I'm wearing my white linen midi for what might be the last time this year - I think woven linen should be reserved for late spring and summer.

But what about linen knits? Would a linen sweater in winter seem seasonally confused? (I think yes, but usually because of the style/construction, not the fabric.) How about a linen tee in winter? (I think no.)

For me it's a climate/practical issue. I don't wear linen because its not warm enough for me most of the time. But if I lived in the right climate I'd wear it year round.

I've worn them as layering pieces under a blazer in the fall and spring. It gives the look of layering a sweater under your blazer when it's not cold enough to wear a wool one.

ETA: I am just finishing up knitting a white linen sweater. My knitting has been very slow this summer so it's going to be done just in time for fall. Woohoo. I'm going to wear it anyway. It has long sleeves.

I think it all comes down to climate. In my climate, linen and even linen knits are great in the summer. I am wearing a linen tee right now, and wore a light linen sweater yesterday. As soon as our true fall temps hit, I won't be wearing them until it warms up again.

Well, in my climate, I think it would look seasonally confused. Not because it is linen exactly, but because you would freeze. We get snow in fall and -25F winters all winter, with the occassional dip farther down than that. Wool, cashmere, and layers of silk are the name of the day!

I don't feel like wearing linen other than summer and late spring. Just packed away a linen sweater for the season. I love ultrafine merino wool though.

I remember wearing a linen knit sweater early this year in Tahoe when it was cold enough to bring along my wool coat. But I did pair it with a leather panel skirt and knee high boots, so maybe that solved the seasonally confused part of the equation?

When I lived on the Gulf Coast I wore linen nine months of the year. I had a very dark khaki linen dress that looked appropriate in the fall.
