Moto jackets as non-outerwear?

So of course it's below 0 here and will be in the -15 range for the next week or so. :-\

I have not had the chance to wear my moto jackets or other outerwear-type jackets at all and probably won't until May! Do any of you wear them as part of an outfit, UNDER a winter jacket, or are they always something you would take off indoors (meaning office or home or store)?

I know tht Angie wears her black moto jacket under heavier outerwear. She commented about it in a blog entry about her first meet-up with YLF members in New York. I don't have the right leather jacket to do this but do it with boyfriend blazers, a short dressy trench with leather belt and numerous other light jackets.

Yes- I wear mine this way under my coat and as part of my outfit all winter long. It's actually a big consideration in finding a coat that will allow me to do this.

Yes, I do too. I have a few pictures from last year and I am also wearing one today. I took a picture this morning but it is still in the camera. I will post a few pictures for you tonight when I get home.

I will wear leather moto/cropped jackets as inside wear now. I wear them as a blazer alternative. I have one down puffer that fits comfortably over that much bulk. I still feel like the Michelin man, but that's part of the 'delight' of winter. . . :-\

I do wear my jacket/blazer indoors as well. I haven't yet tried layering them under a winter jacket as it doesn't usually get lower than 30's here and I'm just dashing from car to indoors.

Yep! I wear jackets a lot as indoor wear, otherwise they would get shoved aside until spring, and that would make me sad :(.

I too wear mine both as inner and outer wear; I'm wearing one today, in fact, and I treat them like others who have said they treat them like blazers.

I get pretty odd looks from the family when I wear my moto at home (i.e. don't take it off when I get home because I'm too cold to switch to a sweater!)...if you work in an office you might have better luck.

I layer both my biker jackets underneath my coats (wool and puffer). Works like a charm. I take my leather jackets off at home, but keep them on everywhere else.

I do this too. I think it helps to have a jacket that looks like a jacket and not a coat, if that makes sense. Mine is very cropped and only worn open, so it would be silly to wear as outerwear. A more blazer-like jacket would work too.

Yes, me too. I am constantly colder than the average person, even indoors, so I appreciate having a jacket when I'm inside to add some warmth. I especially like to wear them under my rain trench coat as long as the liner is taken out - I don't like the friction of the liner against the fabric of a jacket.

I usually didn't but I'll start to.By accident I found out that having a jacket/vest/blazer under a puffer or a coat makes you look more put together indoors and the layers are much warmer outdoors.

i don't have that much opportunity but i wear Jackets i like it..In my view i don't think that Moto jackets as non-outerwear they look like just wears thats it..

Yes! If I didn't wear them under coats, I would never have an opportunity to wear them, as our weather just doesn't cooperate. In my mind, it needs to be 55-65 and not precipitating to wear a moto jacket as outerwear. And that happens about two days a year in Chicago!

It's never really cold enough here to layer under a winter jacket but I wear my moto jackets inside all the time. It's part of the outfit.
