Is it too early to talk about our YLF Octoberfest? Let's get a weekend date set so we can set our calendars!

Like last year, I would like to arrive on a Friday afternoon/evening and leave Monday morning. I enjoyed the OC area because it was convenient to the John Wayne airport and the hotel I stayed at, but I don't want to make the northern LA ladies have to do all that driving. Should we make it more central or is Orange county still OK for everyone?

Who's ready to have a weekend of shopping, eating, and gabbing?

ETA: Angie has proclaimed that we move our Octoberfest to Seattle. Any takers?

AJ - I am very interested. OC is fine for me, I am in the Inland Empire, so I will drive in. I will let you vets figure out the details and I will be your willing participant.

Yes, let's get it set up, so people can buy tickets and make reservations!

We talked a little bit about it at the last swap party, and we thought Orange County might still be a good bet because of all the ample parking available. LA has some really fun shopping (Beverly Center, Santa Monica, Melrose), but they all offer parking challenges and are farther from the airport for sure.

I for one would not mind making the drive to OC... I wonder if I could even share a room with some of the out-of-towners? That would shave a lot of miles off over a 2-3 day adventure.

Note to self: Do not schedule family vacation immediately before or after YLF Octoberfest this year!!

This is crazy, but if I were welcome I would love to fly out. Could I be an honorary SoCal girl?

(However, the odds this time around would not be good no matter what...I will be in Italy 10/2-10/15...but I really want to meet all of you in the near future! Seriously considering making it happen! And DD is up in the Bay Area, so a side trip there would be very likely)

Questions: What is the nearest airport for OC, still LAX or John Wayne? Just doing research ladies!
Does anyone have hotel info and do you have final dates??? Call me crazy but this is very doable, very doable... I'm swimming in hotel and airline points....

The closest airport to OC is John Wayne. It is *super* close to the malls we hit up last time.

Mochi, if the dates can work out, I feel fine speaking for *all* of SoCal saying you are more than welcome!

I just may drop down for real shopping trip! But I just got a jury duty call for the second week of October. Of course, I'll never get picked. Wonder if I can use a YLF gathering as a reason to be excused.

I just checked flights in October and the rates dropped dramatically. If you have final dates, I'd love to see if I can make it happen, I mean, if I'm allowed in

As far as I'm concerned ANYone and EVERYone who wants to come is WELCOME with open arms.

I'm with Rae about OC being the ideal location - the airport location and getting in and out of it, as well as the traffic and parking make OC a much easier place to navigate and plan as compared to LA.

I only have one thing planned for October so far - and it is the last Saturday of that month. However, I am flexible and if it turns out that that weekend is the best for everyone else, I WILL make it work!

*raises hand* I'm sooooo in! I quite liked where we stayed last year AJ, very convenient re the airport and having the car was SUPER handy (I still have my GPS!). We might need a couple rooms if more people are coming this year, and Rae you would be more than welcome to come stay with us so you don't have to drive so much!! I volunteer my room

I am SO tempted. Depending on which weekend it is, I could probably swing it. Which dates are you all thinking of?

My only complication is that we are going to an Oktoberfest event ONE of the first 3 weekends in October... and though apparently someone has already booked our rooms, I have not yet managed to find out the date yet. Unfortunately that's kind of typical with this group of friends!

Oh, I can't do the second weekend because I have my office's annual retreat. I think it's the second weekend. Will know for sure on Monday.

Alright! I have travel plans but they are Mon-Fri. I am basically good for the first three weekends. Side note, I wanted to let you know that I can get government rates, which can be as low as 50% off the normal rates on hotels, which I'm allowed to do even on non business travel, if anyone is interested. The only issue for me would be finding an affordable plane ticket - money or points. I guess that would all depend on final dates.
This is on its way to be "the YLF Ocktoberfest US edition". I really hope I can make it. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a final decision on dates.

You do not have to be a Los Angeles nor California resident to join us...just a willingness to get to Orange County anyway you can! : P

Seems like some need a few more days to confirm their October plans. The only weekend I can't make is the first one, 5-8. Looks like MaryK might be out the second weekend, so that leaves the 3rd or 4th weekend open.

The hotel I used last time has two room suites. A bedroom with a door that has either one king bed or two double beds. Then there is a living area with a pull out sofa bed. The bathroom is in the bedroom. There is a mini fridge and bar sink in the living room area. It was a clean and quiet hotel with a lovely pool and patio area.

I'll PM anyone interested in the hotel name and location...for safety reasons, I'm not putting that info here on the forum.

Now you all are making me consider sharing a hotel room, cause even tho I *could* commute I'd miss all the fun! Yeeks!!!

Note to potential roomies: I take up very little room and am used to unusual sleeping conditions, am very handy at solving problems, and calm in a crisis. I am like the Radar O'Reilly of YLF.
