Mo's comment does raise an interesting question, though, doesn't it. This year the loafer is hot, and it's just as basic and unsexy and mannish as ever, but it's trending so our eyes adjust and suddenly it looks fresh and cool and cutting-edge.
When the original Crocs start being worn by the young and hip (with Mom jeans back, can they be far behind?), will there suddenly be a $600 dollar version from a designer? Sure there will.
Crocs certainly got their act together as far as their offerings. They caught on that people adored their comfort and wanted that without having to feel sheepish, and now they're hip enough to do a deal with Mondo Guerra.
To differing degrees, I think we're all susceptible to fashion's whims about what's good at any given moment.
