Modern vest suggestions

So Angie and Anna voted one of my two vests not modern enough. Does anyone have suggestions for a modern vest and modern vest looks? I think it would really add some options to my current closet and give me a bit of menswear spin. But I am at a loss for what the "right" vest would be.... I was actually looking for a sleeveless blazer like Parsley's, to wear like a jacket in spring and summer.

I don't know if they are modern enogh or matches YLF expectations and your style but I have 2 almost the same, last year buys, one in black and one in ivory shown in nr. 3 and 4 http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....pring-2014

They are a great structured enough material, tailored enough for flatering the figure but are kind of sporty, a dressier cargo style-with dramatic collar with deco tie, and some moderate rutches, studs and great zippers on front and also have pockets so kind of RATE to me! Still, I styled them to my beloved office pencils, and dresses. Will see if can provide a link just to see it better (but it's an EU brand).

The only ones that I've liked are VERY expensive. Plus a lot of them were in white.

ETA: Wait, I see it's only in really small sizes. It runs pretty loose, though.

I could try white but I don't want expensive until I'm sure it will be a good addition to the closet... Also hoping to do something non-Moto as I have so many Moto items!

Yep, the kenneth cole is the one I was lusting after too. Living vicariously through you (hopefully) and Shannon.

Plus it comes in reg and petite so you can try both Just sayin'

Yep - I'm pondering the Kenneth Cole white vest. In fact, I've posted a thread http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....e-vest-fit to ask Angie about size and fit since vests are a new thing for me and this whole "fluid" thing has me wondering.

Is this one modern? I tried it on the other day and almost bought it, but it's not on my list so I left it. I really liked the sheer side panels and the high/low hemline. It was low enough to cover my backside.

That is really similar to the black one I got... I don't know. Perhaps it's in the wearing? I thought I was going with the power of classics but maybe that doesn't work for me and my style.

I am wondering about this, too, since I would like one as well. I ordered the Calvin Klein one that Shannon linked to in her other thread, but fear it will prove no good. Maybe Zara is a place to look?

Following closely. I dont exactly understand what about the Halogen one doesnt read modern enough (the waist defining darts perhaps?... although build plays a factor in that too I think) so Ill be checking back to try to fine tune my eye. I like Kenneth Cole one a lot and said the same on Shannon's post.

I still like menswear vests styles! But would like something more modern.
Interested in the 3rd item, that has no sleeves, to layer over a drapey T perhaps.

Shamelessly bumping my own thread to see if anyone has more thoughts or vest suggestions.

And a corollary question: is possible for the same item to be modern for one style but not for another? Or is this vest just not a good vest?

Yup; I'm following this too. I just ordered the navy Trouve that Pastrygirl linked to as well as Una's black Halogen vest. I also have Parsley's BCBGeneration vest on my Amazon Wish List as I would take an XS which is still available. Finally, I have Shannon's cream Kenneth Cole on my Nordstrom Wish List as it is a bit more than I really want to pay but is my favorite. I'm not a total lemming as I had all on my list except for the Amazon one! It is not a priority of mine to be on trend, but I suppose it wouldn't be too great to look like I am behind the times.

Finally: Una is an IT, Shannon is an Adorable Apple, and I am (I think) a sloping shouldered Hourglass with Pear tendencies. We are all close in height. It will be interesting to see how this all turns out!
