My favorite things: recipe for disaster?

Waist surrendering top: check.
Slouchy BF jeans: check.
Rolled cuffs: check.
High vamp studded Danskos: check.

Is it possible to come up with a more unflattering formula? I feel like so much of what I love is within the edgy but not so flattering range. And here I am wearing them together, because my DH and DS have gone to Denali camping for 3 days and left me to my own devices!

The neckline of the top may be an extra problem - I feel a bit like this dude from Bugs Bunny (talk about an IT!):

OMG Una you crack me up with the furry red IT guy! I love your outfit...only you could pull off what sounds like on paper to be frumpy. But it totally works because all the pieces are so you! And you're so edgy you can pull off what could potentially be unflattering on others. Can you imagine me wearing your outfit--baggy low crotch boyfriend jeans and grey waist surrender top? I think I'd look like a sack of potatoes, whereas you look edgy-cool!

I think you look adorable! I would love it even more if the black top were longer, I think. But it's so "Una," and how could that not be fab?

I think it looks great on you! The fact that the gray sweater is cropped so I can see a little of the top underneath still gives you a waistline.

If you break your outfit out it sounds very unflattering in theory but reality beats the theory this time. I think it is a very cool outfit Una and so very you!

I do see a lot of shoulder with this top, but I am sensitive to shoulders.

You definitely pull off all the volume, cuffs, and high vamp, though!

Rae, I see that too. I think a different neckline would help - this feels a bit like a poncho.

Natalie, you are too funny. Your comment makes me wonder if we are predisposed to like or not like something depending on how we see that person's personality or sttyle. Do you think people would find this same outfit "wrong" on you if we didn't "know" your style beforehand?

And conversely, are people liking it on me because they know it IS my style?

Of course, that's a relevant part of any look Once Angie explained that her K ratings are based on each person's specific style (therefore, a K on Natalie might be a fail on me), I understood much better why I couldn't and shouldn't try to wear everything I saw and loved on other YLFers.

Like everyone has mentioned, by your description of each piece, this outfit shouldn't work and yet it does. Because you wear it with style and confidence. I really think that confidence is key to wearing any look - you own it.

If I sit and stare at your shoulders in this picture, then I notice shoulders. But I don't because my eyes are noticing all of the interesting parts of the outfit that come together. I think a lower scoop or v-neck would help this but it still works.

So since your men are away, what are you going to wear tomorrow???

Did you know the red guy's name is Gossamer? Neither did I, but Google did! As for this outfit working despite the rule breaking, I don't know why it does but it does. I think your shoulders are what make it work in this case - I see them as an asset. Another thought - is there any way you can get your entire shoe in the picture? I think it would be easier to see what is happening that way.

I agree totally about what's killer for one is not necessarily killer all around . . . it took me many failed attempts at copying other YLFers fab looks

When I feel an outfit is emphasizing my shoulders, I like to wear a long necklace to bring the focus away. I see that you are wearing one, but it blends into the print of the blouse. Do you have one that stands out more? A neon citron first comes to mind.

I think it looks really good too but I am also sensitive to the shoulder issue. I think the problem to me is that the sleeves end at the widest point of the chest creating a wider block on top which adds to the expanse of shoulder. Does that make sense?

It seems that only those of us who worry about footballer shoulders even notice it but it isn't enough to make me not like the whole ensemble.

I totally dig this look, Una. Bulkier sweaters are awesome and aren't going to be the most flattering piece ever. Period. No matter body type/shape.

On a LOL note: this was a hilarious bit on Bugs Bunny....he said: "Now dip your paddies in the water...." (cue mouse traps on the tips of the monster's fingers). #childhoodmemories
