K/R Winter boots- Update 2

The hardest items for me to find are winter boots. I’m not talking about nice Chelsea boots or something with a heel, I mean boots for the coldest months of our Canadian winter. Practical, comfortable, warm, in the colors that I wear, oh so many conditions. By the time they are met, I’m exhausted and forget about a design.
I have three pairs of winter boots. All of them are black.
One of my goals for this year is to add light color boots. Not an easy task, considering that I can’t wear so popular chunky boots.
Here are my picks.
#1 to 4 & 9. Fleece converse high tops. Fun shoes, really like them. They are not for a snowy weather, though. But fun Inclined to keep unless you would suggest otherwise.
#5 to 8. Suede faux fur lined taupe boots. Work well with my lighter coats, I think but are they too… ordinary? I like the color so much and afraid I’m overlooking the design. Also, they are cheap, so there is something else to cloud my judgment
What do you think? I would appreciate any advice and suggestions.

I love the Chucks. I just ordered the ones Angie posted about, so I'm biased.

As for the boots, if they are comfortable and will serve you well for winter (warm, traction if you need it, etc), I don't think they look too ordinary. The somewhat contrasting laces add some interest. Sometimes cheap items are winners!

Hmm, I actually like the boots, it looks like they will work well with your wardrobe. You can always change the laces if you get bored.

The Converse seem like an easy way to add some light heartedness and humor and you look completely at ease in them, like you're really enjoying them.

As to the others, they merge almost a little too seamlessly with the rest of your outfit and the effect is a little bland.

I would not buy something that I would describe in such an unenthusiastic way, no matter how practical, and for true full on cold and snow it's unlikely these would do the job.

I actually really like both! And find myself curious about what the boots are! I like the contrasting laces and you've styled the outfits so they stand out.

The Cons are fun (but the light color and texture would not be very practical for me, maybe you have Angie’s clean-white superpower!). I actually love the second pair and don’t find them boring at all. The lug soles and contrasting laces make them look current, and the color is light without being stark.

Both look really nice - the Converse high tops are perfect as modern fun winter option and the taupe boots has enough details and great color.

I love the Chucks! I can't help but wonder if they will get destroyed in black slushy weather, but they sure look cool with your outfits and you wear them well (love the hem interplay).

If you're Canadian, you definitely need something lined with real shearling, if you don't mind real fur. The difference is off the charts. Blackstone does great ones, Uggs of course, and even they do a few styles each year that aren't the classic slipper-boot.

Lesley, I don’t intend to wear cream Cons in slushy weather, I have black leather Cons for that
I would love to get boots lined with real shearling but haven’t been able to find in the color and style I want. Nothing from Uggs but I haven’t heard about Blackstone. I will check.
TBH, I searched so many with requirements: beige, cream or taupe, comfortable on my fussy feet, warm, none slip, not too chunky…
This is my last attempt, K/R and I’m done for this year.

I like the second boots, and I love a good Winners find. Speaking only for myself, there's a point when the time and energy invested into finding "perfect" can just get to be too much. My "perfect" might not exist at all, or might come at too high a price. A different approach might work better for you, but I have no problem with saying yes to something that ticks my most impiortant boxes -- does it fit? do I like the price? Is it the right colour/style to work with what I wear?

It sounds like you like these boots. I think even if they are "ordinary" (whatever that means, and I would not classify them that way at all!!), the overall effect with your outfit is not based on the boot alone, IYKWIM. They work. And that is, in my view, what matters.

If it was me, I would probably keep them.

The Chucks are great, too, BTW - I just felt I had more to say about the grey boots!

I really can't see how you can get just one of these. They both go so beautifully with the outfits you've posted, and I don't think either would go nearly as well with the other's outfits. So I vote BOTH!

I’m deciding between a bunch of white boots with black trim this weekend. We could be twinsies. The thing is, though, that the Chucks are a different direction than your wardrobe usually goes.

I hear you! I put a pair of half Superfeet in my Blackstones for that reason—the half is better so your toes can really relish in the squishy furry feeling...

Personally I am not a Converse fan and have never owned any. As far as they go, your black and white ones are more interesting than lots out there.
I actually really like the Winners ones on you especially with the matching/toning coats and bags, so I vote keep.

There are also these sherpa lined Converse hi-tops, btw. Light grey and leather. Might be better! That outside sherpa is a mare to clean. Leather is MUCH easier, and can be sprayed with protectant.

Stag, you right, I was initially looking for more classic creams boots like Angie’s from JCrew. But I have to be honest with myself - it is important to me to keep shoes as pristine as possible. Unfortunately, I’m a clumsy walker I scratch toes on all my shoes almost immediately. Cons have a rubber toe cap, so they will last. Maybe this will be my only play with cream/white boots before I retreat to the safety of black.

Angie, thanks! These Cons are not available on the Converse Canada site and I didn’t check Nordstrom. Ordered! On the site they look cream , I hope they are. I will wait to decide which ones to keep.

We will have to compare notes about how our white footwear stays clean. The toecaps on my son’s chucks are by no means as white as when they were new—but no one expends any energy in that direction on his shoes. I’m hoping to wipe down my white boots every time I take them off. I still haven’t decided on a pair; the sam Edelman and Sorels are leather; the Esprit and Dr Scholls different kinds of fake leather.

A big YES from me for the boots. They work with your palette and you’ve styled them perfectly. Let’s see if you can wrangle a pair of the grey/cream Converse that Angie suggested - I feel that colour would work even better than the white.

Angie, you are making me nervous! Nordstrom site lists color as Egret, same as my sherpa Cons. I have to wait and see.
Stag, it's not cleaning that is an issue for me. The way I walk, I damage the leather on toes and it cannot be removed, only covered with shoe polish.

I love both but agree that the Converse could be difficult to keep clean. They sure look fab as you have them styled! I also really like the second pair. Not boring at all and nothing wrong with inexpensive. They look great with your coats too.

I love the taupe boots! The brand is made in Portugal and a new pair similar to yours is selling on Poshmark for $145. So not cheap.

I love the suede boots - and don’t think they look ordinary at all ! The Converse are interesting and unique but how does one keep that fleecey upper clean ? I can’t see them working outdoors here , that’s for sure . They’d be dirty in no time . I need pristine footwear too , which is why mine are all back as well , which is terribly boring but I have a limit to how much searching I’ll do ….

Irina, if you're having difficulty checking all of your tickboxes, have you considered going the other way by adding warm boot liners & comfy insoles to a roomy enough pair of boots instead? I see Etsy sellers from particularly cold climates (i.e. Russia) selling fur, felt & wool boot socks - could that work?

FWIW though, I think both pairs of boots here look great on you - I think the lighter shades go well with your colouring (they don't 'disappear' on you in the way that they would on me, for example, lol).

(PS - I completely feel you re: walking gait - It's *just* become cold enough here to start wearing my new Blondo waterproof laceup booties & the toes are already scuffed! Lol oops The 'lug' sole is refined though (not chunky) so might be worth looking at them if you want more 'sleek' but still grippy boots?)

I think both pairs of boots look great, although I’d be concerned about keeping the first pair clean.

On the second pair, I like the lace arrangement and the colour. But honestly, I think if you have doubts about them you should skip them. You have a really strong sense of your own style and I think you should trust your instincts. If you don’t really like them, it doesn’t matter that everyone else does.
