My homework - if you're ready for tons of pics

As assigned, I put on various shoes of all heights, tops of all colors and sleeve lengths. Some tucked, some not. Please imagine swapping out shoes as trying all possible combos would have me here all. day. long.
I tried my snakeskin textured blazer but it was a lighter black, so no go.
Deep breath, here goes . . .

I love all of the flats and sandals with them. Less fond of the heels and the sneakers.

In my next life, I want legs like yours.

Thanks I find I'm not so fond of the colors, but like the neutral outfits better. Still torn on the silhouette itself.

That first outfit and the turtleneck. I die! Agree the neutrals wirk best. Also the boots especially and the sandals. Oh and metallics.

I love them with the black shirts tucked in! They seem a little less perfect with the red and blue - but maybe I'm just not quite used to it.

I am torn. I surprised myself by really liking the turtleneck version. And I figured black would work, but I was hoping to have a short to pair with all the colors I have. And I'm not so sure tucking is going to be appealing in the summer heat.
Another concern is figure flattery. These fit almost like an a-line skirt, which I've eliminated from my closet. Hits at my widest spot and then flares out from there, visually adding more width past my high hip. When shorts come back in, along the leg, I feel much sleeker (like pic below).
Finally, I have to decide if having 2 or 3 home run outfits is worth it, or if I am looking for a much more versatile remixer.

For starters:
-You have amazing legs.
-My eye is always slow to adjust to different cuts

That said, I don't love these. I like #15, with the heels drapey black top tucked in, but in other combinations (especially untucked) the high waist and wide hem looks frumpy to me.

Mo, I agree that you have great legs! So you certainly can wear shorts AND look amazing in them. But none of these looks are wowing me. I liked the shorts in theory, as a sophisticated, slightly dressier looks but seeing them 'in action' I think you can do better. Sorry.

I like the untucked tops, especially the turtleneck and the black top in #11. I also like the long sleeved top in #15. I think I don't like the tucked tops in general because of the proportions - the top and shorts look to be the same length when tucked which seems odd to me. A lower rise would probably be better.

For shoes, I like the flats and sandals. Sneakers look a bit too sporty in contrast to the more refined shorts, and I am just not a fan of high heels and shorts together.

And for the record I appear to be the opposite of you and many others. I LOVE when shorts flare at the hem and I actually hate when they taper. (Maybe this has to do with my poison eye for bermudas too) I feel like a wide leg on a midthigh short makes your thigh look so slim and sleek in comparison.

Interesting, Diana . . . I feel like the blue lady on the restroom sign when they flare. ha! But I think I'm seeing the same proportion issues you mentioned. I wonder if this all falls under figure flattery vs style or edge.

I much, much, much prefer these with the neutral tops, especially black. The turtleneck looks as if it is not quite the right shade of taupe but even so, I really like that look -- also a bit of a surprise!

I have a weird poison eye for heels and short shorts (even though they do make your legs look even more fab) so I prefer them with the sandals, flats, sneakers, and booties.

My faves are 1/2; 13, 15.

I think if you are okay with less wardrobe versatility and certain set outfits, these are great. If you want them to "go" with everything, not so much.

I always feel that a high waist should really define your waist. These do not. The tucked in black shirts are best and I too like the turtleneck. To my eye your legs are the star of the outfit and the shorts seem a bit distracting. I really like the idea and see why you were drawn to them, just doesn't quite translate for me. I also think you are on to something with the whole A line comment. Curious to see what you decide

First off, an A+ on your homework assignment. Wow.

I really like these, with the neutral tops, esp black. Not so crazy about the blue and red. But I'm not sure they're a 10. It's almost as if they stand out from your body a bit at the waist, making you look bigger than you are, ie not waist defining. Does that make any sense? But I do like the length and fit on the leg.

Also not crazy about the sneakers, they seem too clunky. But all other footwear, yes.

And seeing these on you, and how well you wear this length, I think you should look for a black leather pair.

I really like the turtleneck version and the black drapey blouse. I think they look best with the black, taupe, and white and are definite attention grabbers. I agree with Suz that they're great if you're ok with certain favorite combinations. Probably not going to be the most versatile piece in your closet, though.

I've been waiting to respond but since you've now down all the homework I guess it's time...

Simply put, I don't think you'll wear them enough. Anytime I've ever had a lot of hesitation about something, it was the wrong thing for me. You have fantastic legs and a great shape and the shorts show it off just fine, so it's not that they aren't flattering. It's more that I don't see them as "you" so much. You've been wanting a more rock & roll or edgy vibe I thought and these seem a bit more sporty or something.

You've also pointed out that you want shorts for summer and I'm totally with you on not wanting to tuck in tops in the heat of the summer - and everyone seems to like the tops tucked in with these.

I think I'd look for an edgier pair with some other features you know you love in shorts.

I don't think these shorts are bad, but I don't think they're that great either. Some of the stylings look good, others not so much. That's not very versatile. And you're right that the ones that don't look good make your hips look wider and your waist look shorter. I can't wear the flared silhouette very well either. Just this past summer, I returned some shorts to Old Navy because of the flare issue. It's just not flattering; it breaks up the nice vertical line we like to have.

It sounds to me like you're really not happy in your heart about these shorts...I feel like you're working very hard to see if you can make yourself like them. In my own life, I have found that that's a sign that I need to take the item back. Save your money and spend it on something that makes you say "YES!" when you look in the mirror.

I like them with the black tops, but I think they need to be tucked. I love them with the black booties, but not with the sneakers. I think if you are wanting a dressy pair of shorts for going out these are perfect, but if you are looking for something to integrate into your casual everyday wardrobe they don't quite fit. But I think you look amazing in them and they show off your fabulous legs beautifully.

Really like them with the cream, black and cobalt. I think the shorts are tailored so that heels can work, but I prefer the flats. You have great legs!

I'm just back from a run and shower. Thank you all for your comments. I really appreciate them. I went ahead and emailed BF to print up a return label. I agree they may be an interesting foray into more sophistication, but I'm just not feeling them. I think they are a tad big, actually, but I don't LOVE them enough to try a size down. That's okay. I tried. On to other things! (I do love the idea of a leather short, but, boy, they'd have to be perfect to get the BF not seeing biker bimbo in his head! )

Mo, I love the shorts on you! I prefer the neutral combinations. They look sleek and well put together. Flats or heels work really well. I do think the tucked tops work better creating a more structured look overall and keeping the line of the outfit long.

I don't think the sneakers, taupe booties, graphic tank, or sage green top work, but everything else is pretty darn killer to my eye. Surprised that you feel this cut isn't flattering on you; I like them more than the white shorts you posted. But if they aren't you, then they aren't you. On to the next thing!

I think I missed an earlier thread but I prefer the low vamp footwear and sandals best. These are fun shorts, I like that two tone look they have.
