Lagenlook Experiment and added scarves -plus stompy boots and sneakers

A while back, there was some discussion about Lagenlook style. DH encouraged me to get this dress last summer and I haven't been able to find its friends, so I tried layering with black. I tried two lengths of leggings and a black skirt. Which looks best? What other suggestions do you have for improvement. Does the necklace work or should I try others? Thanks for any advice and comments.

alaskagirl suggested adding a scarf so I tried the three that I have. What do you think? I don't often wear scarves so am a little backward in styling them. Help!!

I've changed shoes because I think I need to add an edgy look and break up the little girl vibe. Do any of these shoes work?

I think it all works but a crinkly scarf would up the Lagenlook factor. Are those the Jambus? Did they work out for you?

alaskagirl: I'll try a scarf - the only crinkly one I have is lime green with moose on it. It might work. I love my Jambus and wear them constantly.
Mochi: Yes, that's probably the most summery look and it's in the 80's here today.

I love look 1, too, and also the added layer in pic 3. I really like how the necklace in those looks echoes the print on the tunic -- though maybe it's not as "lagenlook." I'd like to see a more subtle, tonal scarf with no print -- crinkled as Alaskagirl suggests, maybe draped a little more loosely around the neckline?

I love all the combos you have shown but the one over skirt and full length leggings hits my sweet spot the most. The scarves don't do anything for me, they are too colourful and contrasty; the second is the most neutral of the bunch.

The only thing that gives me pause is the footwear. On me, a Maryjane strapped shoe AND a dress worn pinafore style, in the same outfit, would give too much little-girl vibe. (But then, my DH would never encourage me to buy this dress -- which I love.) I would prefer these outfits with your sneaker-booties, or a Birkenstocky sandal. With the Maryjanes, I would layer in the other direction, with a long drapey vest over top.

I love all the layers. I also really like the lime green scarf because I think that contrasting color really brings this up a notch and makes it look very intentional. I'm kind of interested in pursuing this look for an occasional walk away from my tailored/preppy style (although I am deeply into preppy layers -- turtleneck under polo under button-front shirt under cardigan, etc.)

Somehow I missed the other thread. Until now I had never heard of this concept. Of your pictures, I like #1 best, which is a cute modern look. With the plaid dress over a skirt, it looks like an apron on someone in the 20s or 30s.

Hi Bonnie --

I only have a passing familiarity with this style, so grain of salt etc. For me it's #1 by a mile -- I like the way the necklace and bare ankles echo your face and hair.

However, it doesn't really seem like YOUR style based on what I've seen of you've shown. From my armchair -- -- these seem a disconnect with your overall presence, which convey a lightness of spirit along with a certain energy and crispness.

If you're not really drawn to it, maybe just waft around the house in it with bare arms/legs as a nod to your husband's preferences? It seems perfect for hot summer days!

I have no idea what Lagenlook is, but I like #1 best, with #2 second. I like the streamlined look and the skin showing between the leggings and your shoes.

You look so cute, but it skews a little preschool teacher. I think Angie's idea about white sneakers will make it look more intentional..

3 is my favorite, then 1. I really like the leggings with this look, I guess, because it looks edgier to me. I also would like your stompy boots or sneakers with these looks. The scarves are fine but not necessary, in my opinion, to make the looks work.

UmmLila: You are so right. When I taught Kindergarten I didn't dress this way but knew some teachers who did. I'll try the sneakers and my Doc "Hell" boots.

Vix: You are so right about this not being my style. I'm currently working with modern, casual, soft, tomboy, and arty as style monikers. I also like a bit of edge. I wore this today to the symphony because I know no one that goes and it made DH happy. I like to keep his interest in what I'm wearing.

JAileen: You're right. I do look like someone from the past.

Nebraskin: Maybe I'm doing the same thing by pursing this look. I like the color contrast of the lime, too.

L'Abeille: Yes! I love the shoes but they do look too little girl. I'm going to try different shoes for an edgier look.

This is new to me. I've never heard of Lagenlook. So..I'm not a fan. This looks like something the evil step sisters would make you wear to scrub the floors while you're waiting for Prince Charming to bring you the glass slipper. Sorry. You are adorable with a dynamite figure. I just don't see why you would wear a sack.

I like #1 too and also the juxtaposition with the stompy boots and sneakers. It might be fun in the summer with a white tee and white sneakers.

I think you look adorable, though it does depend a lot on where and what you're doing when you're wearing this look. Since I am striving to lose weight at this time I am more interested in looking slimmer. Confession: after I read your post a couple of hours ago, I looked up "Lagenlook" and got hooked on a really blowsy embroidered top which I promptly bid on --and won-- on eBay! Go figure. Well at least I know exactly how I'll wear this top in the summer months when we're on the road and the car is blazing hot and my husband won't turn on the air conditioning...I'll be wearing sandals and/or sneakers. And shorts. Not much more...

I like #1 and #11 best. How about a white t-shirt instead of black? What about layering with some sort of topper, like a jeans jacket? The right jacket could undercut the "pre-school teacher" vibe.

Sarah: It's hard to do Lagenlook without looking like one is wearing a costume. I tried it because DH thinks it looks good on me and it's a fun look. The hard part is getting everything working together without going overboard. I'm not converting to wearing this look exclusively but would like to dabble a bit once in a while. Google or look at Pinterest at Lagenlook Outfits if you want to see what others are wearing.

Runs With Scissors: I have a great jeans jacket that I've never worn because it doesn't work well with anything I have. I'll give it a try, maybe it will work. I bought it before I started photographing my outfits and haven't worn it since.

I have tried to like one or more of these but....

I think the thing is that YOU look "adorable," and that shines through, because you're fit and lovely and have a gorgeous smile, but the overall look is very juvenile/Little House to me, because the dress looks like a pinafore, and it's not even ironed by Ma Ingalls,--so I sort of think, why? even with the tennis shoes. I should google Lagenlook, but layered is one thing, vs, what to layer. So #1 wins sort of by default because the leggings are better than the skirt.
