My Gingham & UPDATE - YouLookFab Forum

I have three gingham items, a dress, a shirt, and a pair of pants. The dress is really old but I wear it several times each year. The shirt is from J Crew and I bought it to wear under my COS sweater that I've also had awhile. The pants are a unicorn that I have not been able to find the right top to wear with. Any ideas?

UPDATE: I tried the pants with a patterned dress and two shirts. I like the black shirt best but ultimately decided that the problem with the pants is not styling it but the side zipper. The pants fit snugly and the zipper gets caught in the fabric. I will donate the pants and someone with a smaller waist will get a great pair of gingham pants.

Reminds me how much I love the look of a patterned collar peeping out of a sweater. Cute dress, as well. The pants look like they could go with almost anything! Esp. a black solid. But what about a navy sweater, or a collegiate sweater vest?

Ok my…#1 is just so good! Love love love. The proportions, the layering, the barrel pants, the neck line of the sweater, the sneakers, it all works together so beautifully

#2 is great as well, but I’m just more of a sweater and pants girl, so #1 just speaks to me.

ALL: Thank you so much for the great ideas and kind words. I'm now inspired to try again to style my gingham pants. Love Angie's idea of a print top and have a few I could try, the white boho top seems fun and could work really well, and of course mustard and colored tops will work. Not sure why I'm having trouble with the pants, maybe it's the length, proper shoes, seasonality, or navy color. I definitely will work on this.

I had a quick peek at your Collections and I think your mustard and green items will look particularly cool with the navy gingham pants. I had a pair of pants cut in a similar style and length previously and preferred them with slightly longer. more fluid untucked tops and ballet shoes. Also sandals that have an ankle strap, like the model is wearing, (so not a slip on). In cooler weather booties. I see you have high top sneakers, maybe they could work? Why not do an outfit lab and we can chime in?

Gosh, Bonnie, what a revelation! It's good you figured out the problem with the pants and can let them go to a new home without regret.

The pants are lovely with the solid tops. But if the fit isn’t right then off to a new home they go! So glad you’ve learned why they don’t work for you and now you also know what to look for (or in this case what to avoid) in the future, I hope you find the right gingham pants sometime because this pattern is lovely on you.
