I made this mask for my husband. I offered him several fabrics to choose from. I couldn’t believe he chose this fabric. The fabrics were all scraps leftover from other projects. It looks like half a bra.

Thank you, Joy, Phoebe, Kathie. I asked my husband which bugs he liked, and centered them on the two sides. Here is mine. More insects. I was making little tote bags and bought garden/insect fabric for them.

Oh, dragonflies! Cute! My mom offered to make some for us. She’s digging out her batik quilting fabric, and having fun taking color requests from her grandkids.

Mine’s not as cute, but I didn’t want to cut into a big piece of fabric, I just wanted to use up some scraps. Also my sewing machine was acting up, so all I wanted was to do was get it over with.

Suntiger, batik would be nice. I have a big piece, but didn’t want to cut into it. At this point, I don’t care. Good luck with your machine.

Very nicely done! This looks like a worthy project. It may be time to get out my quilting scraps and dust off the Pfaff! Although I believe I tossed my quilting scraps since I haven’t had time to quilt in years!

I couldn't get my sewing machine to work--can't get the presser foot down. (Vaguely taking it in for repair a decade or more ago...) Anyway, I ended up hand sewing four of them using some thick cotton--I think I bought it ages ago for collars or something. I know I bought it at Britex up in SF. Anywho, they aren't very pretty but they work better than the new sew bandana/rubber band version that I couldn't get to stay in place. I used the instructions in the NY times.

Kelly, Britex! I haven’t been there in years. What a fabulous place. My machine won’t fill the bobbin. I have to wind the thread on by hand. My machine is a featherweight, and the belt is too smooth to “catch” the bobbin winder gizmo.

These are super cute and it looks like a good pattern. I've been making some from another pattern that has some flaws in the comfort and fit. Thanks for this! My fabric supply is limited to a few scraps too loud to be used for anything else previously, so the end result could look wacky...

Christel, I don’t think it matters if the fabric is wacky. It only matters that you have one. My husband likes the fit of this mask.

Bijou, Alice in Wonderland sounds lovely. If possible, place a Cheshire cat near your mouth.

I really like that. Great print too! Maybe I'll get inspired to drag out my never-used sewing machine and try it. My DIY bandana solution was not bad, but the hair bands around my ears gave me a headache, and after a little time started to slip off my ears.

I took a one-day machine sewing class last year that refreshed my very rusty junior-high-school era knowledge, but that's the extent of my sewing experience. I did make a nice tote bag in that class -- I figure if I can make a tote bag, I can make a mask! I have some Liberty fabrics I bought two decades ago in London that would make pretty masks.
