Really good point about the wildcard item/colour! I’m thinking that if you make a place for it in your closet, rather than edit it at the end of a season, you’re less prone to repeat the ‘mistake’ when the impulse comes on you to buy ‘the thing’.
It seems like we hold on to wildcard dressy/holiday items, but tend to purge the colourful summer impulse buys or items that reflect a shadow style. I know my summer impulse is for colour and boho. (See exhibit A in finds below for 2023, and exhibit B for summer 2022.) Nothing in my closet (all in Finds) stands out like these two!
