KS clutch: right size or too big?

So Zap looked fantastic with this clutch.

I am at least 6 inches shorter than her! I love this clutch - the color, the print, the quality - but is it too big for me? And please excuse a) my ridiculous outfit and b) the fact that I haven't been able to post much recently but am asking for help. I would use it for a day clutch - at least that's my hope.

Zap needs to be a bag model for Kate Spade, doesn't she? She nearly sold me one as well! I don't think this looks too big for you, but I'm marveling that you found a KS that's UWP enough for you. Is is flat? It looks large enough to hold legal briefs. Turquoise and snakey, what's not to love?!

It is flat. Not sure why it looks like a clutch on her but more of a portfolio on me - probably the height difference. Drat my stubbiness!

I voted yay, but I think I'd like it more if it was slouchy. I'm not sure if rigid is you.
Perhaps in a outfit the context would work.

Anna, that is a very good point. It's a good contrast to my slouchy looks, perhaps, but not necessarily me. KS is my shadow style. I really should style an outfit and not just what I'm slobbing around in.

I'm wondering what you plan to put in it? How does one put anything that isn't flat into a flat purse?

Is it filled with stuff or empty?
it will look smaller if you fill it up, plus I don't think it is as rigid as in the photo. I am 50/50 on it.

Well it makes you look tiny, so if you like that then sure! But it is a little ginormous for you proportions in my opinion. They need a scaled down clutch for you

It wouldn't have occurred to me that your clutch is too big if you hadn't mentioned it - I think I like bigger clutches for daytime. I finally found one to play with and it is bigger than yours. But not as gorgeous. So I say YAY!

I love that clutch, so I'm inclined to say yes, keep it! But it does seem a little big. I wonder if you were wearing something like your outfit from yesterday with the black jacket and purple top, would this "fit" more? Maybe the casual outfit is making the size more obvious.

If you decide not to keep it, I would seriously consider buying it from you.

I think your instincts are right and it does look too large, at least as pictured. I'm pretty hung up on proportions with bags, and I like the look of a bigger bag, but that one reads a little too big for you to my eye. It's gorgeous, though.

I have the opposite problem - lots of bags are too small for me and make me look like a giant, ready to squash the tiny village :).

Personally I don't mind an oversized clutch and I don't find the proportions off at all. Will it hold everything you need? I always test my clutch purses by shoving what I want to carry in it, doing it up and walking around a bit with it to make sure it's comfy and practical.

Una, please forgive my insistence, but I feel like I ruined it for you here. I am gigantic, so I dwarf everything. This clutch is oversized, it's supposed to look big. Also, I bet you either have it empty or filled with the packaging paper, this is why it looks so square. The clothes you are wearing also play a role. Post this clutch next to a black ensemble or your Theory jacket and you'll see.

I have to admit it is hard to judge with the pattern shirt behind it. Distracting. It is large, but I don't know if it's *too* large. Helpful, huh?

It would be easier to tell w/the outfit(s) you'll be using it with, but it looks a little overwhelming right now...but Im generally not much of a fan on oversized clutches, so that probably skews my thinking

A couple things to consider:
1) Your arm is bent rather than straight as Angie's is in her pic, making your arm appear shorter and the clutch closer to your face/larger.
2) The colors in your outfit are so close to the shade and print of the clutch that they may make it look like it is larger - taking over your body.

If you love it and want to know for sure before giving up, I'd dress in something you love that you'd love to see work with the clutch and hold the clutch loosely with a straight arm as Angie does.

ETA: Not assuming you want to duplicate Angie's look, just troubleshooting why (as Zap pointed out) the proportion in Angie's outfit looks 'on' while yours seems like it feels a little 'off' yet the actual proportions are probably pretty similar.

I'm taking another look at this, and I really am thinking now that if you were to put this with an outfit you'd actually wear with it (as Zap and I mentioned earlier), it would work. I think it's "sticking out" in many of our eyes in this photo because it is at odds with what you're wearing.

And I say this despite the fact that I'd love to take it off your hands!

Wow, Angie's post is an eye-opener. I'm going to get dressed and put some stuff in it and repost a "real" picture, but right now I'm leaning toward returning. Angie's clutch looks fab for her, but I may need to rethink my own day clutch style a bit.

Zap, you are not dwarfing anything - I honestly think it looks PERFECT for you, which is why I'm having trouble here. I only wish I had your height!

Well, you can probably predict what I'll say. This is my pet peeve: finding accessories scaled right for petites.

I nearly bought this one myself (and still might -- it may go on my xmas list). It's perfect size for us shorties. And in the store a few weeks ago I think they had it in a similar green snake skin print....

Incidentally the litmus test for me is how well does it fit under your arm? Because I often carry my clutches that way. If you put it under your arm, I fear that it's going to be too high from armpit to crook of elbow.... though I could be wrong. If it fits there (and try it with your coat and layers on!), then you are good to go....

It is too large but it works because it's squishy. I fear if you do that with a structured clutch it would be uncomfortable and awkward to carry like that. And trust me, you WILL want to carry it like that (pinned under your upper arm, rather than held in your hand) from time to time... like whenever you need both hands free.

ETA: I just went and measured the distance from my armpit to my elbow; it's around 7.5 inches. Then I measured my new BR leopard day clutch.. it's 8 inches. It fits nicely and comfortably under my armpit but then again it's squishy.

I looked up the Harlow dimensions (and found the green snakeskin! http://www.bonanza.com/listing.....4AodRjoAhA). It is also 8 inches high.

Then again, maybe I've got it all wrong and you're supposed to carry it like in that first link, held against your chest like a pillow! I just think a clutch that size would drive me, personally, NUTS.
