My Winter Skirt Offerings

Reading the blog post I realised I don’t wear skirts much In Winter. It’s summer here now but I had a browse through my winter outfits and found these two.

One skirt (the black) is linen the other (black and gingham) is a heavy cotton that is double sided and both can be worn through most seasons but this is how I wore them for A/W this year.

I’m not sure if there is a formula here but I definitely favour my flat black boots with my skirts in winter.

Your skirts look designer and I like that you have kept things simple and let the skirt be the star. What coat would you wear?

How cold and snowy is winter where you live? Wool or a wool blend was my ‘go-to’ when I was in the world of work, but winters meant -20degC and lots of snow. Longer skirts were a challenge to mobility since they would wrap around legs or inhibit popping over a pile of curb side snow.

The lovely swoosh of a long skirt, and cotton and linen fabrics would be a summer thing!

Regardless, your skirts have interesting design details that results in an interesting architectural style, but also a bit lagenlook. Bonnie does this full skirted silhouette very well.

Skirts are always more challenging in winter because many fabrics stick to tights.

I especially LOVE #1. KILLER look that you wear well

The black platform boots help you feel grounded in these looks, I suspect. They also make the bottom two thirds of your outfit - skirt plus boots - appear long and vertical, which is back to conventionally flattering proportions.

Ah, love to see some seriously artsy combos here-nr 1 is killer of course, nr 2 not less! I see you do have a twin set of skirt and top in nr 2, isn't it---that formula is always a winner -more like a dress--and you know I always loved your hi-low knitted vest! Thanx for posting!

@Murph11 thank you. I wear gingham all seasons, I have a mild obsession with it.

@Joy I have the luxury of travelling to work by car and being able to park right at my office so often it's just a leather jacket and a scarf or sometimes I will wear one of two long coats

@Runcarla yes Bonnie is a master of the layered looks I must check in on her recent posts. Our winters are cold (by my standards) but the temp very rarely drops below '0' and we don't have snow where I live.

@cardiffgirl I think it's all about dressing in a way that is true to you. For example if I dressed in a 100% classic style I would feel like a fraud, be uncomfortable like a little girl wearing her mum's clothes lol

@Suz, thank you. Yes skirts are not as easy but I often wear a fine slip under my tops and skirts in winter. The extra layer helps to stay warm and stops the skirt from clinging.

@Angie, thank you and yes the boots are definitely ground the outfits for me. And being petite I do like to lengthen my bottom half (if I can) and this seems to work.

@Nikki, thank you. I might just have quite a collection of gingham in my closet lol. I adore it. I think it's timeless and has a hint of edge to it.

@Shevia, thank you lovely! These boots have been worn and worn for the past 4 nearly 5 years and they are my perfect boot. Solid, beautiful leather and the thick sole. I actually bought a replacement pair this winter that are a little more refined looking but I still keep reaching for this and cannot bring myself to move them on... I just keep getting them repaired.

@Lyn67 I have had the vest for years now and it survives every single closet clean out. It's a staple item for me. I love to mix my ginghams and will mix different sized gingham checks in the same colourway.

@Jenava, thank you and good to see you. The sweater was an impulse fast fashion purchase (hanging head in shame lol) and it turned out to be a fabulous buy. And gingham makes my heart sing as much as black does

@lucylove thank you. The boots are years old now and are by an Australian brand called Silent D. They are the best boots I have every owned. Ridiculously comfy and I think they are pretty cool x

Deborah, your creative style is something I aspire to. You always look amazing without looking like everyone else. I absolutely love the outfit in #1, and the boots are fab, too.
