Vince leather pants - Keep/Alter/Return

The pants came, and they are soooo nice. Oh My God. Beautiful. And total bonus, the back half is suede. Exactly what I've been looking for - a leather panel pant with suede back.
They fit my legs just fine (no surprise there, as my thighs have no trouble filling out pants lol) but are a bit looser above the hip toward the waist. Not fall down loose, but definitely needing a belt loose. I think I would hem them (rolled in pics 4 and 5). I'm wondering if it is worth the cost to bring in the waist from above the rear pockets up, or if that's even possible. The only place I can see asking is Nordie's in Tampa (we are going in 2 weeks). Or if I should just wear a belt and enjoy the more relaxed waist fit.
The last option is return, but I don't think that's an option I want to hear ha ha.

They are wonderful and I would try to find a good leather tailor and have the waist taken in.

They are quite stretchy, as you can see where I'm putting my hand in the back of the waistband. But I don't know if they'd stretch out and stay stretched out?

Gorgeous, Mo! I wish I knew more about leather alterations. It couldn't hurt to talk to someone at Nordies Tampa by phone to check out the possibilities!

Ohhhh they look so great on you! For the price, you want them to fit perfectly - I'd say find a trusted tailor who works with leather and have them altered. Are you wearing a belt in 1-3?

They are gorgeous and fit you so well! The waist looks perfect from the front – are you pulling at the material in the profile photo? or is the gap that large naturally?... I'm thinking if it's not too gap-y, a belt might suffice and you can start enjoying them – a semi-tuck would work great

I do love them. although a little nip and tuck from a qualified leather "doctor" would not be remiss. Do you have a cobbler? They might be able to do it.

OMG Mo - so gorgeous!! Love, love, love!! I agree they look good up front and they fit you like a dream. You can either wear them a bit as is and see how they feel but this is a item you are going to want to wear a lot and feel fab in., if they really feel too big in the waist I would have them nipped in. So fabulous!! Doing the happy dance for you!!

They look amazing Mo. Can you wear them around the house for a couple of hours to see if they stretch much more? If you wear a belt is there any "bunching" at the waist? If there is they may need altering if not then they should be okay - leather does stretch though I have a very soft unlined leather jacket - it stretches with my body movements but returns to it's proper shape after I take it off.

Caro, good idea to wear them around. No, no bunching with a belt. It's like the material is ready to stretch, but will lay flat on my body. The only issue is my legs pull the pants down with their movement if not belted, because they fit on the thighs more snugly than anywhere else. (this happens with normal skinnies on me as well, and I often belt them, or play the hike up game all day)

Ah, Una, you're so smart! I honestly think I could fit a size down in these and let them stretch to me, but there isn't one available. So that point is moot lol.

Pants look great! I found out last week that Nordies will only shorten hems and (I think) sleeves on items not purchased at Nordstrom. So if you want that waistline taken in, you will have to find a tailor which it looks like you've done.

Okay, at this point, I am thinking of keeping and looking into altering. Even if it's up to $100 to alter, that's still a very good price on pants that retail for over $1000.

I think they're great! So I think I mentioned on your previous thread that I have 3 pairs of Vince jeans and they are all too big in the waist. I haven't bothered to alter any of them because to be honest I kind of like the looser waistband. I do need a belt to keep them up, but no muffin top, you know? And you can adjust the belt depending on how bloated you are that day, or if you're going to be sitting for a long time, or whatever. But I don't know if it would be different in leather vs. denim. The waistbands of my Vince jeans don't stretch much.

I have the same issue with skinnies (almost all skinnies, unless they are a bit loose on my thighs) and I know what you mean. I'd belt them.

And wear around to see what happens -- you know, they might loosen in the thigh enough that the pull down effect would be less.

Stunning pants. A fantastic splurge for you!

Thx, Diana. I do remember you mentioning that. These are pretty stretchy all over, interestingly. Even down at the hems of the leg openings.
I do see that there is a seam along the back waistband, so that should make altering much easier. And they are not lined.

I had a suede skirt taken in at my tailor and it was easy peasy. But pants are always tougher. Still, what you're describing makes it sound possible.

If I were me, which of course I am ;), I'd return because of all my pants issues. For me, pants have to come staying up.

Rachy, so true! I just measured and they are 32" waistband when I do better with 31". I can't help but think so many people here talk about bringing in waists on their jeans, that this should be a doable alteration, even though it is leather and suede.

I would keep and alter. They look amazing on you, and I think taking in the waist is a relatively easy alteration (Angie usually says so when people mention the waist is too big).

I know from reading a couple of petite blogs that waist alterations are some of the easiest to do with pants. Other stuff is much more difficult. If the hips fit, you're good.

I do think these look stunning on you, Mo! I do think a hem would be in order also.

As far as Nordie's and alterations...my Nordie's said that they do alterations for anyone, it's just that you get a discount if you bought the item in-store. So I would check with them too. You don't want just anyone to do them.

I almost ordered a pair of Vince faux leather pants from Nordie's, but the sizing info said that they ran big so to size down. Well, of course that meant I was sized out! Grr.

I think you need to keep in mind that leather pants are going to stretch out with wear.
How much to you want to invest in these pants? Tailoring them could be a lot

They look great! I recommend wearing them once on a trial run before altering. Almost all of my jeans *could* use altering in the waist (sigh, thighs), but sometimes I just don't even bother because the fit all over eases up with wear and reduces the "tugging up" factor. Or I just decide to live with a little room in the waistband, which I must admit is sometimes welcome for a little more comfort and less digging when I'm sitting.

I'm a little surprised at how many people think that pants like this will fit perfectly off the rack without a little alteration. Waist alterations and hemming are two inexpensive ways to make a fab item perfect.

Ok, here's my two cents as an owner of multiple pairs of leather leggings, pants and skinnies.
They should be very tight. Leather stretches, and these probably have a built in elastine component which will make them stretch even more. If they very tight in the thigh, then it is worth altering the waist. I can tell they're loose in the ankle.
My oldest leather leggings are over four years old. They're now a bit loose in the knees.
