Hi all

The cold weather has arrived here and I’ve pulled out my tall boots and woollen jackets.

Over the last few years I’ve been putting together a small collection of metallic tops. The one I’m wearing here is a dark greenish-gold. It feels amazingly soft on the skin. I feel like I’m wearing molten gold.

I had some shopping to do and I needed to carry some larger items (to return), so I carried my copper and gold ombre metallic tote as well as my bronze crossbody bag. I quite liked the mixed metal and double strap effect of wearing the 2 bags crossbody.

To continue the mixed metal theme, I wore a mixture of silver, gold and brass brooches.

True story: everywhere I went I set off the store security buzzers.

Fash, thanks. The top is viscose elastane labelled “extra fine, soft touch”. Metallic tops are often a bit scratchy, no? Not this one. I like it so much I got another in pink(!)

Thanks Pirouette. I thought about a fifth brooch because I think groups in odd numbers usually look better, but my lapels were full up. I think those brooches were responsible for the security breach.

Mama is proud of your glam glitz! Good dual bag strategy, and brooch cluster too.

The metallic olive gold looks awesome on you! KILLER signature look.

Maybe you need to get tan stompy boots and add that metallic shoe polish to them, like you did with your sandals.

Thanks Angie! I don’t know if it’s my favourite weather anymore. I may have switched teams now that my Summer wardrobe is sorted. And I have been thinking about pale metallic boots! I have this pair of boots. But I don’t know if they’d work in a metallic.

My guess is that you need a lighter tan pair to create a fab metallic shine.

Thanks Janet. I like that description: quiet maximal. I tend to think of my style as clean maximal or streamlined maximal, which I think is a similar idea.

Angie, I think you are right. I actually bought a stone coloured pair of tall boots a few years ago and applied a “custom blend” pink metallic polish to them for a dusty metallic pink look. They came out pretty good but I didn’t get to wear them because they have heels and shortly after I got them I hurt my back. Then came the pandemic. I still have them and may eventually give them a whirl for a non-walking event. (They are not super high, but high enough to be unsuitable for serious walking.)

This outfit is so beautiful, again. Didn’t you once say people don’t compliment you on your outfits? (Other than Fabbers, I mean). I find that so strange. Perhaps it is partly that you mostly WFH now so you don’t see as many people as I do. I just feel like strangers should be complimenting you the whole time!
I do love metallic tops too, as you probably know. I have slowed my roll on them though because I wore them a lot for going out to dinner with friends, which I am not doing enough, and I already have some I am not getting a chance to wear

I love a metal finish on everything! Your tops are a great collection and you did a great job by mixing! I find is easier to if the metall finish itself has a base color or a print is mixing them too.

I have been a silver girl for my last 15 yrs (esp ref jewellery) but as a blonde have had some golden tops and a pleated skirt. In fact, I will HAVE to be OK WITH mixing my metals around my face now, too- as my new specs are having pale gold arms-but is not easy for me (my trick is using pearl or crystal studs instead of silver, now.)

Lyn thanks. Nice trick. My trick is to mix more than 2 metal items. It always look better if there’s more than 2. Rule of 3 and all that.

Jenni, that’s a lovely thing to say. It is rare for me to receive compliments. Even when I worked in an office. I did get one on the skirt from an SA on the weekend, but you never know with SA’s if that’s just an ice breaker. You know, you could wear your metallic tops dressed down during the day. Just saying.

Jessi, thanks. I suppose I do think of most of my metallic tops as being more of a cool weather item. But I do have a sleeveless metallic top that I’d wear in warmer weather. Maybe not high summer. I think colour plays a role. A light gold or silver sleeveless metallic would be fine for high summer. But black or brown might feel a bit heavy.

Thanks Jaime. By the end of the day I was just ignoring the buzzers. I figured if someone wanted to stop me and check my bags, I was pretty visible and easy to find.

Angie, mine are about 5 cm high. Block heel. I will try to find an outfit to wear them with! I must admit that I am feeling pretty resistant to anything over 3 cm these days.

Love this Brooklyn! And like Slimcat I think those alarms were a warning that swoon worthy fashion is in the house! The metallic top almost has an olive hue, quite different from the stock photo, is it a bit of a chameleon?
