I got this straw bag 16 years ago. this is the 17th spring i have carried it! it only comes out to play once spring has truly begun here in Missouri, and it only stays until summer kicks in. then it goes back into hibernation, to preserve its lifespan.
it is a fairly structured back, in a clamshell shape. i can carry it in my hand, or i can carry it over a wrist/forearm. it holds a surprising amount: my wallet, keys, phone, small zipped bag of lipsticks, sunglasses, and occasionally my kindle!
i was inspired by my grammy's bamboo purse. hers is shaped more like a basket, with what look like bamboo skewers forming the sides (like vertical jail bars). she lines it with a colorful scarf to keep her things from falling out. she got hers in hong kong, back in the 70's and still carries it in the warm weather months. my goal is to make my purse last as long as hers! it is certainly timeless enough that it won't ever go out of style
