me.

C1, I'm tempted to try on some too small boots so that I can know that they really do exist. It's hard to stay strong when I have have another 3 boxes of boots that I'll be mailing back to Endless tomorrow morning...

Hi, I'm Anusha and I'm very new here. This is my first real post! It's soooo good to know there are others out there with this problem! My calves are 13" around at the widest part and I have the skinniest ankles too. I was thrilled when scrunched boots came in style because I was able to get a pair of boots that looked good on me for the first time in my life!

I've found a couple of pairs of non-floppy boots that actually look good. I'll try and post photos! I'd love to find a sleek pair of black leather boots but don't really see this happening anytime soon.

Is it very expensive to get existing boots taken in?

Wanted has some narrow boots. The Ballard is even adjustable (13.5" listed on the website for size 6 and their rep told me they go down to 13" at the smallest (I'm not sure if that means in size 11, as I asked or if she's still talking about in the size 6).

Anchi, my cobbler charges $40-60 to take in boots. I'm sure the price varies depending on location.

Thanks for the info ladies!
@Dusty, the Wanted Ballard boots are very cool! Did you get them? It's always good to know which brands have narrower boots because it's nearly impossible for me to tell from online images.
@Kate, that's good to know! I thought the cost would be too high, but that seems reasonable. Have you ever had any boots taken in?

@Anchi No, I haven't gotten them. Endless seems to only carry them up to size 10 (and, of course, I need the 11) and I don't want to have to pay return shipping if they don't work out. I'm doing some research to see if any local stores carry them so I can try them on first.

I hope you can find them too! They are really nice. But I hear you on trying them on first. I think with non-slouchy straight boots it's crucial. That's why I haven't ordered any online.

If you have a DSW nearby that might be a place to try! :o)

Endless shows the Wanted Ballard calf coming in at 15," which raises another highly frustrating issue for members of the Narrow Calf Support Group: those online calf measurements are very often incorrect.

If a real person with the boot in front of her said it was 13.5, that's probably more reliable than what's listed on a website.

Building off of April's complaint: It's always confusing to know where the boot was measured. Sometimes they measure the boot opening, which is not terribly helpful, and other times they measure at the widest part of the calf. But often there is no way to know. Some measurements just seem made up out of thin air. I find online retailers confusing about giving measurements like heel height and boot circumference and also inconsistent about categorizing boots by calf size.

Finally, I don't think designers realize that calf circumference and weight/size are really not related. You can be slim and small and have large calves, or large and curvy and have skinny calves. Just because clothing sizes are getting larger to accommodate larger people doesn't mean the effect needs to trickle down to boot circumference. Look at how many people here have narrow calf issues! It's a crime that we are such an underserved market. I understand everyone with wide calves probably hates me now, but honestly, they have so much more choice because they are treated as a specific market. They even have websites that cater to them. We narrow calf girls have NOTHING. No one is hearing our cries!

I'll be part of the narrow ankles group if there is one. Almost every pair of boots I've tried slouches at the ankles. Combined with 14" calves and necessity for a shorter shaft than average and budget concerns, I have many futile boot shopping trips. Many

I think everyone's observations are just right on. I know there are shoe brands for wider calves. Why can't there be any for narrow calves?!! Or can't they just make a few styles every season and SPECIFY that they're for narrow calves? That would save a lot of desperate searching in stores, and it would be so much easier to order them online if you knew they were constructed narrow to begin with.

Frustration!

Count me in too !! I just found this "support group".

11 1/2 calves and very thin bony ankles.

I'm 5'7" 113 lbs and a size 7 shoe
I have to be careful about style, no spring chicken here!

I have somehow missed this thread. Count me in as a member of the group, with my 12" calves.

I definitely belong in this group too. My calves measure 13.5". I only have 1 pair of boots right now and they are slouchy. I am ready to begin a serious boot hunt!

Another member here: 13.5-inch calves and 8-inch ankles. It's now been a while since this support group started. Has anyone had any luck? I have a pair of boots that I successfully and fairly inexpensively had taken in, but they are still doing the dreaded ankle slouch. I wonder if there's anything a cobbler could do about that? Sew in something at the ankle to hold them more upright, maybe? It's not like there isn't plenty of extra room in there...

Here's another option:

The circumference is more like 13-13.5. Too slouchy in the ankles for me, but definitely a narrow calf.

Thanks Beth, I'm checking into these!

I'm part of this support group too. (Just found it.) 13" calves, 8" ankles. Also searching for those elusive cognac flat knee high boots.

Stylemama, take a look at Miz Mooz Kailia. I have 13" calves and 7.5" ankles and these fit me perfectly.

Beth, those are beautiful! Sadly, they appear to be unavailable right now. Just as well for me as I blew my budget on coats today!

I am in. Calf circumference is 12.5" bare and 13" with tall thick socks on. Shoe sz is 8 - 8.5
