I’m so sorry I didn’t respond more to my edit post. The day I posted it our dog Farley had a prolonged seizure. He has continued to have partial seizures and ataxia (gait abnormalities) and the vet says he most likely has a brain tumor. The closest doggie neurologist with openings is three hours from here so he said we should try putting him on anti seizure meds and seeing if they help. Dogs with tumors typically don’t respond. He’s 13 years old, so we aren’t going to have him go through chemotherapy, or surgery. I think that’s hard on anyone, and unfair for our dog who is anxious at his baseline. The vet says there’s only a small chance it’s something else because of the associated symptoms. My poor pup! The vet says he could be getting bad headaches but because we are already treating him aggressively with pain meds for arthritis he probably isn’t suffering. Are we wrong to try to prolong his life until our children can get home for their winter breaks? That would mean about 2.5 more months. I am so torn about what to do.
