Combat/Granny/Lace up boots - Euro chic?

I'll apologize in advance for dragging you through my mud of indecision

I have gotten the (#1) Dolce Vita Jasper in Desert (**waving at cciele rocking hers**)

But should I go Black instead?

I'm another one trying to jump on the Euro-chic bandwagon, so does one say Euro-chic more than the other? (i.e. Euro-chic would be more flat, but does that really mean FLAT?)

Thanks for your patient input and ideas (and I'll understand if you tell me 'enough boots already!')

The second pair looks more Euro--in my mind. I'm not sure I really have all that terminology straight though. It looks like something I might see in a Sartorialist pic. It has that kind of old school vibe. Personally, I like the first one better--the color with your hair, the subtle menswear detailing on the toe and the slightly higher stacked heel.

ETA: mmm, not loving the black but I'm on a black footwear ban.

I like the sand color, but what color is your hair and how do you plan on wearing them? If you're light haired or plan wearing them with bare legs, the lighter color makes sense. I'd order both- maybe black and light and try them on to see what is most comfy before deciding.

The first pair has a very traditional detail on the toe that reminds me of a man's brogue, so I would say the second pair, with the plainer toe is more euro chic. Either pair would look good in black.

khris - I have medium blonde hair highlights, so these wil probably be a pretty good bookend for me. . . and I have SO many black boot variations -- but none are laced -- hmmm.

Well, I love all the styles, but I gravitate to #2, but I'm being selfish. It's the one I would order; lower heel, slightly darker color and less detailing on the toe. But if you don't mind the extra height in the heel or the detailing, 1 is great too. I must also add that I prefer the sand or tan color. The black seems too masculine or biker.

Oh, Kelly - you caught me! I haven't figured out what to wear them with...

I've just really wanted lace-ups (like you rock yours!), but I don't feel myself in Doc Martens, my calves are too short for some tall laceups and too large for others (a gap alongside the tongue!). So I've slowly been mentally working out what laceups I might actually wear.

Heather - I did try them with the CCV dress and the pics weren't very clear, nor was the look very good. . . so I'm still working out that one ^^^

Carole - I'm worried about that with black too. Actually, I think IRL both Desert colors should be the same(?)

I would also love to how you'd like to wear them. I think the heel might make a bit of a difference, depending on what you'd wear them with.

The first ones have ever-so-slightly younger vibe to me. Personally, I think I might feel a bit too trendy in them - but that may be exactly what you're after (and I could be completely wrong - I often am!) I can see the second ones with rolled up jeans or skinnies. Is that what you're thinking? However, for skirts - maybe the heel would work a bit better?

taylor - yup, same boot, different colors. Your choosing a lower heel surprises me, but maybe because both heels are so chunky it didn't matter?

Tarzy - I wanted to wear them like cciele wore hers with her CCV dress, but I just can't pull that look off. I'm open to suggestions (aka rationalizations!) like you mentioned the rolled up jeans and skinnies although that's probably not a flattering look either for my height and legs. . .

I don't have a handle on Euro-chic, but I like the nude ones for bare legs a lot, and the black for with pants. Though it's hard to tell for sure in theory.

Any way you can show us some outfits, since you already have those on hand?

I've always had a soft spot for granny boots. I wore them all the time in the 90s (with dresses) and loved the look. Now you're tempting me to try them again!

To answer your question, I think #2 looks more euro chic (flatter, more practical, sleeker/simpler design) but I prefer #1. The reason is actually that I much prefer my granny boots to be slightly higher on the ankle, more of a mid-calf than ankle boot. It really shows off a nice slim ankle shape with the lacing, and looks great under skirts and dresses.

Tarzy, a running joke in my family is that I am still wearing the same type of shoes that I was wearing when I was in high school (in the mid 90's) - vintage-y looking oxfords and granny boots. I was so happy when they came back in style!

These are more granny than combat to me, with the toe shape and less stompy look - but I do love them! I don't think the black is too masculine at all, but what do you feel would mesh better with your wardrobe? And your hair? Seems like the light color would work for you, and I can't decide between the two pairs. For me I would go with the heel.

Anyhow, what a dilemma! I've looked at the Madrona more than a few times myself.

I think the heel height would be one big determining factor for me. The Jaspers are taller than they look (about 2.75") -- so if you plan on wearing the boots with bootcuts or flares you need to make sure the height works.

As far as Eurochic goes, I think the Madrona would be more Eurochic, for reasons others have mentioned. I like these styles in the desert color; to me the black gives connotations of combat boots (not that that's a bad thing, I would just rather get combat boots if I were getting black lace-ups). Then again, a lot of it depends on your wardrobe...

I really like #2 and #4 and can see the color of #2 being ideal for spring. I see college girls running around here in these rugged combatty boots all the time. Unfortunately they seem to love to pair them with leggings, which they mistakenly think are pants, and short sweaters. Sigh.

rae - I hoped I might wear them bare legged, but not sure because my legs are glow-in-the-dark white :-\

tarzy - cciele's pic looks just like I'd like to look, but she's got much slimmer legs and better leg color (not to mention all her other slimmer parts. . .) This is hard!

Diana - you've rocked your laceup boots too! I know what you mean about where the top line is. I have super 'shapely' calves and don't want my lower leg to look like disporportionate!

Una - yes, I have lots of black because it works well, but maybe that's why I'm ready for tan. Heel for height/slimming vs. shorter for more Euro-chic?

Laura - I'm hoping I can make this look all grown up IFKWIM OT - they actually added 'no leggings worn as pants' to our dress code for the high schools!!! "The leggings must be covered", blah, blah, blah. . . So, who's decided what's leggings vs. jeggings vs. all the other too tight/too thin pants?

FWIW, I can visualize the more Euro pair with a pencil (black or denim) skirt and striped top. Pants too. I think you lose the Euro vibe with the black. Again, this is from someone who hasn't been off this continent in 15 years. The PL and the DV Palis are a similar color to the Madrona--do you get much wear out of those? I bet the Pali's would look great with the CCV dress.
