Ok the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania dress came much sooner than expected. This is the dress the bride really liked based on website pics. Obviously it needs steaming and yes it's viscose.

It's a very royal blue. I'm wearing probably the worst possible bra and I need heels. This is an Italian size 48, there is no sizing up. The belt probably needs fashion tape because it shifts around.
On the way home from work I stopped by a local boutique (Les Amis) that was having a dress sale. The store is very boho, but I'd thought at least I'd check. They had want seemingly was a nice pewtery silver silk dress with pleats from Rachel Comey. It made me look like a fashion Venus of Willendorf.
So I'm really, really hoping this works.

I think it's going to work, Anna. The blue is gorgeous. How does it feel on? The light makes it tough to judge the fit but from what I can see, it seems good. The one thing I wonder about is the top part -- is it too long in the bodice? It seems to have some extra fabric both front and back. But maybe the steaming will deal with that, or if not, perhaps a simple shoulder alteration (pulling up a bit) -- that has worked for me from time to time. It wouldn't be difficult. I love the asymmetrical hem.

ETA I mean the top part of the bodice, i.e. from bust to shoulder. But it's not clear what is going on in the back, either.

I like it better too. I think Suz is right that the top part is too long so maybe it can be altered ? Nice color and interesting style and it seems more "you" than another dress.

...and now I am thinking that it may work for my dance capsule...:-)

How does it feel on? The fit looks good to me, although I do see a crease or fold in the upper back. If that's still there after steaming and the proper shape wear, it would be a simple alteration to fix.

Ok, I realize you all are being perfectionists....but seriously this has been a multi-week search. During the last Seattle meet-up we tromped all over downtown looking for me and came up with nothing. I've trolled all the major websites. Seriously there is a dearth of reasonable options out there.

I really like it. The color is pretty and the style is interesting. When it's steamed and you're wearing heels, I think it'll look great.

This dress has great potential--right underwear, right shoes, maybe a bit of tucking here and there, and of course, pressing--and I see a Venus in blue. Beautiful color for you. I much prefer this one to the floral print dress.

Loved the VW dress best of all when you posted the first version of your search, but found the price steep. When Diana located an alternative, I hoped you would pounce. This is a gorgeous dress, and much your style. It is also a perfect thing for you to wear to a wedding to look amazing, but not compete with the bride.

Front is fab. Great side view (which is rare!). Your search is over. Tweak the fit (see your back view) and remember, heels change the way you stand. I'm sure you will style it to perfection.

I think this is really promising. With the right bra, wedges, and a good steaming... and a possible shoulder alteration (which I need all the time!) to shorten the bodice a little if the steaming doesn't do the trick.

One thing I wonder. Once it's steamed, if you sit and put creases in it, are they stubborn or do they fall out easily. I get annoyed with things that show strong creases across the hips from sitting and standing, especially for an event like a wedding that will involve photos. Just a thought.

I'd be tempted to try this dress myself if I needed an event dress. The color is gorgeous.

I love this style and color on you. Maybe it will need the shoulders taken up a bit. Something I have to do a lot with my dresses. I wouldn't do that until you're done deciding on underpinnings though. The length is lovely on you.

I really love this dress, the color is fantastic on you and it appears to fit quite well. With awesome shoes and, as you mentioned, the proper foundation garments, it will be perfect!

I like this - yes you need a better bra or whatever - it is a bit big on you here and there on top but the right bra or minor alteration could probably fix. I like it a lot actually the more I look at it.

It looks good! I do see the extra length in the bodice but taking up the shoulder is a really easy adjustment. You can see what it would look like if you just pull up the extra fabric and clip it with a binder clip. Then any tailor can easily sew it up. But try with a more push-uppy bra first if you have one. It might just need that extra boob lift to take up the slack.

Yeah, what Diana said -- it's a super easy fix (if it is even an issue after steaming/ undies.) If that is the only issue, it's so simple to deal with.

Question -- will you need a topper? It would suck if finding one would entail another difficult search. But it would be easier to find one for this dress than the other dress, I think.

Love that VW! Wear your hair up and throw on a pair of Spanx all-in-ones and you're fab for the wedding, photos and dancing all night (I did this with a 30s silk dress for my BFF's wedding). The dress survived and was perfect!

I think you've got a winner, Anna! I love the color and style on you, and I think the fit looks good. My take on the fold in the back is that it just needs to be pulled down, to blouse over the waist; no alteration needed.
And even though you were wearing the slippers with the other dress, I only now noticed they are the same as mine. We are slipper twins. (Are yours navy? Mine are.)

I LOVE it on you. So much, I think it's fantastic. It's really interesting and so flattering too. PERFECT. Now I'm going to check the other responses.

ETA -- None of the fit issues struck me as problematic, I just took those as part of the dress design. It's not supposed to be a tailored dress,is it? But I like Firecracker's and Diana's suggestions. Even if you don't make any alterations, just wearing the right bra will make a difference. Please don't shorten the dress, I love it that length.

My thought was that the torso looks to be cut too long. Definitely try it with another bra and see if that helps.

Oh I think this could be the one. The colour is so wonderful on you and it has such interesting lines. As the others have said, give it a good steaming and try it again with a different bra. Then you'll see if it really needs that minor alteration to the bodice.
I sure hope the bride likes it too.

I think it's hard to give a good opinion until you get it steamed/ironed and with the right undergarments. That will change the look so much. I do question the bodice fit as it is... it does appear a bit long. But that could all change!

YES. I think this is it. It has GREAT potential, Anna. I LOVE the colour on you. With the right bra, the torso is going to smooth out just fine. Flattering neckline and armholes too.

I *hope* that the dress isn't overly creasy even after it's been steamed. Viscose has that reputation. I am holding thumbs.

Okay, you can definitely work with this one. I love the color on you and I think the column of color thing is really working for you. I have a terrible visual imagination and the slippers and bra are not helping so I can't say for sure if I think there are any alterations that would improve it but it doesn't look too snug anywhere or like you need a larger size.
This is really pretty Anna! Good job hanging in and making it happen!
