More from Ireland & Hello Amsterdam

Yesterday B. and I left Ireland to venture to Amsterdam, so I thought I'd wrap up with some more Ireland pics while introducing Amsterdam, too.

1. Dromoland Castle, 5 star accommodations in an honest to goodness castle. I felt like I was living in Downton Abbey.

2. I've been wearing this a lot during warm weather: Classiques Entier shell, knit pencil skirt, pewter gladiators.

3. Glassblowing at Waterford Crystal

4-6: Souvenirs from Ireland

7. Up a narrow windy staircase waiting to kiss the Blarney Stone (you do this bending over backwards suspended above the ground, and yes, I kissed the stone in a Leifsdottir top and pencil skirt.)

8. Amsterdam panorama: the canals are gorgeous, and every bridge is covered with bicycles. Locals bike in EVERYTHING, many in dresses, and everywhere (even when a tram is coming) without a helmet in sight.

9. Enjoying savory crepes, same outfit as in #2.

10. In Dam Square, jeans, pewter loafers, and mint/cream birdie sweater.

B's personal highlight was golfing at the Old Head course, a very posh private club: http://www.oldhead.com/
(I'm no golfer so I went to Waterford instead.)

It is truly a once in a lifetime trip. So fun to experience this together; B's never been outside of North America before (save Hawaii) and I've been to Europe but not to any of the places we've been. I don't know if we will ever be able to take 15 days off work at the same time as we are doing now, but wow, SO worth it!!! We feel our luck, especially in that we had a group of 32 friends/family with us in Ireland, and all got along; it was a fantastic group to travel with.

Almost have tears in my eyes - your happiness and enjoyment are so evident in these pics. Funny how clothes and style can make us happy - and yet the reverse is also true - being happy can make the clothes truly sing.

Hope you're having a *wonderful* time. So glad you're off on this trip, having fun - especially after the move, the job change and so on. You deserve this amazing vacation that you're on!

Thanks! Very much an adventure where we've both been willing to try new things. I mentioned this in the OT happy things thread, but I was also tickled pink that B's niece and nephew glommed onto me during the trip-it's quite nice to be wanted and liked!

B's young niece also quizzed me on our plans for the future:
M (B's niece): Are you and B married yet?
Kari: No, not yet!
M: Good, because I want to make sure I am at the wedding.
K: If we got married, you'd ABSOLUTELY be invited!
M: Do you know when you'll get married?
K: No, right now we are happy being boyfriend and girlfriend.
M: Why don't you know? Oh, that's right, HE has to ask YOU!
K: Giggles
M: Has he given you a ring? I think it would be cool if he asked you in Ireland!
And does he have to ask your dad first?

Pressure is on from the next generation!

A couple more snaps from Amsterdam today:
Waiting outside the Van Gogh museum in gladiators, an emerald skirt, and turquoise tee with coral dachshunds, and Dutch-style mint tea with actual mint that I enjoyed at breakfast. It's starting to sprinkle just a tad.

Love your photos - the weather looks great and you look like you are having such a good time. I love Amsterdam such a tiny little city but it has a great vibe & you can walk everywhere. Hubby & I will be there in Sep/Oct catching up with my bro so I hope the good summer weather extends into Autumn.

A few more to add from our wanderings around the city. Today, sadly, is the final day of our trip. We are waiting at the Anne Frank house and enjoyed the most delicious ham and cheese croissants. Haven't had a bad pastry yet here.

Amsterdam is such a fascinating juxtaposition between the gritty and the sophisticated. It's the flotsam and jetsam littering the streets after Saturday night, and it's the freshly cleaned streets on Sunday morning. It's the immense treasure trove of art in the museums as well as the "coffee shops" on every corner. And such a melting pot of nationalities, both from locals and tourists!

We love it and hope to return someday.
