I have not been active here for a while leading up to the anniversary sale, and thought I’d share what I wore to an event this weekend celebrating the life of a special person we recently lost from my in-laws’ family. This was truly a life celebration with so much laughter amid the tears and beautiful stories and memories shared.

It was a bit of a scramble to get ready for this memorial. We had got our dates wrong, remembering next weekend as the day it would be held, but just before leaving the house for a more casual gathering we learned that it was THIS weekend. We had enough time to adjust plans. Thank goodness for easy fallback pieces that just work.

I realized that today, trying to balance respect and comfort and celebration, I wore something very similar to what I’d chosen for my grandma’s celebration of life 11 years ago. Back then, I wore a light gray A-line sleeveless dress and a light paisley silk scarf.

Today I chose a crepe navy sheath (Eliza J) with a ruffled panel on the front, which I originally wore last year at my sister’s wedding, and rolled an oversized colorful geometric square scarf diagonally into an oblong scarf shape. (The scarf was strategic as it was hot today, but often quite cool with air conditioning indoors.) I wore pale gold flat mules, a tiny aqua pendant necklace, and carried a pale gold clutch. Hair worn pinned back into a short ponytail, because that’s the way it was when we learned about our date mixup.
