Here's my bold reply: Nude hose (of the correct shade for the individual) are not frumpy when worn in the correct season with the correct footwear. They ARE frumpy if all the above are not taken into account.

And I dislike wearing hose, period. But that is another issue!

Ha - bold indeed! I'd been startled when shocks reverberated through the fashion world at the sight of Kate Middleton (Duchess Catherine, sorry) wearing nude hose everywhere last summer. !?! I remember my former MIL admonishing me that "you are not fully dressed until you're wearing hose!" so the brouha was surprising to me. Heh heh. I think the "frumpy" idea comes from thinking of that low-quality, thick, snag-filled pantyhose of days gone by. Negative association. Ultra sheer, high quality sheer hose is fine - and elegant - when I see it worn with pumps. I agree with Suz - with open-toed shoes and sandals...eh, not so great. And ESPECIALLY with reinforced toe - whoops!

I can't see any kind of hose in the summer (way too hot), but I will admit that the idea of nude hose not being seen as frumpy is very appealing to me! I've gotten away from the opaque tights, and was wearing sheer/patterned black hose last year. Thing is? Sometimes those dark colours don't always work.

If nude hose are back in - then this means extending the season-span of certain dresses and skirts. Some of my dresses don't look right with dark-coloured hose, and as such - they are only for spring/summer. But then again, some of these same dresses would be perfectly suitable in the fall and winter, except for the hose/no-hose issue.

Nude hose gives me flashbacks to That Other Bank I used to work at, where I was more conservative and could not dress UWP or SGT. If I can break that association, I'd gladly wear my nude hose again for Fall.

I agree with Suz 1000%!

I am not a fan, personally, but there are some times when a good, and I emphasize good, pair of hosiery elevates an outfit. Usually for me, that means evening wear.

Oh yes, the great nude hose debate!! I wear them, and without concern for what the fashion world thinks. It takes a lot of effort to find the right hose that don't remind me of those that used to come in the egg-shaped containers, and it costs some money to get really good ones. But I make the effort. I actually enjoy how they look, and I can tell you that my feet appreciate them. For me, in the heat and humidity of where I live, there is something so very uncomfortable about my feet rubbing in my closed-toe dress shoes all day long.

I hate wearing hose. I am such a klutz that I always end up with runs. So I almost never wear hose with dresses/skirts--if I do it's patterned hose in the winter to add texture to my outfit (holes and all).

I think it's more the outfit than the hose that determines frumpiness. And Kate is certainly bringing nude hose back to the forefront!

Nude hosiery triggers a memory (on me!) of wearing tan hosiery to give a little color. Yikes! Terrible look, I shudder! Oh, but you are talking about NUDE hosiery. I agree with Suz!

I don't ever really have the need or occasion to wear them but like everything else, i'm sure nude hose have come a long way. I remember wearing some called suntan that were almost orange, haha. Good times.

You definitely rocked those super-sheer hose (shown perfectly in the site background) but I think it can be so tricky to find just the right shade and I think they suit a particular style (dressy, ladylike) better than others. But I agree that the more diversity and options the merrier :).

Just to be clear: if it's too hot to wear nude hose - leave it off! But if you want to wear it - WEAR IT.

I personally can't stand nude hose on myself. Hate hose in general. But I've never had a problem with other people wearing it, and I had no idea it was out of style at any point.

I wore nude hose (with pencil and knee high boots) before I fell into SAHM land and totally lost all style / fashion / trend knowledge. When I fianally came back, it was sooo dated and frumpy and I just wondered what happened.

I support HelenIn Canada "Ultra sheer, high quality sheer hose is fine - and elegant ". It all comes down to applying a NUDE look (not tan or anything else)

Playing quite safe in my style baby steps journey, I've been sticking mostly to opaque black, purple and grey.

Summer in Norway can be chilly, so hose is (almost) always ok here, though I love bare skin and sandals

I totally forgot to go to look at hose at Nordstrom yesterday and meant to (those new fishnets Angie posted about are on my check it out list).
What brands/styles of nude hose are people wearing (if anyone could import the Japanese hose we would appreciate it!).

I like nude hose if it's the right tone for the individual. And I still like black hose or a lighter tight in fall instead of a dark, opaque.

Whew! I hate, hate, hate the slippery feeling of my bare feet in close toed shoes, plus at my age the softened airbrushed look of hosiery looks much better than bare legs. I've always hated control tops, however, and let-it-all-hang-out hosiery tops are sometimes a challenge to find.

I should have added this to my fashion things I wear regardless of if they are in. I confess to LOVE nude hose. I have only started not wearing them in the total heat of summer and when I have open toes because I fear the mockery of my inner voice and coworkers (not that they would ever do this). I love the feel of control tops (again right size right shade) for some support and confidence I don't look too jiggly.

I just hope it never becomes frumpy to go sans hose during a hot Phoenix summer! I loved seeing Kate Middleton in her sheer, shimmery, perfect match nude hose last summer. I'm guessing it would cost a pretty penny to buy some that don't make my legs look like a barbequed potato chip.

I like nude hose so I'm glad to see it's back!

However, I do associate it with dressy or formal outfits. I've seen it worn in much more casual ways (like with denim shorts or minis) and can't wrap my head around this look.

After witnessing this strange sight at the weekend I would like to recommend not wearing your nude hose with toe post thong sandals. It looks both odd and dangerous for your circulation.

YAY, for nude hose being acceptable again, however, I could never sport the look as a nude hose mutes my tattoos to the point they look like bruises

I think nude is great when it matches your skintone (or semi-matches). I don't get much chance to wear hose here in Georgia. But my best friend (a born and bred Georgia Peach) recently moved to Wisconsin and is discovering the wonderful world of hose.
