Hi Fabbers!

Pre-YLF I had lots of pieces that were worn once and passed on
This teal jacket/shirt is a sale buy from Jan. 2013, and hasn't had much love since- Too bright? Too dressy?

Anyway, no bites on Ebay so I tried to style and wear today.
Now I keep in mind my style-descriptors: Simple, Sporty, etc.
This has been very helpful- how can I casualise this jacket and make it more wearable is the question I asked myself.

Well, I was happy with this outfit.
The BF jeans dressed it down, and worn open it felt quite good.
The weather was cooler today, so the extra layer was welcome.

Love the colour on you. I'm so glad you made it work. I'm seeing a bit of teal coming through in the winter lines over the last few weeks, so I think this will work well with the mood of the season.

I have a couple of items I have only worn once: a white boho style maxi skirt and a pair of green leopard skinnies. Both were cheap and not brands I usually buy, and both were bought in desperation to try and fill a wardrobe hole. Clearly that worked well!

Lyn this looks really good on you. Wonderful colour and I like the shape and line of the jacket. Do you think you will keep it now? I had so many things that I wore once before YLF. I seemed to have this totally mental mindset that I couldn't be seen in the same thing twice..not sure exactly where that came from. Only yesterday I was thinking how much things have changed. Much smaller wardrobe and I wear pretty much everything a lot.. and what's more there are things I can't wait to wear again. I am doing a bit of a purge on Ebay myself at the moment. Of the two kimono jackets I bought one is just wrong for me so that's on at the moment. It's a rather nice way to raise funds and make room for better things Are you enjoying he cooler day today?

I like the jacket on you. It's got the mixed media and moto thing going. This is a cute casual outfit, the jacket definitely brightens the look. Have you tried it with a simple white scoop neck tank top? How about wearing it closed like a blouse with cami underneath? The boxy, closed jacket look is on trend right now.

With my orphans I either re-offer them at a lower price (I too am listing on eBay right now, cleaning out my closet -- I have the time!). Or, I donate them. I've only a few times changed my mind about taking something out of the purge pile. I tend not to beat on myself too much for mistakes. I still make a lot of mistakes, it's constantly a learning process. And when I have to take the time to sell my mistakes on eBay (most of them barely worn or even NWT), it reinforces the learning.

I have noticed that I have made fewer footwear mistakes/orphans than clothing mistakes. That is because I am quite picky about shoes, I know what I like, what I don't. Whereas I tend to like more clothing. I see potential in so many pieces on the rack, whereas that isn't the case with shoes.

One thing I am trying to do now is to shop outfits more than separates. Sure I have my jeans/tee/cardi formula for lounging at home which is all about separates, and they don't always need to be chic together. But for other wardrobe needs, I am trying to purchase around a complete look now.

I like your idea of shopping for outfits- are you finding this is limiting your colour-palette too?

I really like how you've styled the jacket, and I think the color looks great on you. Now just replace the jeans with a pencil or tube skirt, and you've got more styling options!
Our pre-YLF experiences are all very interesting. Pre-YLF I had "outfits" - about two weeks' worth - that I rotated. I was pretty clueless about mixing and matching. I also didn't really have items that I didn't wear. I have a very stubborn mindset of "You bought it, you'd better wear it!"

First the title made me laugh because I was sort of expecting a Onesie. HAHAHA. they are the sleeping rage here and my kids adore them.
That aside, I like the jacket, both colour and fit. Love how you have styled it. I say give it a bit of a chance and see if you can wear it a few times to determine whether you should keep.

My solution for toppers that feel overly bright to me: white jeans. A magical fix that freshens and lightens intense colors.

I really like hoe you've done it over a column of neutrals. Agree you migt also try over a colmn of pale spring neutrals-- shades of white and cream.
I say keep wearing it . Also by wearing it more, it may become clearer to you what you want in your next toppers re: fit, color , and what details make something versatile for your wardrobe.
Wearing = learning.

Nice job! The teal looks great on you and the jacket doesn't read as too dressy at all.

I'm definitely guilty of wearing things once and then having them just sit there. Obviously, this isn't something I'm happy about, but hopefully getting more selective with what I buy will at least make that happen less often.

Well, I love the jacket, AND I love the jacket on you!! What's it made of? Is it a sort of spring/ fall weight, or indoor weight, or what feels best? It looks as if it drapes nicely. This is a super outfit, and I think the others have also offered great styling ideas.

I love this jacket! I think it will be great in the spring, over white jeans.

And yes, guilty. I have two skirts I bought in the fall, still with tags on. A tunic I got at Christmas, still with tags on. But I do like them, between the weather and other clothes they just haven't made it out of the closet yet. I seem to forget a) what I have when I see things I like, esp at a good price, and b) my lifestyle.... there's only one casual Friday in a week!

I am definitely feeling better about this jacket after reading all your helpful replies
Suz- it is lightweight- poly sheer sleeves and body with cream-cotton lace lining.
One reason that I want to keep is that it although I bought fairly cheaply it is actually a designer label.
Elizabeth P- I am sure you will get the opportunity to wear your orphans when the weather changes.
April- I will try it with my white jeans and see how that feels, thanks!

This looks great! I have to be careful with choosing colors which lead to orphans. I am often attracted to teal, for instance, and it looks good on me, but I can't seem to style it well. This is why I have narrowed my colors down so much!

I like how you've worn the jacket here! What do you think was holding you back before?

I can't consign or sell my clothes. First, I generally wear my clothes hard. Second, my taste seems to be pretty out there.

Although, admittedly, I'm talking local consignment here. I'm afraid to eBay. Seems difficult.
