Lots of questions about BF jeans & considering TR Briannas (long)

First I am going to apologize in advance for being a huge forum hog today, I have shopped a lot lately and plan to do a little bit more shopping, so I want to make sure I am not making any costly mistakes. My schedule is quite hectic these days and as much as I would like to space all of these posts out I don't know when I might find enough time again in the next week.

So, with the level 1 shopping complete, I am in the middle of dealing with level 2. One of the main items on that list for me is a pair of BF jeans. I have mentioned before that I have a mental block when it comes to baggy/slouchy pants for a bunch of complicated reasons, and a very slim pair of BF jeans would be pretty much the only way I would cover this major trend ( I do have some skinnies in a size up, but the fit is just a bit relaxed). I am very indecisive if I should go for such jeans in a first place, how they should fit and which model/size to choose. So please bear with me.

I would want these potential pair of BF jeans to be full length ( I would roll them on occasion but I am not allowed to wear cropped pants/jeans at work), no rips/tears, with a fit as slim as possible while still considered BF. I don't care that much about 100% cotton vs some stretch, and I am undecided on the wash, but I wouldn't want it to be too light. Something medium-ish would probably be the best. I have loved seeing everyone look awesome in their TR Camerons but I do not like that type of back pockets for myself.

The first two photos show the baggiest pair of skinnies I currently own. They are one size too big and very soft, so with wear stretch almost another size. In photo #1 you can see where they normally sit. I have rolled one leg for comparison and am holding the material on the other leg tight to see the looseness on the rolled leg, as everything looks tighter in the photo. The second photo shoes them low on my hips and there is some decent amount of slouch. The main purpose of these is to help me evaluate how much looser should a slim pair of BF jeans compared to this one. So what do you think?

I love everything about them, other than this strange stitching detail on the hips. Has anyone see them IRL? Would this detail limit their wearability? I also love the way they fit in these photos and would to try for a very similar fit - is this a slim BF fit? How is this compared to my skinnies? I am also enclosing a photo of different pair of Briannas (#4) in which they fit much looser, like a true BF fit, for comparison. I am currently right between 25 and 26 in most jeans and I am thinking 25 as I want more of a streamlined fit, but would like to hear some advice on this.

Tanya, Old Navy makes a pair of "skinny boyfriend jeans" in three washes. I have a pair and I love them. I just wanted to put it out there in case you want to try this trend on the cheap first, since I know it's out of your comfort zone The only problem is they're cropped. But you could order them in tall!

Hmm, Tanya, I think the shape and wash of the Briannas will work well for you but, like you, I'm not sure about the stitching. I actually have this issue with almost all TR jeans - I find their stitching really heavy and in-your-face which I do not like at all. I think this type of stitching is the signature TR look and you either like it or you don't.

The Joe's don't look like a BF to me, more like a tailored straight fit. Of course you could size up but I'm not sure that would give the look you want.

I was actually looking for the AG Piper style to link for you, which is a relaxed straight, that you could probably size up to get a slim BF look, but I can only find cropped versions right now. Here is the link to a cropped one so you can at least see the fit.

Tanya, you are such a careful and thoughtful shopper.

I actually really like your own jeans. They're not exactly a boyfriend look, but pretty darned close if you wear them rolled up. Of course the problem is that you can't do that at work. It's fine for casual wear (gives you the look and the feel for free...to try it on for comfort, as it were, esp. if you wear with your Reports.) But doesn't solve your problem if you want a pair that will work for you at the lab.

Question: do they have to work at the lab? Could they be weekend jeans for you, since you aren't entirely sure about whether they will be a good choice?

I do think this is a case where trying the look at a lower price point might be wise, given your hesitations. I understand the desire for premium denim, but here I might want to dip my toes in lightly first.

I think I know exactly what you are looking for. My old Banana Republic slouchy skinnies are the kind of thing. But they are not available anywhere, and they are distressed anyway, so not really work-wearable. But I love them. I can wear them rolled and unrolled both.

Why are full length BFs so hard to find

Tanya, it took a while for you to get into and enjoy wearing looser clothes. (You know you rock the look!) Emotional complications aside - and you are working through them too - you LOVE to be trendy and wear jeans daily. I think you'll love baggy full length jeans, actually. You have already warmed up to the look significantly over the last few months!

I have not seen the Briannas irl, but the fit looks great. I vote stick to tapered hems. Try a size down perhaps. The distressing detaill gets my thumbs up for your style

TRs tend to have a lot of rustic detailing so you need to keep that in mind. I remember the TR Briana in Duster wash, I wanted a pair but missed out on them. I don't think I ever tried this model on. I would try them in a 25 but sometimes they run small so a 26 might work better. There is no hard and fast rule in sizing TR bf jeans unfortunately.

I like the Rich and Skinnys you linked to as well as the Joe's. The R&S look most work appropriate. As a rule, I size down in bf jeans. I will get a 25 or 26 while in skinnies I opt for a 27 so as not to have that skin tight look around my thighs in particular. So I would try the 25s in the R&S but check the reviews.

I like the Joes, size down in those as well.

Finally, may I recommend these? I love them (but see they are sold out in may sizes). I got them in 27, they are looser on me than on the model, more like a bf jean. You might try them in the 24 for a cute rolled skinny look.

(I got them at Barney's before they went on sale a little over a month ago, the salesman recommended them. They are really soft too. They do stretch out a bit.)

Ariadne, that is a good idea, but ON jeans do not fit me at all. I also prefer to just go immediately to the pair I want. I would wear them around the house a bit and then decide (with forum help of course).

Diana, thanks! It is only the extra stitching on the hips that is bothering me on the TRs. The AGs are gorgeous, but way too similar to the skinny/straight pair I just got, so I wouldn't want to duplicate.

Suz, yes, the BF jeans would have to work for the lab, otherwise I wouldn't invest in them at all. I have plenty of lab-inappropriate clothes for the weekend and am just looking to expand my work options. As you said, I could wear my existing loose skinnies rolled up on the weekend if I wanted. Love your BR ones!

Angie, thank you for your advice! Much appreciated. I am still trying to find my comfortable spot when it comes to loose pants. i don't think I will ever wear them very loose and slouchy like many here do, but a little think I could handle.

I have decided to be brave and just ordered the Briannas in 25, as there was only one pair left. I will see how they feel and look on, and how much the stitching bothers me (or not). I am not afraid to order and return many pairs to find the right one. I also do not feel like I have to have them, so I will not settle. If they do not work than I will go through other pairs mentioned here.
