I'm sorry to put this out here as I know this subject has been discussed ad nauseum here on the forum...and I know I should remember this but I don't: where am I looking for mid-rise cropped wide leg denim? I remember reading about a style from Gap, but all I see on their website are labelled as high-rise. This makes or breaks the wearability for me - are these really high rise? And if so, how are so many of you able to wear them? I am very high waisted, and to get something to button up over my rib cage is just too weird. #clownpants

Are there any other finds or purchases that are going on out there that I might try? - and sorry, Canadian or international chains for me please.

Thanks in advance - I would love to try some.

What you seem to be calling high-waisted, I might be calling short-waisted.

I don't have much of a waist at all -- in other words, less than a hands-breadth between top of hip and bottom of rib cage and it doesn't narrow in much. A lot of denim is calling itself high-waisted lately because that's trendy. However, the fact that some of it actually fits me tells me that it is really more of a mid rise. The truly high waisted stuff (like those Kamm pants) would be about 5 inches too narrow and not button around my rib cage either!

Yes, short waisted is the word I could have used. The Kamm pants are gorgeous, but laughable on me. And about $300 more than I want to spend , too.

What wide leg crops have you bought?

I tried these (GAP wide-leg crop high rise chino) and thought they were pretty flattering but the rise was a little too long for me about 11-12" on a size 8. (That's just a guesstimate, at this point, because I didn't actually take notes.) IIRC, Sterling also tried these pants, so maybe she will chime in.

I have a pair of Levi's on order--the website description says high rise, but they look mid-to-low, to me, so I'm giving them a try.

I tried on the gap high rise ones too, I agree with Emily they were probably 11-12 in (size 10 for me). That worked for me (definitely not clown pants) but I have a very long rise, apparently.

I am definitely high waisted. Both the Gap and the JCrew high waist pants I recently bought hit me below the rib cage at my waist line and are very comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised that they fit so well. I wore the JCrew pants all afternoon around the house to make sure they worked and they passed my comfort test. Now I need to work on styling them.

Lisa, the Gap chinos Emily posted are medium rise, even though the website lists them as high rise (I have them), so they might work for you.

Lisa, Gap has both high rise and med rise wide leg chinos so you may want to try those.

I have bought the Gap jeans (high rise). I'm waiting on a second size to compare. On me (5'4"), these will need hemming to be true crops. On me, they are also high rise, meaning they come up pretty much to my true waist, which is above my belly button.

I am short waisted but I have a loooooong rise. This is why I may need to order up in size because in my usual size, the rise, while high, is perhaps just a titch on the short side in the back, giving me the feeling that I have a wedgie. This is a common problem for me with true high rise pants. I remember it from years ago. It's one reason jeans used to be a nightmare for me to fit throughout the 80s. It was even worse when my waist was narrower because I'd simultaneously have wedgie on the bottom and massive waist gap. Ugh.

I have a slightly different problem with low rise pants (which are often too short); a medium rise is the easiest fit for me because it allows for some "wiggle" to get it in the right spot.

Anyway, despite my reservations, these are pretty flattering, and may stretch to fit perfectly (sometimes that happens) and I got them cheap, so I will likely keep one size or the other to play with, once I decide.

Sveta, I am wondering if the ones that worked for Style Fan might work for you?

Thanks all. The Gap here doesn't have the wide leg crops in denim -never did carry them. I think we must be considered a B market for them . I did see the high rise chinos but I don't even look at anything labelled high-rise. All I want is a pair of cropped wide legged jeans in a regular rise - you'd think this wouldn't be such a hard thing to find, but it is! I guess it's a trend meant for the skinny and/or long bodied. Perhaps it's a message

Thanks Angie, I would, but Zappos doesn't ship to Canada. That's why I'm looking for brands that are either widely sold internationally, or from chains also in Canada. I need to try them on without having to pay for back and forth shipping and returning.

eta: I did find them on amazon though - so if nothing else pops up, I'll give them a try.

Also head to the Gap for a really good price point.

I like my J.Crew's - $35 on sale - but they might feel too stiff for your liking and they bag out on the second day. Size down A LOT. I sized down to a 24 and they are still too big. I popped them into the drier which helped. The faded Raynor wide crops run small though.

We're posting at the same time. As previously mentioned too - Gap are very high waisted unless it's the chino- which are pretty much sold out in larger sizes. And you're looking at amazon.com. This style isn't listed on amazon.ca , unfortunately .

This is proving to be too complicated, and it's a clear message to move on to something more important today - like work It's a trend I can let pass by . It's too bad that more denim companies didn't choose to marry the wide leg crop with a more wearable rise. I swear one day I will open my own store .....

WOW. I forget that shipping to Canada is tricky.

Then your best bet is to head over to Anthro and the Bay, and try on some wide crops - WHEN you feel like it.

They just aren't there, Angie. That is the problem . If they were around at retail, I'd have solved this issue long ago. I am usually sized out at Anthro - at the opposite end - I'm too big. Plus I don't want to pay Anthro pricing for something like this - they are pretty costly here in Cdn $. As I said - I'm over it already. Next.

I had very similar experience today, trying to find wide leg cropped jeans in brick and mortar stores. Except the failed attempt in Gap there was nothing to try on.

To be honest I tried on a zillion pairs before I found one that I didn't have poison eye for. It's not an easy look to adapt to, and it really makes it clear how different each of our bodies are in that waist/hip area. Some made me feel strangely sausage-like, and some felt surprisingly flattering, and there was no predicting from others' experience. Or even from others' reactions to my photos - some folks loved the ones I hated, and vice versa. So individual.

It might become a bigger trend, in which case you might start seeing options in stores near you and you can try them on. Or it might fade out, in which case you're not missing anything!

If you decide to continue trying Lisa, I would suggest that you try on and disregard labels like mid- and high-rise and even rise measurements. The black cropped wide legs that I have from Anthropologie (aka the lint factory pants) were, as I recall, called "ultra high rise," which is laughable for me with my short-waistedness but they fit perfectly. So as much as it pains me to say so, making this trend work may require a lot of trying on. Good luck. I can hear your frustration. You could always move to the US and be closer to me.

What viva said! I've been both amused and frustrated to see that sometimes the EXACT SAME rise will be called mid-rise and ultra-high-rise by the same retailer! I really wish they'd simply provide garment measurements.

After having a meltdown over this whole idea this morning, I was out near the mall anyways (yeah, sure Lisa) so popped into the Gap "just to see". Nope. Nothing cropped, wide legged at all - store was a mess. However......as a last resort, I went up to BR and found cropped wide leg, flat front , regular rise (I know, right? 4/4!) black , polished linen pants. And to make it even better .....THEY FIT! I've been on a starvation diet disguised as a detox and perhaps it's working . Anyways, they weren't on sale, which was a little annoying because everything else was, but I bought them anyways, they are that nice. And then I realized.....I don't want more jeans anyways. I am trying not to wear them so often and would rather have something more polished to wear for work days. I was wearing a black linen blazer and black silk top when I tried them on , and what a great outfit it made. Sometimes all it takes is a great pair of pants to make your day that much better
On me, the pants are a little shorter, which is weird because I'm sure the model is a size 2 and 6 feet tall, but they are the same pant.
