Mules are the heels of 2014

Anna had started a thread "Mules are back!" earlier this year, http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....s-are-back.

According to today's post by blogger Hedvig of "The Northern Light" mules will be the heels of 2014. Personally I love the ease and comfort of mules so I am good with this. Interesting to see if they do in fact trend up.

Claudia, thanks for sharing this. I read the title and thought " oh no". But these are a very refined take on 'mules'. Waiting to see if it pans out.

I really do not like these shoes... they come back around every few years or so. no matter how polished they are, I always feel short and frumpy in them.

Interesting, modgrl. I like them a lot under flares/bootcuts, and the sandals and kitten heel pump style mules (or slides) I use to wear with skirts and dresses seemed to lengthen the leg line because of the extra skin exposed.

Now that I have embraced shooties and booties with skirts and dresses over the past few years, these newer style mules shown above are very appealing to me and look to be more flattering.

That's right, Claudia. Mules have been fringe trending for about two years - very fringe trending. I wish they weren't all so high heeled, although the high heel offsets the "stumpy factor" Rita is concerned with. I like the looks you posted on the models. Refined and chic.

The Western Mule has kept on going forever, and is never out of style.

I'm not sure how I feel about mules yet. I wore the Western addition in the late '80s and early '90s. I can't bear the look with socks at all. Not sure they are practical for fast walking me.

I have a hunch that this new style of mule will stay fringe - but we will see.

I have one pair in my holding zone from a few years ago. They are not quite this refined but maybe I'll wear them again since they look good with bootcuts.

They're not the most comfortable thing in the world. For someone with narrow-ish feet, they tend to slip off too easily while walking.

Janet, I have a holdover pair, too, in the Tahoe closet. I keep them because they are so easy in the winter, but mine happen to be brown which I don't really wear anymore. They may have to be rehomed.

I am saying no ... then again you never know. But mules never made sense to me. If it's cold enough to have your toes covered, you want the back of your foot covered too.

I really like that pointy-toed styles are coming back in. Always loved those. Feel like a dainty elf in them.

Mules address the slipping heel issue but bring in the twisted ankle issue. . . .We can't win can we, LOL?

My feet ache just looking at them. I remember trying to wear them in the early 2000s and getting terrible foot cramps from clenching my toes to keep them on my feet. I can safely say that if mules come back, that is a trend I won't indulge in.

I like the pics of the mules that you have posted, they are fine if most of the foot is covered, as these are, or if there are straps going across, but again high up (if you know what I mean). The mules I don't like are the ones that have one little strap, are heeled and slap the sole of your foot with each step.

Yes, I don't recommend running down a cobblestone road or sidewalk in mules. I have narrow heels and a very high arch/instep so as long as I can get my foot into a pair, mules stay on very well and are comfortable for my foot type.

I love regular strappy, dressy shoes, but really dislike fussing with those tiny buckles putting them on and taking them off so the big benefit for me is the ease of just slipping mules on and off. And I do like they way they look.

In the past I didn't have clog-like or western type mules, mine were more of a dainty and dressy style mule.

I remember back in the heyday of mules in the 90s I had more than one incident where I accidentally flung my shoe across the room. And they were always the big clunky 90s type, so it was always loud and embarrassing if it happened in a restaurant or the bus or something! Walking in them was always a nightmare (remember, we are talking about me here, who can't even keep pumps on her feet. Narrow heels AND shallow instep.).

So, yeah, this is all to say that I don't think I'll be taking part in the mules trend if it comes back into style.

I love those plaid mules. Very updated, not at all a '90s flashback. Not exactly walking shoes, tho. I'm always thinking of giving away my clogs for that reason.

Only way I ever wore them back when they were in was flat black ones with black socks. Will never wear them again. Just because it is the trend doesn't mean we have to like it or wear it!

Interesting. I like the slip on ease of mules, but my feet are always sliding around in them so I stick to shoes with a heel in the back.

They look cool on the models. But for me, these particular ones would be tricky, with that heel height and the narrow heel -- I think I'd end up catching in a sidewalk or slipping out of the shoe and twisting an ankle. Plus the high vamp is stumpifying to me. Alas....

I do agree they can be easier to fit especially for those with a higher instep and narrow heel (that's me, too). And I love the easy on - off of them.

I have two pairs which I would have let go except that they were very expensive and I figured they'd be back. Mine are lower heeled and open toed so they likely will come back in a new incarnation like the posted photo.

Impossible to walk in. I wore my "party" ones in Las Vegas when I knew we didn't have to walk far. One fell off in the road and the limo driver picked it up and brought it to me like I was Cinderella. Since then I have always walked around more when trying on shoes.

I had a closed toe version in the 90's and they were a disaster too. Wouldn't stay on. Think I'd learn...

Ugh. A decade ago I swore off any shoes that didn't have backs. I always walked out of them, caught my foot in cracks, etc. Life is too short.

I can see the visual appeal of the ones in the photo, as far as fashion goes - gives a different shape to the foot.

My feet can't handle these. My toes have to work too hard to keep them on which aggravates my arthritis. But I have liked some of the styles in past years and will be eager so see how others implement them.

I can't walk in mules to save my life! Actually, other than flip flops, shoes that flop when I walk just throw me off completely. I can't even wear those clogs with open backs!
