Linen shirt dress workshop

This linen shirt dress caught my eye last week https://www.aritzia.com/en/pro.....olor=19303 so I placed an order, and it arrived yesterday. The colour is a cool pale lilac (or lavender?) that doesn’t translate well in photos, but is lovely IRL. I had some fun with an outfit creation session this morning.

#1 styled simply with a silk scarf and blue point toe flats
#2+3 (unbuttoned and buttoned) the waistcoat reigns in the fullness and provides structure
#4 particularly fun when in movement

The self tie can be fastened in front in the conventional manner, or around the back which streamlines the front and creates a bustle effect in back.

*It took 10 minutes to iron (I timed myself ) and though DH is the Ironman, I don’t mind giving my clothes a press!

Gorgeous dress, Carla! Love it on you. I wonder if it’s the same fabric as my Aritzia culottes from a few years back.

These are fun stylings, from the classic to the unexpected! Which did you like best? I liked them all but maybe especially worn open with the white or red. And classic of course.

@ Suz - the dress is 100% linen, and I see your culottes are a blend. My hope is to have the dress a long time and for it to get soft and worn in over time. Originally, I wanted the navy, but it wasn’t available in my size so I got the lavender. Now I’m thinking the lighter colour might age better. #4 with the red skirt is my favourite, with #5 with the white jeans next.

I agree with you on light color for linen, navy linen items fade fast. I don’t wear my navy linen shirt often but already can see fading on the edges.

Love this for you! I like the idea of the vest, but maybe with different shoes (e.g., your Converse)? Just my two cents, of course. I love it with the red pleated skirt underneath, and worn as a duster with both white and black.

@ Lisap - not keep/return, but rather opinions on my styling attempts, and should they be worn out in the real world (vs workshop.). Also, ideas from folks on how they style their shirt dresses, or what I might do to maximize versatility.

Question: if I was to add a belt (vs using the self tie) and a bag, what colour should I be considering? I would like something to ‘go’ with my lavender stuff including the coat in Finds below.

I’ve been eying this (#1) bag/colour - but Coach bags can sometimes be physically heavy. The second bag is from a Canadian company.

The dress is beautiful, and a great fit. I like all these stylings. My favorites are 1, 4, and 5. I'm less crazy about it over the black pants for some reason, though I like the top under it.

I think you could wear it as shown in 1, but with sneakers--maybe your red converse and carry the red bag? And wear a white or blue jean jacket if you need it for warmth.

I'm not sure about the vest. It seems to weigh down the dress visually, as in mood, mainly. It may be that the subtleties of the vest's texture don't come through in the photo.

In answer to your question about a belt, I think a metallic would look good--in pewter, champagne, or rose gold kind of tones. If such a thing exists in the right width and style is another question! A reptile look could work, too. Oh, just saw your pics of bags--I like the second one especially.

@ Firecracker - thanks. I agree about #1, 4, and 5. I can do white Converse (and will), possibly with an inexpensive straw of mesh bag for high summer casual - going to the farmer’s market, thrifting, etc. The red Converse are long gone - worn through and not replaced!

What a lovely dress. I love it in the classic way and over the red and the white. I think mixing up shoes will also be fun (slides, sneakers etc..)

I don't love it with the waistcoat - the dress is classic and airy and the waistcoat looks heavy and tailored.

I actually like a pairing of lavender and cognac . Something warm and rich to set off the cooler paleness of the lavender . ( in terms of bag , belt etc) . Straw with cognac leather is also nice .

Fun outfits- I love #5 the best and then #1 . Would be interesting to try something really contrasting in color for bags/ shoes - metallics will be fun too.
Since dress has some volume- I feel your hair do with a scarf works better in a way ( just to my eye ).

I wasn't as floored by the iteration with the vest. I'm not sure why. Maybe the vest is too fitted, whereas the dress has some movement to it?

I'm not sure what type of belt to add. I personally don't mind self belts at all and usually just stick with them. Maybe it's because I'm short waisted and don't like to draw attention to it.

Yes, mine are a blend, so different. I think the colour's the same, though -- a very pale lavender.

Great dress! I particularly like 4,5 and 6 as they look fresh and modern to me. I think the colours of the bags you posted both go so well with lilac. I tend to use my silver bag when I wear lilac. I like navy too but I think the lilac is more summery.
