My first WIW!

I started following Angie about 4 or 5 years ago after my 3rd child was born. I felt at the time like I was a dumpy, slobby, forever-between-sizes mess.

YLF and the many members here really gave me a different perspective on personal style. In a moment of epiphany, I realized that I wanted my style to be “effortless chic”. Not sure if I’ve gotten there yet, but today was the first time I *felt* like I had. Mostly, I think I’ve learnt that being “effortlessly chic” is an evolving process and I’ve *just* gotten to the point where I’ve begun to enjoy it

Anyway, didn’t mean to bore you guys. This outfit has a high happiness factor / confidence factor for me. And I promised myself that when that happenned, it would be the first WIW I would post.

The jeans are Old Navy (sweetheart style). The top and topper are old (don’t remember where I got them). I do remember not liking the way the bra peeks through the shoulder - but get by with a topper for now. The shoes were a cheapie Amazon find since I didn’t own any ankle booties and wanted to check out how they would look without a big investment.
My price point for clothes and shoes is much lower than most pieces shown on YLF. But coming to YLF showed me that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to feel stylish. You guys have been such a big part of how I dress for about the last year or so, I feel as though I’ve found my tribe.

I think you’re really hitting the effortless chic vibe you’re after. You’ve included some subtle styling (the cuffed jeans, jewelry) that we can all recognize but that probably just reads as chic and polished to the people in your day to day life. A great outfit. I really like your top without the jacket because the neckline is so elegant. So great to see you posting and don’t reserve the posts for the 10/10 outfits because you will find that you get such great feedback on how to improve those outfits that don’t feel quite so good. This look is indeed chic!

Thanks for sharing your outfit with us! You've certainly met your goal of effortless chic! Those are a great pair of jeans and nicely styled with the cuff roll. Fashion can be found at all price points and you don't have to rush out and buy every time you get some fashion inspiration. I make a game of recreating inspiring outfits from items already in my closet.

Hooray for your first WIW and for finding your tribe! You look great; can't go wrong with black and denim in my book. Do you have a racerback bra, or a bra with straps that convert to cross-back? I've had a couple sleeveless tops like this, that sit really close to my neck, and once I realized I could switch up the straps on some of my bras, I wore them a lot more often.

Also, I am a big fan of the try-a-cheap-version-first approach. My go-to's are eBay, local thrift stores, and Uniqlo. Sometimes the cheap version ends up being the best one anyway!

@cardiff girl - it was SO nerve wracking, my husband finally suggested posting without my face in the pic, on an effort to make it less so. Eventually I hope to include my face in the pics. Taking baby steps.

@la pedestrienne - I kept thinking I needed a racer back or strapless bra to wear this top without a topper. But I could totally convert some of the bras I have to become racerbacks (with those handy clip thingamy doodads). It would open up so many items in my closet.

I think you look awesome and you immediately made me feel better about my $14.50 jeans I got at an outlet store recently and have already worn 6 times. I have been rolling the cuffs which I don't usually do.
Yours look great with your boots. And like Bijou I love the look without the topper as you have such nice jewellery.
As far as bra straps showing, I never liked it until I saw a woman from one of my 2 jobs, who I really like and always looks as though she has "just stepped out of a bandbox" ( old-fashioned phrase I had to explain to her) who had a racerback tank with normal bra straps showing. They were prettty straps and she still looked so put together! A skill of hers I think... but those pull-together clip things could indeed be useful to you. I don't own any but maybe should since bra straps occas show with sleeveless dresses.

You look polished and in a not trying too hard way - just perfect. Welcome and keep posting, any way you are comfortable. A paperclip is a great hack for a converting to a racerback.

Congratulations on your first wiw! I like the second one best, and do the headless wiws too (creepy facial recognition technology). My budget is very low too (0 at present), which just means having to make the best possible choices !

I’m another one who will often try a new trend inexpensively. Actually, sometimes those frugal experimental pieces hold up really well over time.
