Looking at eyeglass frames

I had my eye checkup today and it seems my distance vision has actually improved, but my closeup vision is not what it once was. So I’m in the market for some new glasses, and I’m going to try progressive lenses so I’m not constantly taking my glasses on and off.

I tried on a bunch of frames, and found two I like. Not the greatest pictures of me, but you get the idea. One pair is matte silver with a subtle tortoiseshell accent (perfect finishes for me!). The other is an unusual shape but I find it surprisingly appealing, and the color is a nice shade of olive that seems to pick up some of the green in my eyes yet still has an overall neutral effect.

Any impressions? I’m going to check out some other shops in another week or so, so I’m not in a rush, but was curious for feedback.

I'm not much help; I like both, too. I love the softness of #1 and the cool shape and tone of #2. I wonder if you would tire of the unique shape over time?

I like them both, but of course I have to have a different opinion than everyone else - ugh I actually have a slight preference for the edgier shape of the 2nd pair. I'm terrified of glasses - and need a new pair myself.

I hear you, Lisa. I don't love glasses shopping. Seems like some people look good in so many different styles, but I am NOT one of those people. I have to try on 20 to find one that maybe sorta kinda works. After 50, I might find a true winner.

I sometimes think that some styles and finishes photograph better than others. I would like to go back to the shop with my husband and get his opinion -- I value his input, plus he's the one who has to see me in the darn things more than anyone else!

Another photo in the green ones — the color shows better in this. So far, just from photos, hubs prefers the green ones!

Also contrary, I like the green ones best. The frames seem a little smaller, which to me, looks better. The first pair hides your brows.

I didn't notice they were green, till I saw your last pictures. And ok,perhaps they are more "you" and more exciting than #1. The point about your husband having to look at you and your glasses more than anyone else is a good one. If he prefers the green ones, that's absolutely no bad choice. Both pairs frame your big beautiful eyes in a fabulous way.

I will add that the silver/tortoise ones are sitting a little high in the photo — the nosepads were in a smidge too far, so I think they look better when they are down just slightly in the proper place. Here’s a selfie with those (again, harsh light and not a great photo but gives you the gist with another view).

Although you look great in both, I prefer #2.
I tried progressives but absolutely could not get used to them. I felt like I was inside a funhouse mirror. Here’s hoping you have better luck than I did.

The doc mentioned that progressives often take some time — up to three weeks — to adjust. But I already have to shlep around two pairs of glasses (regular and sunglasses), I’m not about to add readers to the mix too! Just too much to juggle. So I figured I’ll see how these work for me. If I hate them, they can switch them out.

Boy that’s hard. In the first pic, I liked 2 better. Then I liked the green even more when I could see the green. But 1 adjusted, that’s a real run for the money. I do find 1 a more sober pair, if that makes a difference.

I find glasses really difficult to judge from motionless pictures but the second (green) pair. They both look good.

Very difficult. I would like the first pair in the second color.
I have started wearing progressives almost 2 years ago and I am due to update. I am dreading this task, hate shopping for glasses. I still juggle 3 pairs- prescription sunglasses, computer glasses and progressives. I am not able to focus on the screen with progressives. And I still use my old readers for plucking eyebrows and other hairs Progressives are not good for that either.

Anchie, I think I'm fortunate in that my need the close-up/readers is still quite slight. I don't need them much for computer work and reading (YET), but they will be super helpful for things like driving and being able to see my GPS at the same time, or shopping, where I want to be able to see in the distance but not have to take my glasses off to look at a label. Luckily, I don't seem to need any help to see the plucking subjects. Or maybe unluckily since I seem to see them all too frequently these days.

I'm kind of torn at this point. The green frames are $130 less than the others, but I don't mind paying more for the best eyeglass frames, since I wear them nearly every day. I would also not rule out getting two pairs, but I want to only order one to start with, to see if progressives work for me.

The green ones for sure. They have style, the first pair could be anybody's glasses. Functional, nothing special.

From the second batch of photos, I like the green better. They seem smaller(?) - I can see your face first and not the glasses; the silver ones seem more prominent.

Love them both! For different reasons, already said for each.

I commiserate with Anchie on no matter how progressive they are (hey, pun inteded!:-)) I still juggle 3 pairs- prescription sunglasses, computer glasses and progressives(for the same reasons:-()

Then, can I ask you, Angie and other pro's:- are we over the strong statement plastic frames already? (or metal frames are your strong personal preference?).

# 2 edges out #1 by a smidge. Looks like a modern take on the John Lennon signiture style, and suits YOUR slightly R&R style. Both are very similar with #. 1 more conventional and #2 more modern, that won't date .

Lyn, strong plastic frames are very prevalent in the stores! They look great on others, but they are mostly a little too ALGO on me, with the streaks in my hair and my love for earrings and accessories. I wanted something more subtle this time, and I actually think the pickings are more meager for wore frames at the moment.

#1 pops more on your face, #2 seems more coordinated (in a good way, like coordinating a top and pants that aren't the same fabric and pattern). Both have their good points, so I like both.

Not helpful, I know, but at least you win either way in my point-of-view LOL

I have a slight preference for #1 due to the shape of the bottom outside edge, but it's very close. FWIW, I never had any trouble adjusting to progressives, pretty much instant adjustment. That being said, I am much more comfortable reading and in front of a computer screen using my Rx reading glasses.

I need to join in the glasses search as well. Have had my Rx for a few months, know I can't see with what I have, but hate the search for specs with nose pads that can accommodate my Rx and aren't too large for my face. Ugh!

did you pick one yet?! those green are fantastic! the color and shape appeal to my designer side for sure. *and they match that fun hair streak!

oh PS; i need progressives as well..sigh...too much age & computer time....so I got them, them promptly replaced with with single lenses as they just seem so unsettling to wear!... I ended up with some lovely Prada frames but they actually are a bit heavy and hit my cheeks and fog up! so now Im back to frame hunting and giving progressives a second chance
