I’m not sure what to make of these . They look gigantic next to the sneakers I have on today . They are perhaps a size too big , but of course now I won’t know until I order a smaller pair . Grr. Are they just too clunky looking ? I also have to think carefully about how much wear they will get - and if it’s even worth having such “ fussy” boots . It’s more the cream leather that I worry about showing every bit of dirt than the rubber sole which I *can* clean easily . There’s no way I’d wear them in snow or wet conditions of any kind and I can’t wear them to work - so am I purchasing for a life I don’t lead ?

They are SO luxe and beautifully made tho ! And the price is quite nice ! Those of you who have the Sam Edelman NAS boot in ivory - how / when do you plan to wear them ?

It’s a shame you can’t wear them to work, because they seem like they’d be great for that. Could you list out some occasions when you -would- wear them, and then decide from there if that’s enough to justify the purchase?

Style-wise, I think they’re spot-on for you, so the only real question is practicality.

I really like them and would actually wear them in the rain, but not dirty snow/slush season. All transitional footwear like this gets very limited wear in my (Toronto) climate so it’s kinda become a matter of want rather than need and I accept that for the items I love. I do find having footwear that keeps me high & dry in the rain is useful.
I’m a bit confused tho, are they Sam Edelman from Nordstrom or something else?

I think they’re big so you can wear socks with them.

I fear you might wear them twice and find them hard to clean and then be telling us “only second wear and I hate them”. I worry about the practicality.

Jules - there is a Sam E boot combat featured on NAS in a similar colour way that several YLF’rs have bought . Mine are Simon’s private label .

Ah Simons, I see I’ve had mixed experiences with their quality but sounds like these are a winner. I don’t see cream leather as that difficult to keep clean. I’d just stay on top of it, accept that they won’t be worn as frequently as some others, and enjoy every wearing.

So, i know that I don’t live in a place with a deep real winter, but i do live in a place with a lot of messy streets and sidewalks (because we get a lot of slushy weather and no one ever really cleans it up)…anyway, i got white boots last year and wore them hard for real outdoor walking, and really i just wiped them off and they look great..(admittedly they were Sorel’s so made for winter, but still). I’m not expecting the SE to be as hard wearing as the Sorels, but as they are water resistant, i do think a quick wipe down and they should be pretty good…
are these water resistant?

No, I don’t think they are . The more I think about it , the more I think they are too precious for my lifestyle. If I could wear them indoors at work it would be a diff story , but I can’t so ….

Those almost seem taupe to me in the pic, not an almost-white ivory. Maybe that helps with the cleaning factor?
I was on the fence with the white booties I got at NAS for similar practicality reasons (we get muddy, not slushy here) but I will have plenty of dry days and driving days to wear them. I wear white sneakers the same way, and keep them very clean. The tan SE boots will be for those wet days.

You’re right - PP - these are a taupey cream shade . They aren’t smooth leather though - they’re a very soft ( ah , what’s the term I want ? ) almost sueded finish . You’re not concerned with the SE boots getting spotted and dirty ? I guess I don’t have a lot of experience caring for light coloured footware .

Lisa, I have a gray water resistant bootie from Ugg with a similar suede finish that I wear hard and that wipes clean really well - but admittedly these new booties are lighter in color.

J’adore! I have the same concerns about light color boots. Although there are some dry days in any winter and fall. Maybe it will be enough to justify the purchase?
My other issue is that I don’t know how to style it. What would you wear with these boots ( on the bottom)?

Putting color aside, to me the Simon’s shoe is more of a high-top sneaker while SE falls into the “combat” boot category, which makes them hard to compare

I guess my questions would be how do you see a cream high-top leather sneaker working with the bottoms you will would wear during your season for such a shoe? And do you have a reasonable chance of keeping a sueded-finish leather sneaker clean enough during that season?

Caring for a soft-leather, light-colored sneaker isn’t the same as caring for a heavier leather boot. You can put a sneaker in the washing machine, but I’d never try that with a combat-style boot!

ETA: Forgot to say that I really like the sneakers because they remind me of a pair of high-top leather Ecco sneakers which I wore into the ground here on the Coast. They were a light cognac color which paired well with my jeans and fall/winter/spring bottoms. I used a water-proofing spray on them to make them somewhat water resistant—and, yes, I did wash them in the machine a couple of times when they got too dirty.

I’d say go for the sneakers if they work for your wardrobe…just don’t think of them as a replacement for a full on boot.

Gaylene - these are all the issues I’m sorting through . They do look more like a high top sneaker but are heavier than that . They aren’t meant to compare style wise with the SE combat style…..rather this is my preferred version of that boot in terms of a pale coloured boot and I’m interested in how those who bought an equally high maintenance boot are going to care for them . I’m interested in these because I’m working on a substantial cream collection of everything, and thought they’d be great with cream jeans or joggers , olive green sweats , that sort of thing . Probably not blue denim because of dye transfer issues . Maybe a washable leather Converse would be better . These just look so much chicer;) ‘

I hate to be a stick in the mud, but I’m with Jenni on these. I seem to remember you bought white and light snakeskin footwear in the past and then dispatched them after limited wears because you were having trouble styling them. Maybe this time is different - since you are building a cream/taupe capsule?

Ooh, those are gorgeous, and they look like your style.

They remind me of my off-white leather high-top sneakers, which I love. I found myself reaching for them a lot more than I thought I would. (I was concerned because I often don't like the look of white footwear on my feet, and I have a knack for ruining light colored or fragile footwear pretty quickly. And in fact, I did scuff the toe of one, but it's not that noticeable, and I figure, that's my life.) For me, they are for spring/fall, and I don't find them as fussy. I've even worn them to ride my town bike (which has flat pedals and for which I wear street shoes, not biking shoes). I do wear mine with jeans, rolled up, and have no issues with dye transfer.

It sounds like you have a lot of ideas for how you'd wear them, and they are a good addition to your cream complement. I'd vote keep!

Back to ask: are they nubuck? If so, they might be more difficult to keep clean than smooth leather. I would think twice in that case.

A bit late here - sounds like you've been processing this pretty thoroughly by now.

I do like them but you have good reasons to try something more practical.

I've moved away from my all black 'n grey style and have added several cream items (not shoes though).
"Column of cream" is fun to wear - something sophisticated and casual about it.

I have white leather boots and love them and wear my boots with everything, dresses, jeans, pants. My boots in Finds are a sneaker boot, but more embellished than yours which makes them perfect for my style. I knew as soon as I laid eyes on them that they were perfect for me and had no hesitation about whether they would fit into my wardrobe. I have never owned a pair of white or cream boots that did not become workhorses.

Like Jenni and Carla, I am worried that you may not wear these cream boots because:
1. You have not loved light boots previously;
2. The suede may be hard to keep clean;
3. Your window of wear may be short, given that your climate seems to go from summer to snow in the blink of an eye;
4. It is true that visually chunky white boots make your feet look larger, you would have to embrace that fact. When worn in a column of colour, it minimises the big foot look.
My vote for you is return and not suffer from buyers remorse.

I have shoes/boots that look like monsters side by side a more dainty pair. You need to look at them in the context of an entire outfit. That said, I considered the SE's but couldn't imagine me actually wearing them much. But these would go brilliantly with your cream wide leg jeans. In short, make a few outfits then decide.

I like them (and I’d like to see a smaller size) but your climate is similar to mine and honestly, I’d never wear them once the bad weather arrives…especially if they are difficult to clean or not waterproof. But I have a low tolerance for dirty shoes that goes back to babyhood, according to my mother

I love white and light coloured boots on other people. When they are on my feet they seem huge to me. I am not buying light footwear anymore.

Lots of thoughtful replies, and I appreciate them all. Thank you those who reminded me of past white footwear purchasing mistakes. I have considered that experience as well. To that point, I now see that white anything is really not for me. I look and feel much better in cream/ivory, which works better with the warm tones I favour. White footwear was just too stark and high contrast . The only exception to this "rule" is for white sneakers. I will ALWAYS have a few of those in my closet .

I got very caught up in trying to find some sort of shoe or boot to wear with cream jeans/chinos/cargos/joggers/sweatpants this fall , and I now think I'm barking up the wrong tree. The design of these Simon boots were so perfect for me, and the quality of the construction (leather lined, padded leather tongue , removable insole etc) really grabbed me. BUT, I think they are ultimately going to be too fussy . I have a serious poison eye for dirty shoes . And yes, they are nubuck (the word I couldn't come up with earlier ) which is so , so easy to mark up and show water droplets.

I've decided to return them and keep my eyes open for something easier to care for.

Very pretty! I can't handle such lovely light colored boots - usually destroy all my footwear with casual walking and being a bit clumsy ;( .
I don't find them too big - more fall style for the use of different socks/insoles ( mine probably look the same - accommodating the swelling of the feet after long hours ).

What Jaime said. I like the look of nubuck very much — always have — but I wonder about cleaning that color/texture combination. I think a styling session will help you decide whether you are likely to reach for these.
