K/r The Billie Crop, some flares, and a pair of old block heel ballerinas

I ordered the JCrew Billie crop in two colors. It will become quickly evident when you look at the pictures that even with ankle strap sandals, crops shorten my proportionally short legs significantly. These are the 5th pair I have tried and the only pair I am willing to post. What do you think? Should they be shorter? Should I keep trying? These are unaltered tall size.

The flares are also talls. I am wearing them with maybe a 1.5 to 2 inch wedge sandal. Is the flare too wide for me? Should I keep looking? These are also unaltered talls from JCrew.

The tops are all old and part of my existing wardrobe.

I wondered if my taupe Beautifeel heels can pass for block heel ballerinas? Are they current enough or dated? They're super comfy and have been hanging out in my reserve area with the hope that I could pull them out and wear them again. What do you think?

I think the crops look fab on you. I don't think they shorten your legs. The flares are great too and your shoes are back in style, good for you that you saved them.
Of course you have to see if you feel comfortable in those jeans but as far as how they look they are fab.

I like the Billie crops on you, Staysfit! Angie was right when she said our eyes might need to adjust to these on ourselves -- I'm loving everyone's pictures but hating this look on myself ;). I like yours best with the "close the gap" gladiators in pic 1, and love the balance with the white top, which looks great on you. I also think these crops will look fab with ankle-strap footwear.

I'm hopeless at flares because they still give me visions of 1973, but I think the length in pic 3 is perfect.

And I totally think the shoes in pic 7 look current.

I agree with Joyce - I don't see a leg-shortening effect at all, and think the crops look fine the way they are. Maybe you're just not comfortable with the look, period? The flares are perfect too . The shoes could indeed pass for a block heeled ballerina - I can't quite make out the heel detail, but they don't look too dated.....just conservative

What are you talking about? You look fabulous in the crops and in jeans.
I like the #1 version best for footwear. If the shoes are comfortable, keep them for longer pants. The sandals in #1 look much better with the crops.

Working backwards....yes, I think those shoes absolutely can pass/ work as block heeled ballet shoes....and love the faded crops, they look fab, and work really well with the block heel shoes. The flares are nice, definitely not to wide. I like the 1st pair of crops,but for some reason prefer the faded pair.....not sure why, but it may be because I prefer the ballet shoe over the sandal with the crops, but that's a personal thing. As for leg shortening.....don't see it in any of these shots!

I'll answer this as one proportionately short-legged person to another.

In fact I just wrote a post about how I prefer rolls/cuffs vs crops on myself....

-- In general, I do find flares a little leg-shortening as wider = stronger horizontal line = shortening. It's just how it goes.

I think the flares are fine (or will be with a tiny hem so they skim the floor) -- just purchased some myself. Straight leg or baby bootcuts are the best for me but I wanted variety. If you DON'T have bootcuts you could compare/contrast and see what you think.

-- In #1 that higher-contrast of the denim to the bright white sandal is not generating love. I'd prefer them with the other pair in the faded wash.

The color of the heels works well with the faded wash to keep the eye moving and would do the same with the dark wash.

Great jeans, both, but would love the crops with a black, or tan strapped shoes better for a more grounding and/or leg lengthening effect. The balerinas find them back in style, and both tops are beautiful! YLF Staysfit!:-))

The crops look great with the white sandals and the flares look really good too. I don't see a lot of leg shortening with either.

ACK!! I want those white sandals!! Which ones are they? Maybe I will just bite the bullet and order from the US after all. So perfect.

Second, you look fantastic in the crops. If you feel your leg line is shortened (which I don't) simply opt for lower contrast top or footwear.

Third, the flares are gorgeous on you. You were made to wear jeans so do so with pride!!

Fourth, those ballerinas are retro-fabulous!! Wear and enjoy!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm not sure why I think these pants make my legs look short when no one else seems to see this, although Vix has a great explanation. I really don't like the look of the flares unless I am wearing heels. I think the wider line is shortening, at least to my eye. As tall as I am, I once figured out that my legs are actually 4" shorter than they should be given the length of my torso. I like to wear a small heel because too high and they are uncomfortable. The highest I can mange is 3 inches and that's pushing things. I love a platform heel because that gives me some extra height. So, these will definitely take some eye adjustment, but I plan to keep them.

The Billie crops also come in white. Maybe I should get a pair. They are very comfy. I have a feeling I will wear them frequently because I don't really wear shorts to work. It's either dresses or light jeans.

I love the white sandals you chose. What would the color black look like? would it be more versatile? I am considering ordering that shoe. I love the crop look on you--definitely does not shorten your leg. And that top in #6 is speaking to me! I am getting used to flares myself--have one pair. I like them with a little heel height and I would wear them with those sandals in #1, a little pizaaz is one way to embrace wider legged jeans.
